//Lately, I've been slippin' away from you
Can you tell me, does it hurt today?
there's no way
To burn, there's no flames//
The day Mikey disbanded Toman, he rode on the back of Draken’s Zephyr to Shibuya. He had already made up his mind to leave everything behind but for tonight, he wants to forget about the world and just be with the one person he can't seem to let go of.
They went up to Draken’s room in silence. It was dark and neither of them bothered to turn on the light. They took off their uniforms and climbed into Draken’s bed together. It was a slow day for the brothel, lacking the usual moans and groans. In the dark, Draken held on to Mikey tightly as if he will slip through his fingers like sand.
Mikey never explicitly told Draken his plans but his actions have told him enough. From the way he talked less and often stared into nothingness, to the way his smiles stopped reaching his eyes. At first Draken thought it was just about losing toman, but one day he went to pick up Mikey for a meeting and accidentally stumbled upon the packed boxes in his room.
“Where are you going?” Draken asked confused
His voice startled Mikey who was sitting in the corner of his room with his back towards the door.
Mikey turns and Draken noticed that he was holding a photo of the two of them taken that day on the beach, the sun just peeking through the horizon.
“Nowhere” That damned smile again.
“Just tidying up my room”
Mikey never cleaned.
“Ok well meeting’s starting soon. Did you forget?” Draken decided not to think too much into it.
“No way, I never forget.”
//Praying nine to five like a saint for you
Can you tell me how it turned this way?//
In his small twin bed, Draken’s heart ached with the thought of what Mikey was planning to do.
“You know I still want to follow you right? I will follow you anywhere, Mikey”
Like an animal in a slaughterhouse that knows its fate, Draken pleaded in a whisper.
Mikey was curled in Draken’s arms, his face in his chest.
There was a long pause and Draken thought Mikey was never going to answer. The silence was eating him alive and he was desperate for a response. That’s why when Mikey lifted his head slightly and gently pressed his lips to Draken's, he drank him up like a man dying of thirst seeing a river, diving in headfirst.
One hand holding Mikey’s face, he leaned into the kiss with such desperation he forgot how to breathe.
After sheets were pushed to the side and the rest of their clothes removed, Draken found himself on top of and inside Mikey. He was so desperate to feel more of him, as if Mikey will evaporate into thin air as soon as he stopped touching him.
Like a suicidal man atop a building, Draken longs for the sweet release but at the same time desperately hangs on for as long as he can, because he knew there will be nothing left after the end. His push-and-pulls erratic and urgent.
For the entirety of their contact, Mickey’s hazy eyes did not move away from Draken’s face, as if he was trying to memorize every single detail. His moans soft and his gasps frantic, almost like a sob. For someone as vocal as Mikey, Draken’s name did not leave his lips once that night.
While Mikey’s dark orbs never left Drakens face, Draken could not dare to look back into the void. He felt the burn of his gaze on him and knew that if he looked, just one peek, he would die from the flames.
When Mikey came, Draken swallowed his moans and whispered sweet nothings into his mouth.
When Draken came, he returned the moans and poured his heart out to Mikey.
Afterward, Draken cleaned both of them up, purposely doing not as diligent a job as he used to, wanting to leave as much of himself with Mikey as he can.
When he finally laid down and sleep overtook his body and mind, Draken tightened his hold on Mikey and kissed the top of his head.
“Please don’t forget about me”
Mikey left before dawn.
When Draken woke up, the first thing he noticed was the lingering smell of vanilla on his pillow.
The second thing he noticed was Mikey’s babu parked out front, the key left in the ignition, like an orphan who had just been dropped off.
The third thing he noticed was that one of his cardigans was missing, and so was his heart.
//Things have changed
Filled with rage
So lost in these diamonds
So lost in this paradise
Don't speed on that highway
We need you to shine bright//
Mikey moved into the penthouse on top of Shibuya that's being used as the KMG headquarter. It had to be the most extravagant place he has ever seen. From the shimmering chandelier to the gold-plated furnitures, everything glistened.
But how can a diamond reflect light when it's kept in perpetual darkness.
How can someone enjoy the nicer things in life when there is no life in their eyes.
At first, Mikey felt pain, pain like he had never felt before. Then it morphed into anger, angry at the world and at himself.
Then there was nothing.
That’s when he started to miss the pain and the anger. At least they proved that he was alive.
So he looked elsewhere to feel alive. Thanks to Sanzu’s influence, Mikey started using.
He often found himself in a dream-like daze, unable to distinguish reality from memory.
On a particular night when he was a little more heavy-handed than usual, Mikey stared down at the streets of Shibuya at 3am, his consciousness drifting in and out.
He saw himself on the back of Draken's bike returning from a fight.
