Work Text:
“You still aren’t dressed? You’re gonna make us late, this is both of our celebration viktor” ,jayce sighed in frustration as he walked in on viktor, working, not in the clothes he had found for him. “So…?” ,he mumbled in response almost completely ignoring the man.
“So… since it’s OUR celebration, that means we both should be there” ,jayce argued, grabbing the outfit and heading over to the desk viktor had placed himself at. “I could have never made this breakthrough without you. You deserve just as much of the recognition as I do” ,he reasoned, softer this time, grabbing his partner’s attention.
He grinned before tossing the outfit on his desk and shrugging, “and if that doesn’t convince, I’m sure a certain woman will be rather disappointed that she’s gotten all dressed up to congratulate you and you aren’t there” ,he added, glancing back to see the shock taking over his partner’s face.
“Y/n? She hates these things more than me, why would she ever do something like that” ,he questioned, looking up at him for answers.
“Is it so hard to believe that people actually enjoy being around you” ,jayce countered, spinning around to face him and crossing his arms over his chest. Viktor only responded with a deadpan stare before responded with a blunt, “yes”.
“Well SHE definitely enjoys being around you, everyone can see it, even heimerdinger” ,jayce argued with a grin, watching his friends pale face grow red and his brows furrow as he looked away. “How about this, stay for thirty minutes? If she doesn’t show then you can leave and I’ll buy lunch for the next week, whatever you want” ,he offered, a raise of his brow and a smile trying to coax the man before him to agree. It wasn’t very tempting, but some small part of viktor wanted to see her. Okay maybe a large part of him. So reluctantly, he agreed, draping the outfit over his arm before grabbing his cane to stand up. “Great, I’ll help when you finish changing” ,his friend exclaimed excitedly, pushing him into the closet on the other side of the room. Before he could fully turn around the door shut in his face and he couldn’t help but start to regret his decision.
~~~
Of course it was a lie, why wouldn’t it be? Why in the world would she ever go out of her comfort zone for him?
Thirty minutes and nothing, and he wasn’t about to look like an idiot and wander around looking like some lost puppy. He knew it was a mistake, and man does he hate gel.
He pushed himself off the couch, grabbing his cane and heading for the large double doors.
“Oh my- hey stranger” ,a familiar voice called, could it…? He slowly turned around, and sure enough, the very reason he was here was walking towards him, with a grinning jayce following behind.
She was stunning. Well, she was always stunning, but the dress she was wearing….. wow. A beautiful, flowing cream color dress, with long sheer sleeves. Gold buttons danced up the side of the top part of her dress. Similar rings adorning her right hand while her mechanical left stayed the same metallic color it’s always been. Gold freckled along her cheeks, that drew up when she smiled. As for her hair, a simple, golden butterfly hair clip and the left side of her hair.
“She had the same idea as you, ‘sit in a corner and try to find you’. At least that’s what it looked like when I found her” ,jayce laughed, handing the man a glass of what was most certainly alcohol. She rushed up to him and wrapped her arms around him and a tight hug, giggling to herself when she felt him jerk in surprise. “I knew you could do it, I’m so happy for you” ,she sighed as she pulled away to look up at him.
“U-um, thank you. That’s uh… very kind” ,he managed to stutter out, glancing back at jayce for help. But when he only grinned in response, he knew he wasn’t going to receive any help. “Welp, I’ll leave you two to go be weirdo’s in the corner somewhere. Have fun” ,jayce announced, waving to the two.
Once jayce was out of sight, she spun around and took his hand in her own, surprising him yet again. “Let’s go” ,she whispered, almost mouthing the words over the loud conversations.
She led him out, letting the doors shut behind them.
She took a deep breath, sighing in relief and he could see the tension he didn't realize was there before, leave her body. "Too loud..." ,She mumbled, letting her eyes fall shut.
