Work Text:
After Octavinelle infiltrated the place - more like Azul walked past Jamil like he was just an obstacle on a track field - and persuaded Kalim that Octavinelle was to help Scarabia out in their training. It was miraculously decided that they can stay in the dorm.
Thus they were led to the same room that held Yuu and Grim captive and let them to their own accords. This led to a conversation between them about the ongoing situation and first impressions followed by their past experiences with the first plan being outlined by the fish maffia - a courtesy name by Grim - which had made them laugh in a canny way.
Grim did voice his opinion about it. Yuu on the other hand didn't really question it. He might have gotten used to this part of their personality already. They were to scam people as much as they liked.
He just wanted to go home, to his real world... is what he would have thought the first month. But after being involved with these people's lives, he realized he may be here for a reason. That it was not just an accident, but fate - at least he wanted to believe that. It didn't help either that he wanted to support everyone. It was his nature to help people in need. Even if it was something small on his part - he wanted to do it.
So when Yuu said he felt more at ease by having Octavinelle by his side might have been true. It felt nice being on the receiving end - without being teased by a certain feline. He really did feel gratitude - even if he knew there was underlying malice behind Azul's smile when he told them what happened in Scrabia, regarding Kalim's weird shift in attitude.
But the fact that he still found the trio's help comforting...Was something worrying in a way. He wondered if he slowly lost it and he is currently sitting in a mental institute.
He even pinched himself unconsciously. 'Yeah, this was reality.' he thought to himself. This action was also a wake call from his thoughts as a sudden realization hit him. They were to share one room between five. And...
There was only one bed.
How did he completely forget about that? When the Scarabia students guided them to their rooms, how come it didn't click in his head? He was to share a room with three of the most intimidating people he just met in school. Was this tough luck?
'Luck? Wait for a second... Why would this be a lucky situation?' he asked himself in mild puzzlement. Was he remotely happy about this turn of actions? Was he interested in these people? 'There's no way that's the case.' he laughed at himself for even considering that in the first place.
But then again, whose idea was this in the first place? Is there any logical explanation for letting them be in one room? Was the twisted in Twisted Wonderland meant something wholly different the whole time and he was just too close-minded that he failed to notice it? Or did just Scarabia miss some gears...?
Then he thought of Kalim stopping Octavinelle from leaving after their terrible act of being "So heartbroken~". Yuu probably put his expectations too high for every dorm after the previous accidents involving the previous dorm leaders. He did wonder though... was Kalim really on the verge of overblot?
"Yuu stop zooming out and start changing" Grim pulled on his pants, trying to get his attention.
"Change?" he asked absentmindedly while his eyes went down to look at the cat creature to catch a glimpse of the other three boys taking off their shirts to change to the nightwear the Scarabia students showed into Jade's hands before closing the room into their faces. "Oh..." he mouthed in surprise, catching on with the outside world.
"Koebi-chan is really out of it" laughed Floyd, "I am very tempted to squeeze him a little" continued talking as he finished taking off his shirt and throwing it in a random direction. Yuu noticed his tie and coat were also scattered around in the same fashion. Floyd didn't bother to put on the nightshirt right away, but instead flopped down on the bed and laid out flat on it.
"Floyd, could you please take the minimal effort to not throw your clothes around," said Jade, throwing Floyd's sock precisely into his twin's face. "And do not claim the bed just yet," he added, as he neatly folded his own clothes and put them onto an empty chair, already fully dressed in the nightwear.
"Too troublesome" whined Floyd, not even taking the effort to remove the sock from his face as he spoke, and from the sigh Jade left out it was clear that there was no way he will move a muscle.
Yuu didn't even pay full attention to the twins' antics as he was flabbergasted by a certain silver head. He would lie if he said he wasn't slightly worried for the boy, he heard certain rumors floating around for a few days regarding the photo.
