It was two o'clock in the morning, there was no reason that Liz should've been awake, and yet, there she was - sat up, knees to her chest, staring out of her bedroom window. She couldn't figure out why, but lately she had felt…off. Liz turned from her window to her phone and sighed heavily. Waking up your best friend on a school night is rude.
She tapped her fingers against her knee in thought, only to realize that it was that Metallica song her best friend had learned a few days ago.
She let out a small laugh as she picked up the receiver and began to dial. Guess I'm rude tonight.
~
The shrill ring of the phone had Eddie bolting upright in a sleepy panic. He swore loudly as his legs got tangled in the sheets, which sent him tumbling out of bed with all the grace of a two-legged deer.
"Shit, Shit, okay, I'm coming, goddammit!" He stumbled through the trailer, managing to hit every corner on the way. He snatched up the receiver and yawned while he rubbed at his eyes. "Mmyeah, hello?"
"Eds, hey, sorry, I know, I just…I can't sleep. Can I crash there tonight?"
He yawned again, wrinkling his face as if wondering why she even asked. "Y'know you don't have to call, just come over. Key's under the steps."
A relieved sigh crackled through the line. "Thank you, Eds, I just can't…I'll be there in ten."
~
Ten minutes later Liz killed the engine and felt a tension leave her shoulders she hadn't even noticed. After searching for a minute, she found the Munson's spare key and let herself in.
"Eds?" She called out in a half whisper.
"My room," he replied.
She poked her head past Eddie's doorframe and found him curled on his side, clearly half asleep. But he gave her a lazy smile and lifted his arm.
"Come on, Supernaut, or you sleep on the floor."
Liz rolled her eyes with a snort, but climbed up next to him without complaint. A soft sigh fell from her lips as his arm curled around her, pulling her close. She could just barely feel his heartbeat if she laid still enough, and the steady rhythm calmed her racing mind immensely.
"Thanks, Iron Man."
"Anytime, Snowblind."