"You know...." ,He started, glancing over to catch her eyes opening to give him her full attention. It was overwhelming for a moment, not usually used to people giving him their full attention. "You um... You didn't have to come, you know. I know how you hate these things" ,he reasoned with a shrug as she eventually let go of his hand. "Hush, this is a big thing for you, I was not about to miss it" ,she argued, crossing her arms over her chest. "But it must be uncomfortable for you? I'd hate for you to be uncomfortable for my sake" ,he shot back, glancing over at her with an ashamed look. She huffed to herself and shook her head, "it's only uncomfortable if you aren't there". He was grateful that the halls weren't lit up beside the moonlight, otherwise she would've most certainly seen his cheeks grow red. Before he could ask her anything, she stopped and motioned for him to stop as well. She walked up to the door in front of her, peaking her head in before turning back to him and waving him over with a smile.
~~~
The room was surprisingly darker than the halls, but it was probably because of the curtains covering the large floor to ceiling windows.
She opened up the curtains though, letting the moonlight stream in.
"I meant to mention. I didn't know if you could tell, but Mel helped me with my outfit, cause no way in hell I was able to afford this" ,she mentioned as she pulled the last curtain.
"Oh- yes! I meant to mention it, actually. You look stunning" ,he jumped to say, motioning to her dress.
She giggled, literally giggled before motioning to his suit he was forced into, "and you just look good in red in general?”.
“Ah, um, this is…jayces doing” ,he muttered, pulling at his tie.
She hummed with a grin, “well I can bet you Mel helped him. But still, it’s a good look”.
In response, he only hummed before the two grew silent.
“Care to dance” ,she spoke up with a dramatic voice, holding out her hand as she bowed her head. He scoffed and shook his head in amusement at her antics. He looked down at his cane before looking back to her and raising a brow.
“Hey, you’re crippled and I can’t dance to save my life. Just because we can’t do anything dramatic like you see out there, doesn’t mean we can’t have the pleasure of our own little dances” ,she argued, standing straight to put her hands on her hips.
He rolled his eyes, but reached his hand out regardless, taking her hand almost reluctantly. “In my opinion, if we’re happy doing something, who cares if it’s consider wrong by everyone else” ,she reasoned, stepping closer and placing her hand on his side. If she noticed him flinch a bit, she didn’t show it, instead she started to sway side-to-side.
She slowly moved to her left, giving him room to turn with her, and at this she laughed quietly. “This is silly” ,he sighed, rolling his eyes.
She let go of his side and held up the hand that was in her other with a grin. “Come on, spin” ,she said with a smile. “What?! No, I’m not going to- spin, this is silly” ,he laughed with a shake of his head. “No, come on please, spin? Please” ,she insisted bouncing a little in anticipation.
He rolled his eyes but reluctantly did it anyway. “Why do I have to do all thes-” ,he started to ask but was cut of when he suddenly felt her place her hand on his lower back, and suddenly, he was falling.
He felt the rush of wind, his cane clatter to the ground and he could only gasp as he was ready to hit the ground.
But it never came.
"Hey, I got you, see" ,she assured with a quiet laugh. He felt one hand on his back and the other on his bad leg. He opened his eyes and was greeted to, the most beautiful sight he had ever seen.
He had seen many beautiful things in his life. He'd never imagined spring could be so beautiful before he got to piltover, but it was the most vibrant season of all. When he helped Jayce break into heimerdingers office to help him fullfil his hextech dream, that was beautiful. Hell, even the stream by his house when he was little, although polluted, it's shimmers of rainbow were deceivingly beautiful against the waters true color.
But this, her face so close to his, her little smile, the way the moon light shone on her round face, her glasses glinting from the moon light. This was perfect, she was beautiful.
"Isn't it.... Supposed to be me, who does this" ,he finally spoke, taking in the situation.
She shrugged, still keeping her smile and that firm grip around him. "I don't like following societies standards I guess....and I liked seeing you all surprised" ,she joked, helping him stand again.
She kept her firm hand on him as she knelt down and grabbed his cane, handing it to him with a smile. Still so impossibly close, he could feel her breath fan his face again.