Yuu knew there were malicious people in the school, and Azul might have deserved it in a way. But in reality, Azul didn't cause real harm to anyone. If he was really that evil, he would have made all those students work for him until the existence of Mostro Lounge, but he didn't. He was worried that those rumors would affect Azul in a bad way.
So when he now sees Azul changing in front of him with a completely calm expression without a care for the stares, he couldn't help the smile that escaped to the corner of his face, decorating his whole face.
With this, his worries about Azul was starving himself, that he was fixated on his appearance so much that he would harm himself because of it, popped out like a bubble. Seeing Azul's figure without his usual clothes on helped eased this concern.
Of course, Yuu knew it meant something else, too. He didn't even notice that his smile became even wider giving him quite a dorky look as he also changed fast, putting his clothes on the chair's back.
What Yuu failed to notice with now his back to Azul, as he finally paid attention to Grim who was nagging at his feet for tuna - is that said silverette-haired boy had a soft smile on his face as he hang his coat and hat onto the coat rack.
All respect goes to Jade, who not only managed to make Floyd collect his clothes at least into a hump on the floor, but also managed to make him fully dressed into his own nightwear and now soundly asleep - well, still sprawled out - on the bed. Jade was also asleep by Floyd's side, he didn't even seem to mind Floyd's limbs laying on his body.
'Might be a twin thing' Yuu thought as he peeked up to steal a glimpse of an also snoozing furball who seemed to be very content with his dream as he occasionally murmured "tuna" in a very happy voice. 'Cute' smiled Yuu.
He noticed the lack of the fifth body on the bed and he couldn't help scanning the room to find the missing boy. Once he did spot him, he turned his body softly to his side to get a clearer view of Azul who was sitting on a chair by the window, basking in the moonlight that escaped through the shutter lighting up his silhouette.
'He is beautiful' considered Yuu, as he watched Azul's slender fingers playing with a coin, his eyes fixated on the views of Scrabia. He didn't wear his glasses, so Yuu could see his gorgeous eyes more clearly. 'His name really does fit him perfectly' he noted.
Right now Azul's eyes hid no malice - it seemed he was lost in thought, pondering about something, which made sense. Azul was a very calculative person, he never played with fate. Yuu was almost sure Azul made plans for literally every possible outcome. Nothing was there to gamble, he was a true strategist using all means to his advantage - playing a marionette game where he was the master and everything was under his control till the very end.
"Could you please contain yourself from staring at me too much?" called Azul's voice, but weirdly enough it didn't sound either angry or cold.
"I am sorry" apologized almost immediately Yuu, and he took it as his cue to carefully crawl out of bed and sneaked silently to the chair opposite Azul. "I did not mean to do it" he sighed as he sat down in the chair.
Azul had quite an amused look on his face. Probably because he didn't expect that Yuu would take it as an invitation on his part, but in all honesty, he didn't mind the company. He soon looked outside the window again, his fingers playing with that one coin in a familiar motion.
"Do you perhaps play an instrument?" asked Yuu in newfound courage.
"I used to play the piano" answered Azul truthfully. Even if he was also surprised by his own words leaving his mouth without a second thought. He was too late to stop them.
"That's so nice!" Yuu couldn't contain his excitement as he grabbed the table. Once he realized his hectic actions, he bashfully pulled his hands back. "I am sorry," he said in a thin voice as a pink flush appeared on his cheek. 'I totally act like a child right now!' he screamed in his head.
It came with a great surprise when he heard a soft chuckle coming from the silver-haired boy, who put down the coin on the table and finally decided to look straight at Yuu. "Now I understand" he stated.
Yuu gave him a puzzled look. Did he do something? 'Other than staring at him changing his clothes and burning holes into his back - read the room idiot'.
"What do you mean?" asked Yuu innocently. He will not admit that shameful thing, not to the person in question.
"That I can update your file in my own personal collection" smirked Azul, but again his eyes remained crystal clear. And Yuu knew that meant Azul was obviously teasing him.