“Kenchin you are so slow” He heard himself complain.
“I’m already above the speed limit. What do you want me to do?” Draken glanced back at the source of the complaint.
“The street's basically empty. Just step on it please?” Mikey pouted.
Draken obeyed with a sigh.
Mikey watched himself speed through the streets of Tokyo, holding on to the love of his life, laughing nonstop, hair a mess, alive.
Suddenly he had the urge to feel the wind in his hair.
“Where you going boss?” Sanzu looked up
“Out”
“Don’t follow me”
Mikey grabbed one of the bikes parked in the garage and headed into the night.
When he was sober enough to comprehend what’s around him, Mikey found himself on a familiar street. The street lights still the same shade of yellow.
He walked the bike slowly until he saw the big “D&D motor” sign and stopped.
The night is so quiet all he could hear was his own heartbeat.
The shop was completely dark but Mikey could make out a couple of bikes inside.
His attention was captured by the light emitting from the little apartment above. Inside, shadows were moving.
He stared at the light trying to imagine Draken's face, but for some reason he had a hard time coming up with an image.
Then, he saw the light above the staircase to the garage turn on and a shadow walked down into the garage.
What are they doing at 3am?
That's when he saw him.
The boy whose face he sees every night, the boy he swore to protect, the boy he loved with his entirety.
His next breath shuddered from the agony that blossomed in his chest. No drugs could have prepared him for what he’d feel when he sees Draken after so long.
Draken looked like he lost weight and the shadows under his eyes were darker. His long blonde hair swept to one side, unbraided.
His sweet sweet Kenchin looked as breathtaking as the day he left him.
Mikey stood In the shadows, not moving a single muscle, afraid he will break.
He watched Draken slowly walk to the other side of the garage, wearing the PJs Mikey had gotten him as a joke because they were way too big at the time. Now he had grown into them.
How long has it been?
It feels like a lifetime ago.
Mikey’s gaze followed him and eventually it landed on the bike where Draken stopped.
His bike.
His babu looked pristine and well-kept. No doubt thanks to Draken's diligence.
She stands proud despite her owner’s abandonment.
“She’s in better hands now” Mikey thought, as guilt crawled up his neck.
Draken grabbed a microfibre cloth and began to clean the exterior of the bike. His movements were skillful and without hesitation, almost like a habit.
Mikey watched the way his muscle strained and his hands moved, trying to remember what those hands felt like on his skin.
When Draken finished, he looked at the bike fondly and whispered something before turning off the garage light and going up to the apartment again.
Mikey stood in the dark for a long time.
As if he was in a dream.
He was awakened by the wetness on the back of his hand.
He touched his face and realized he had been crying.
He didn’t know how he got back to the penthouse or if he got back at all. All he could see was the shape of Draken's mouth before the lights turned off.
“Have you forgotten about me?”
//When life gets too complicated
Please stand with me after dark
I'll stay in the limelight
Like a beautiful afterthought//
It was raining when Mikey heard the news. He was surprised by how much it hurt, considering how numb he had become to everything.
The pain felt so raw and so real and he deserved it all.
Everything that happened with the 3 deities, he did not remember. He felt like he was dreaming and when he woke up, South was already dead by his feet. He did not feel remorse.
Koko told everyone in KMG to go back to headquarters as Mikey headed to the hospital in the rain by himself.
He couldn’t help but remember the last time he rode in the rain, rushing to the hospital for Draken.
He was in such a hurry. He had to get there to see him, to hold him, and to tell him how much he meant.
He waited by Draken’s side for days until he woke up.
But this time, he was in no hurry.
Because Draken is not waking up.
When he entered the morgue, he felt a weird sense of familiarity. Maybe it was the chilliness of his blood or the fact that his soul had died along with the boy on the table.
Mikey walked towards Draken’s body. Under the limelight light, he glowed like an angel.
He touched Draken's face, so gently as if it would wake him up. Then he laid his head on Draken’s chest, imagining the heartbeats that always lulled him to sleep. For some reason, his body felt warm.
Suddenly he remembered the day they met. After he kicked the shit out of Sameyama, he asked Draken to be his friend.
How he blushed so cutely, Mikey will never forget.
“I will race you to the playground!” Mikey shouted as he gave himself a head start.
“Hey, that’s not fair!” Shouted Draken chasing after him.
“Loser buys the other one Taiyaki!” Mikey shouted as he sped off into the distance.
“Wait! Slow down! Don’t forget about me!” Draken chased after him.
Mikey bent down and kissed Draken's peaceful face.
"I could never"
Inside the morgue, the limelight was blindingly bright, but outside, the night was dark.
//Like a beautiful afterthought
I don't wanna forget about you
I don't wanna forget about you
I don't wanna forget about you//
