“Laney! Come down to breakfast!” A voice called out echoing through the hall way until it reached the young girl with messy chestnut hair under her bed covers.
With a tired moan the young girl lifted her head instantly hitting the ray of light peaking through her window.
“Laney! Come on! I don’t want you late for school!” The voice called again.
“Coming!” She called out finally tossing the blanket off of her.
As Laney leaves her room she is instantly bombarded by a smaller body with messy red hair.
“Argh! Addy!” Laney hisses turning to her little sister who was quickly picking up her skateboard that was covered in stickers.
“You know mum told you to stop skateboarding inside” Laney groaned.
“I was just practicing” Addy said with a little pout.
“For what your 6?” Laney hit back only causing Addy to poke her tongue out in response.
“Girls wha’ya doin?” A deep voice asked causing both girls to quickly spin around with large eyes.
There father looked at them with a warm smile despite his tone, his tired blue eyes scanned the girls before falling onto the skateboard.
“Addy? You skatin’ again?”
“Sorry dad”
“Come on baby you know not in the hall”
“I’m sorry” Addy says with a soft voice, her eyes blue eyes growing bigger as she pouted her lip at her dad. It didn’t take long for Fez to break into a smile taking Addy into his arms.
“How m’I supposed to stay mad at that face for real?” He says making Addy giggle.
Laney rolls her eyes but couldn’t fight the smile as the three walk into the kitchen where a woman was flipping bacon in a pan.
“Morning mum” Laney said taking a seat in front of an already prepared bowl.
“Morning sweety and good morning to you too” Lexi says with a sweet tone as she reaches out and kisses Fezco tenderly.
This wasn’t new for Laney’s parents, they were always to lovey dovey no matter what time of day it was.
“Mum I need cupcakes” Addy states suddenly catching both parents off guard.
“Why do you need cupcakes?”
“My class is having a party I need to bring food” she says. Both Lexi and Fezco let out a tired breath.
“Don’t you think this would have been something to tell mummy before the class party?” Lexi says with a steady tone despite her already exhausted eyes.
Addy merely shrugs causing the woman to let out a defeated sigh.
“They have to be cupcakes?”
“Yes!” Addy cheers.
“Is all good, imma pick up some cupcakes before I drop them off okay?” Fezco says placing Addy in one of the chairs before the woman hugs him tightly with a large smile.
“Fez you’re a life saver”
“It’s what I do baby” Fezco smirks placing another tender kiss on his wife as the two hold each other close.
“Eww” Addy giggles causing their parents to part way as Fezco reaches out for his youngest.
“What you ewwing about ha? Imma smooch yo mama if I want to” Fez grumbles placing little pecks all over Addy’s rosy cheeks as she squeals with giggles.
“How about you Laney? Any surprise cupcakes we should be aware of?” Lexi asks placing the now cooked bacon on a plate in the middle of the table.
“Nope, just a family tree project that I’ve basically finished”
“That’s my smart girl” Fez adds, his mouth now filled with bacon while Addy copies.
“Need any help on anything?”
“I’ve only got a few more questions to finish, like how my parents met?”
“Well you know that one already” Lexi says, her eyes already on Fez as the two smiled at each other.
Laney definitely knew this story, if not from her parents then from all her aunts and uncles; New Years Eve the two sat together at a party and talked for hours, the rest of history.
Laney would remember hearing the parents talk about what they were feeling when they met, her mum was warm and fuzzy while her dad could take his eyes off her, it was like straight out of a romcom her and her mother would occasionally watch.
“What are the other questions?”
“Oh just small ones like, if we’re related to anyone famous or what’s the coolest job your family has done?” As Laney spoke she noticed a brief look between her mum and dad, very quick but they always said Laney was observant.
“I don’ know, yo mama working on broadway seems pretty cool” Fez adds.
“I don’t think it counts if I was an unpaid intern?”
“Still pretty cool” Fez says with a smile which caused Lexi to slightly blush. Married with kids and Fezco still had the power to make Lexi blush.
“I guess I could say that, unless there’s anything else?” Laney asks looking between her parents. Both merely shrugged in response not giving each other any look.
Maybe it was in her head.
“Alright come on eat up, gotta get ready so you dad can by cupcakes before school”
“Yay cupcakes!” Addy cheered, mouth now filled with oatmeal.
The family smiled at her while Fez wiped her face with a napkin.
