SHWEEMING
(Harringrove)

Billy was standing in front of Steve’s locker waiting for the shorter boy to show up. They were supposed to go out after school, seeing as they hadn’t been able to the previous night. Not too far down the hallway, he saw the boy. They met eyes briefly and Steve smiled warmly, before he looked back at who he was talking to. Nancy. Billy thought. She was never his favourite person and he really wished she would stay away from Steve. Steve waved her off when he got closer and opened his locker fairly quickly. “Why were you with her again?” Billy spat as Steve emptied his arms into the locker. “Jealous, are we?” Steve asked sarcastically in return. “No!” Billy snapped.

“I have no reason to be, Harrington.”

“Sure. Anyway, Nance and I are friends, so it makes sense that I spend time with her.”

Billy glared at the shorter boy, before heading out to his car. “Hey! You can’t just leave me here!” Steve called, chasing after the blonde. “Actually I can. And I might pretty soon here,” Billy teased, rolling his eyes and opening the passenger door of his Camaro for Steve to get in. “Princess,” Billy whispered, slapping Steve’s ass as he got in. “Billy!” Steve hissed as he looked around to make sure no one saw the exchange. “Whatever,” Billy replied, walking around to the driver’s seat and sarting the car. He lit a cigarette as he pulled out of the school’s parking lot.

The drive was silent as Billy contemplated taking Steve home or bringing him over. Neil was out for the week, so no one would be home except the two of them. Eventually, Billy decided to bring Steve to some old stretch of road that he went when he needed to get his anger out. There was a river nearby, next to a wooden bench that could probably hold up to five people. When Billy cut the engine, Steve looked at him. “Where the hell are we?” he asked, staying in his seat. When Billy didn’t answer, he decided to tease the taller boy. “Oh. You’re going to drown me in the river aren’t you? This was your plan all along, wasn’t it?” he asked rhetorically. Billy laughed. “Naw, Pretty Boy. I wouldn’t do that to you,” Billy said, leaning across Steve’s body and opening the door for him. Steve rolled his eyes and got out of the car and Billy followed suit.

“So what exactly are we doing here?” Steve asked, looking around for anything that could be of interest to either of them. Billy walked up behind Steve and turned his head toward the river. “Swimming,” Billy replied. “Seriously?” Steve asked. He was trying to sound disappointed, but he couldn’t hide the smile forming on his face. He turned around and looked Billy in the eyes. “Why?” he asked, tangling his fingers in the taller’s curly, blonde hair. “Just because. You’re hot, so I figured you needed to cool down a bit,” Billy teased. Steve just rolled his eyes in reply and backed up, taking off his t-shirt and jeans. “You coming or what?” Steve called from the river bank. “Yeah, yeah,” Billy yelled back, removing his own shirt. It didn’t take much work because most of the buttons were already undone. However, by the time Billy looked up, Steve was gone. Just gone. “God damn it,” Billy muttered, taking off his jeans, boots and socks and walking to the muddy bank. Just as he was about to wade into the water, Steve’s head popped up from under the surface, making him jump. Billy shot a glare at Steve before jumping into the water and dragging Steve under with him.

When the two surfaced, they were both laughing. Billy’s arm was around Steve’s waist. The water was warmer than either of them had thought, which was a nice surprise. Steve wrapped his arms around Billy’s neck and planted a soft kiss on his lips. Billy quickly leaned into the other boy and he could feel Steve smile. Steve pulled away after a few seconds and swam away from the taller boy. “Oh no you don’t, Princess!” Billy called, swimming after him. Steve wasn’t ahead for very long - due to Billy’s job as a lifeguard the previous summer - and Billy took his chance to grab Steve’s ankle and pull him backwards. Both boys collapsed into the water and resurfaced again as laughing messes. Billy looked down at Steve and smiled sweetly. He looked good with his hair wet. “I love you, Steve,” Billy whispered. Steve pressed his forehead against Billy’s and smiled. “I love you too, Billy.”
