Chapter Text

(Michiru focused POV)

Michiru wasn’t planning on going to a club on this lovely Thursday. She wanted to spend the rest of her afternoon painting a new piece for an upcoming art gallery event, but her friend Usagi had other ideas.

*earlier*

“Can you come, Michiru? Pleaseeeeeee???”

“Usagi…”

“Can you stay longer this time, at least? You usually leave early but I think you would have fun this time! You might meet a lovely lady! Who knows!”

“I- fine… I’ll be there around 8:00.”

Michiru now stood in front of her vanity, making sure her appearance was decent enough for her liking. She was wearing a shin-length aqua dress that had a faint floral pattern, matching flats, and a necklace with an aquamarine stone shaped as a heart. Michiru smiled to herself, she looked marvelous.

Walking out of the apartment complex, she left the cool summer breeze on her skin. The club she was going to was about seven minutes away by walking, she was thankful for it.

When she arrived, she saw Usagi standing near the entrance with a few of her other friends. “Oh, hi Michiru!! I’m glad you made it safe!”

A small smile formed on Michiru’s lips. “Hello Usagi,” glancing over at the other girls, “Hi Ami and Minako, glad to see you guys.”

“Hello, Michiru!” Minako and Ami said in unison.

Usagi squealed. “The others are on their way and will be here soon. Well, everyone except for Mamo, he’s busy. Anyways, You ready to go in?” She looked at her friends

The three girls nodded.

Usagi leading the way, they entered the bar. It wasn’t busy, late afternoon rush hasn’t started yet, which Michiru was thankful for.

They made it towards the back corner where a huge booth and a couple small tables were.

Michiru sat on the outer edge of the booth with Usagi next to her and then Ami and Minako. The four girls talked about their love lives, the upcoming school year, hobbies, basically anything they could think of.

Usagi’s other friends eventually arrived… Rei, then Makoto, then Setsuna, and then Haruka.

The night was a blur of events, events of which Michiru could barely recall. She stuck with a glass of wine while Rei and Haruka kept downing shots, Minako and Makoto were tipsy and flirted with hot dudes at the bar, Usagi was barely hanging on to conciousness, Ami with a textbook, and then Setsuna and Michiru were sitting at the booth.

Her and Setsuna were talking about whatever came into their minds when Haruka came stumbling over and slouched towards the table.

“Hey Setsunaaaa~~ Wh-Hey who’s this fiiiiiine lady?~” Michiru felt Haruka’s eyes on her. She looked over and Haruka winked.

“This is Michiru Kaioh, you would know this if you made an effort to talk when we were at other outings instead of flirting with girls, then you would know who she was.” Setsuna gave Haruka a sharp look.

Haruka paid no mind to her friend’s attitude. “It-it’s not m-my fault she leaves before I get a chance to talk to herrrrr.!”

Setsuna stood up. “Anyways I gotta go, see you later lovebirds.” Michiru raised a brow at her comment. She didnt even know anything about this woman, why did she call them that?

The blonde sat down across from Michiru and just stared. Before Michiru could say anything, Haruka interrupted her. “Well pretty lady, tell me about you~”

Michiru shifted. “Well, I’m Michiru Kaioh, I play the violin at concerts, and I like to paint.

“Woah I could loooooovvvveee to hear you play, maybe you could play for me? I bet it sounds good.” No matter how drunk this woman was, she was still well at charming anyone she talks to.

A slight blush crept onto Michiru’s face. “Uhm maybe.” She let the blush go from her face before she continued. “Tell me about you.”

Haruka smirked. “Well beautiful, my name is Haruka Tenoh, I race professionally and I play the piano in my free time.”

She smiled. “You should play the piano for me. Even better, we should do a duet, play together, you know?”

Michiru saw a light tint of pink show up on her face. “T-that would be lovely.”

The two went about the night, having fun with their other friends. Michiru still kept to herself but Haruka insisted her to go to the dance floor.

“Come onnnnnn lets go danceeeeee.”

Michiru chuckled. “I’m not really planning om dancing with a drunk! You’ll step on my feet the whole time!”

A huge grin was on Haruka’s feet. “I’ll try not to, I promise!”

They walked over and started dancing to whatever songs were on. They were in sync, it was almost as if they have danced together before, it was just all natural.

After a few songs and a few more drinks for Haruka, Michiru had to sit Haruka down before she face-planted into the floor.

“Whaaaaaaat??? Why arent we dancing? I was having so much funnnn!”

Michiru sighed. “You are too drunk! One more drink and you’ll pass out!” Michiru glanced down at her watch, 1:37 a.m. Shit. When did it get so late? “I am going to take you home. Lets go.”

After Michiru said her goodbyes and Haruka slurring nonsense, they made it out of the bar.

“Okay Haruka, where do you live?”

The look on her face consisted of fear, confusion, and anger. “W-what? I’m n-not telling you where I-I live! Stranger danger!!”

Michiru groaned. “I am no stranger, Haruka! I’m your friend (or at least I think I am), just tell me where you live so I can take you home!”

Haruka mumbled what sounded like the words ‘apartment, and ‘far away’ and ‘yellow convertible’

Michiru pinched the bridge of her nose, she wasn’t in the mood to find Haruka’s car and she sure wasn’t in the mood to find out where she lived. “Okay I guess I’ll just take you back to my apartment and I can deal with bringing you home tomorrow. Im sure you wont mind.” Michiru got no response, just a nod.

The walk would’ve been easy if she didn’t have to keep her attention fully on Haruka, making sure she doesn’t trip or walk into the road.

After the overly long journey, they made it to the complex. They went into the elavator which gave Michiru a chance to rest. Haruka was leaning against a wall, looking like she was about to pass out.

They made it to Michiru’s door and they got into the apartment. “Okay Haruka, you can lay on the couch while I go fetch you some pajamas and a glass of water. Are you good?”

Haruka hummed an affirmative, which made Michiru go get the stuff. A few minutes later she came back and handed the pajamas to Haruka.

“You can change in the bathroom in my room.”

While Haruka was doing that, she changed into her own pajamas and got some painkillers ready for Haruka’s hangover and then got her makeshift bed ready so Haruka could take her bed.

“Michiru?”

Her head shot at the direction of the voice, there stood Haruka in the doorway, her pajamas were a bit tight in the hip and chest area but it will suffice. “Yes?”

“Can you sleep with me?”

Michiru blushed. “Uh..”

“N-no! I- I mean next to me. I don’t want to sleep alone tonight…”

Michiru sighed. “Okay fine.”

They went to Michiru’s room and laid down. She kept her space so she wont regret anything in the morning. Michiru started to doze off before she left strong arms wrap around her body.

Michiru looked over at Haruka with wide eyes.

“I hope you, er-, don’t mind.” Haruka gave her a lopsided smile before burying her face in her hair.

Her heartbeat quickened. She has been aware that Haruka was attractive… knowing that information, Michiru knew she’d never have a chance, so she kept her distance and always left the gatherings before Haruka could get the chance to talk.

What happened tonight further confused Michiru and made her rethink everything. The way Haruka talked to her, the way Haruka listened the best she could even since she was drunk, the way Haruka is holding her right now…

Nothing’s real. Haruka is just drunk and wont mention this once she wakes up.

Michiru felt Haruka’s embrace tighten.

‘This hurts, not being able to actually be with her,’

A few minutes later, sleep overtook Michiru.