Whatever this was, she could feel it too. She looked how he felt in that moment. He felt his face heat up while her cheeks grew redder then they already were, and he couldn't help but move a little closer.
"Can I um...." ,He started, barely above a whisper, and he could hear her breath hitch. He looked up from her lips to her eyes, searching for anything at all to tell him if this was a good idea. Eventually he gave in, he couldn't take this anymore, he'd risk it, "can I kiss you".
~~~
It was what she had wanted to hear for so long, she actually thought she misheard him for a second. She had never fallen in love, till him her love life was non-existent, not even a crush or getting asked out.
But then she met him by unlikely circumstances, he was kind to her, and he actually made her a new arm, one that worked and didn't hinder her while she worked. His sarcasm made her laugh, and his passion made her smile.
The little things he would do was why she fell for him, at least she thinks so, when she looks back on it. The way he remembered her favorite foods oh so casually. The way he'd try to give his undivided attention. Nothing, beside his projects on rare occasions, could interrupt her while she was talking, it could wait, and it made her want to cry at times.
He had memorized what her steps sounded like, and although he sometimes used it for evil to try and spook her, he also used it as a sign to step away from his work for a bit. Or when he would surprise her with some new paints, the good kind too. Or maybe the time he bought her a new easel because he notice her old one was being propped up on books.
These little things are what made her little, touch-starved heart soar....
But yet....
"Are you.... Are you sure" ,she couldn't help herself from asking. She refused to look at him, but also refused to pull away, the closeness was all she wanted right now. But when he didn't say anything, she went to look up at him before she gasped as she felt his lips softly press against her's.
It was as if everything suddenly clicked for her, an explosion of colors in her mind. It was more than anything she could have ever dreamed up.
Nothing beats the real thing, she figured.
When he pulled away too soon, she dropped his cane and cupped his cheeks in her hands before bringing him back into the kiss.
Every thought melted from her mind, and the only thing left in it's place was the overwhelming happiness she felt. She inhaled sharply when he returned the kiss once again, one hand wrapping around her lower back as the other went to cup her on cheek.
He only pulled away however, when he felt something wet hit his hand that was cupping her cheek.
He rested his forehead against her's as they took deep breaths to calm themselves. "Love why are you crying? I'm sorry did I overstep" ,he asked worriedly as he wiped away her tears.
A watery smile overcame her features, letting out a choked laugh as she shook her head and wiped her own tears. "N-no, I'm just- I'm just happy" ,she answered, looking up at him finally.
"I-I was um... Nervous. A little scared that the first person I fell in love with, you know, wouldn't like me back" ,she laughed, looking away shyly.
"Are you joking" ,she heard him ask, and she couldn't help but laugh as she wiped away her stray tears.
"I thought you were out of my league, if I am being honest" ,he admitted too, making her look up in shock.
It wasn't like she was wealthy, or famous. She didn't feel pretty, and she had fewer friends then he did. How was she out of his league.
They stared at eachother and blinked before they bursted out laughing. Circles, they were going in circles.
She leaned up and kissed him again, already growing addicted to the action. "This feels a bit cliché, no? Slow dancing in an empty, moonlit ballroom before confessing their feelings and kissing for the first time" ,he joked in a whisper, leaning his forehead against her once again.
She hummed a laugh and nodded, "I'm secretly a hopeless romantic. I'm into all that cliche shit".
~~~
They continued to slow dance, her humming some tune as they both just basked in each other's presence as a new couple, never noticing the two figures that had watched the whole confession.
Though they missed the whispered 'I love you'd they shared with eachother, anyone could easily see that they did indeed.
"Ah young love, such a refreshing sight" , heimerdinger sighed almost proudly, happy to see his former assistant finally growing.
"I knew it, I was starting to worry that I was wrong" ,Jayce added and pumped his fist in victory.
"Oh come now dear boy, they are clearly soulmates" ,heimerdinger laughed as the two of them headed back to the party.
