Work Text:
The afternoon was unusually quiet. There hadn’t been any fighting, or any reports of new Serpentine activity. Sunlight barely filtered down through the trees, making patterns on the forest floor. The only sounds were birdsong, and to the displeasure of the birds, the sound of two young men walking well away from any path, rustling the underbrush and snapping fallen twigs as though they hadn’t a care in the world.
Acronix pulled his brother through the forest by the hand, laughing as he went. They so rarely had time to themselves anymore now that the war was in full swing, and every moment they could sneak away was precious.
“Acronix, where are we even going?” Krux asked breathlessly.
“Away. Anywhere I can be with you for a while. This is probably far enough.” Acronix replied, planting his back firmly against the nearest tree and pulling his brother toward him. In a slight miscalculation their helmets clanged together, and subsequently were tossed to the ground.
“You’re in too much of a hurry brother,” Krux complained, ears still ringing from the sound.
“You aren’t in enough of one, we have to be back too soon already,” Acronix replied, sliding a hand up Krux’s back and coming to rest at the nape of his neck. “There’s never enough time.”
“I can’t stop time for the whole world. I would if I could, just for you.” Krux whispered.
“Really brother? Flirting?”
“Hush, I’ll flirt if I want to, I don’t get the opportunity very often anymore.”
“Well, it was a very sweet sentiment, but I’ll settle for you getting a move on.” Acronix said, his expression stretching into a familiar grin.
“Alright, alright, I’ll hurry.” Krux huffed and closed the remaining distance between them. Acronix’s lips were chapped and rough under his, a reminder of the physical condition the constant travel and fighting had left them in, but he could feel the tension leaving his brother’s body as he relaxed into the kiss. The hand on his neck drifted higher to tangle in his hair, occasionally giving a playful tug to match the way Acronix would nip at his lower lip.
This is what Acronix needed. His brother’s mouth on his, and to hell with the war. He sighed at the sensation of Krux’s tongue sliding past his lips and gasped when it touched his own. It really had been too long and his body was responding embarrassingly quickly.
Krux happily took advantage of the opening Acronix’s momentary shock gave him, tilting his head and deepening the kiss, licking more insistently into his mouth and drawing out a groan. The hand in his hair seemed to have forgotten what it was doing while the rest of Acronix’s body sought out every point of contact.
Krux broke away from the kiss just long enough to wipe away some spit that had tried to escape the corner of his mouth before returning to the task at hand. He had every intention of kissing his brother senseless, although it wouldn’t be far beyond belief to think that he was the one that had taken leave of his senses. Acronix’s mouth was so hot and wet, and his body was pressed against him so appealingly, he was struggling to form any coherent thoughts beyond the intense desire to be as close to his brother as physically possible.
Acronix had reached down to stroke him through his pants as he peppered kisses along his jawline when they heard a voice echoing through the trees. Krux swore. “Do you think if we’re really quiet and still they’ll go away?”
Acronix let his head thud against the tree trunk, “No. No I don’t think they will.” he said sadly. “We’ll have to head back.”
The two separated with great reluctance, and each not entirely unseriously considered committing the murder of whichever elemental master had chosen to come looking for them as they began the hike back to the current Elemental Alliance base camp.
“Maybe if you think you can be quiet, we’ll do it again after everyone is sleeping,” Krux murmured to his brother before they were within earshot of the person who had so rudely interrupted them.
“Can’t make that much noise with your tongue in my mouth.”
“Yes you can,” Krux replied with a smile and a friendly shove.
“Hey!” Acronix objected with a laugh, and walked side by side with his brother, rudely ignoring the man who had been sent to fetch them. At least they’d had time for a kiss.