"You're really a lousy kid, show some respect for your elders, will you?"
To this Azul left out a slightly louder laugh, but not loud enough to wake up anyone, but still enough to have it ring in Yuu's ears. He did wonder before what Azul's laughter sounded like, it was kinda cute.
"You said I am hard-working," said Azul matter-of-factly, quoting Yuu's words from the day of the museum.
"You are just being mean right now" stated Yuu. "Using my own words against me." he sat with his arms crossed with a pout.
"What's in your heart is on your face" cited Azul, as he stared at the coin. "Aren't we all have a side we want to hide away from everyone? In an attempt to hide or protect it." he extended his hand to grab Yuu's, dropping the coin into his palm. "You can never look at both sides at the same time. But they are both there, even if it is not obvious."
Yuu now was clearly confused as he silently stared at the coin in his hand, he has no clue where was Azul getting at with all this. But he had thought this was exactly what Azul was thinking about a while ago
"Not everyone has the same sides as you" Azul clarified, seeing Yuu's clear confusion. "You are a dangerous person in everyone's story" he sighed. "You are too nice for your own good."
Yuu slowly seemed to understand where this was going. He heard people calling him a goody-two-shoes, did Azul think it was bothering him by any chance?
"Who cares about sides?" he leaned his back to the chair. "I do not care if you are awfully evil, or lawfully good, I meant when I told you, that you hold a far stronger power now." he put the coin down on the table holding it by the rim. "Who cares about good or bad when there's always a fine line between the two. So, be proud of who you are, be proud of how far you have come!" he blurted out what he knew was secretly eating at his heart.
He knew he probably cared for Azul the most from the past encountered dorm leaders - because his case was different. It was not an inside of a family. It was from a whole community, a community where he wanted to belong, but was constantly stabbed by them.
There was a long silence that passed between them. Yuu wondered if he overstepped his boundaries. He couldn't see Azul's face clearly as the boy was looking down at his entangled hands on the table, and it didn't help that he had very long eyelashes that acted as a curtain from Yuu's angle.
He was in a world full of villains. Yet, he felt like he was in a world of misunderstood and mistreated people.
"I didn't regret taking revenge on the people who bullied me until now," said Azul suddenly. "I thought, they deserved it for not accepting me." he sighed. "But at the end, I may be a little grateful for them."
He was still looking down but Yuu was sure he encountered Azul's "crybaby side" by accident. So, with a soft sigh and with a comforting smile on his face. "I am also happy that I was able to meet you, Azul Ashengrotto, Dorm Leader of Octavinelle." as he leaned forward at patted Azul's head in a calming motion.
What both of them failed to notice were the smiles of the two brothers.
"Ugh..." moaned Yuu when he woke up with Floyd's leg on his body. "I will beg for a second room." he groaned some more as he looked at the clock showing 1 AM. With another groan, he looked at his side only to realize Azul sleeping soundly next to him.
Yuu then remembered back to the conversation they had before heading to bed.
"Are you really the one who created that scammy contract? Do you happen to have a twin yourself?" joked Yuu, handing a handkerchief to Azul.
"Stop teasing me, or you would like to face me in a magical fight?" retorted back Azul, giving his trademark smirk.
"You really have not an inch of good bone in you" responded Yuu with a smile. "Trying to use magic against an ordinary human."
They spent the night with more idle chatting, now in bed. Yuu even at one point was able to convince Azul to play the piano for him.
Azul eased up to Yuu, but of course, he knew this was solely only meant for him. Azul was still a cunny man, with an inner child inside - and Azul trusted him enough to let a mere ordinary human spoil that child.
Yuu - fighting against Floyd's stray limb - turned his face Azul, who at one point was leaning onto Yuu's shoulder when he fall asleep.
'Maybe, just maybe, being stuck in this world wasn't so bad.' And with that Yuu closed his eyes. 'Thank you, Scrabia for the only one bed.'
