Chapter Text
“You have everything right? Books-”
“Yes-”
“Color pencils and-”
“And crayons? Yes and yes, Dad I’m pretty sure my backpack is so full I can probably survive a zombie apocalypse.”
.

.
“Are you sure you have your lunch with you?”
“Dad!”
A full hearted chuckle erupts as Clark Kent steps into the living room, one hand holding an insulated coffee cup and the other ruffling his son's hair, “I’m only messing with you, but we do have to get going soon, early bird gets the worm.”
The move from Metropolis to Gotham was tough, especially considering the fact that Jon would be farther away from Lois - but traveling the distance between the two cities wouldn’t be a problem for Clark during the weekends. The move was mainly due to work, Clark was offered to work in Gotham for at least next year - included in the move was a very nice raise, he decided it was worth the move. And after a fairly long talk with Lois, it was final, he and Jon would move to Gotham and Lois would still see their son over the weekend - including phone calls throughout the week.
Their morning had been great so far, Jon woke up earlier than Clark had expected, then again he was talking non-stop the night before about how excited he was for his first day of his new school. Jon was entering first grade, Clark wasn’t worried if Jon would be able to make friends or not, the man was sure his son could make friends wherever he went - what he was worried about is the type of reputation Gotham held - yes he knew Jon could handle his own if anything were to happen, but that didn’t mean he would suddenly stop worrying about his son.
Not to forget the fact that Clarks never met the infamous ‘Batman’ of Gotham, this was his territory, something Clark had forgotten to account for when deciding on the move. (Nice going there).
“Jon, what do you say we stop for donuts before school?”, he asks while searching for his jacket and laptop case, Jon nods, excited at the mention of a sweet treat before being sent off for school. Once in the hallway of their apartment complex, Clark intertwines his hand with Jons own smaller one before they can head off on the walk towards the school. Luckily they didn’t live too far away, and although the option to just fly over was easier - Clark preferred the time to spend with his son, he enjoyed small moments such as these.
Jon swings their hands while they walk, the bounce in his step from pure excitement, “Dad, do you think that Batman is gonna be my teacher?”, Clark snorts at the sudden question proposed to him, “Who knows…maybe your teacher is Wonder Woman?”
Jon giggles besides Clark, Wonder Woman being his teacher? No way is that possible! Batman being his teacher, definitely made more sense!

Bruce Wayne was late for work, not that it mattered if he was late or not - he was his own boss - but what did matter was the fact that he had an important meeting to be a part of and yet he’s currently stuck in traffic because someone- “Drake! Move away from my seat, you’re too close for comfort.”
“There is literally an inch gap between us, Hellspawn.”
“No there isn’t, you're half an inch away from me.”
“Actually he’s a quarter of an inch away from you.”
Right, he still hasn’t dropped off his boys for school.
Bruce glances at the car's rear view mirror, and from what he can see, Tim is currently sitting in between Duke and Damian. The youngest of the three, Damian, has a scowl on his face as he shuffles around to place his backpack between him and Tim. Bruce sighs before looking back at the car jammed road ahead of him, “I better not hear any more arguing back there, and before you start- I don’t care who started it.”, he says in warning, and although he couldn’t see it, he could hear Tim sulking back into his seat and Damian quietly placing his head against the window - that should keep them from starting up another petty argument for at least the rest of the ride, hopefully.
Typically Bruce would drive the SUV for this exact reason, but the car was currently getting fixed because Jason thought it would be funny to take the family van out for a joy ride. He popped a tire and now there was something wrong with the AC and radio.
So they settled for the compact car for the morning, you’d expect Bruce Wayne of all people to own multiple vehicles - but with what happened to the SUV, now you know why he doesn’t.
“Duke, how do you feel? Going into high school is a big milestone.”, Duke shrugs from his seat, “I feel nervous I guess, I have Tim to help me out if I do get lost though.”, he says while playfully elbowing Tims side, the eldest of the three snorts at his movement. Bruce smiles to himself, he was glad that Duke was going to have at least someone at school to rely on, especially considering it was an entirely new environment. Tim was a senior, so he wasn’t too worried about him, but he was emotional about the thought that he would be graduating soon. Damian on the other hand, Bruce wasn’t sure how he was going to do on his first day. First grade, Damian was homeschooled, but this year Bruce made an ultimatum with his son. If Damian began to attend school physically, he would be able to begin his training to become Robin.
If it was Bruce’s way, he would rather settle on something else, but it was the only compromise that his son would agree to. He was just as stubborn as Bruce. Damian certainly wasn’t excited, miserable was the best way to put it when Bruce saw him in the early morning.
The cars are finally starting to move forward, and now being able to change lanes, Bruce drives to the nearest exit so he could take the streets as a faster route. Duke and Tim would most likely arrive by the time the first bell went off, and Damians teacher would probably be introducing herself to students and parents before class began - they should have enough time.
Bruce’s meeting can wait, it wasn’t like he’ll get in trouble for it anyways.
