Chapter Text
That fateful night, when everyone called it a terrorist attack in the aftermath, Meiko Mochizuki was one of the children in Heighton View Terrace. She witnessed everything. Parrotmon terrified her. She’d never seen such a huge bird before and wondered why he was attacking the other Digimon.
Not that she knew either of them were Digimon at the time. Meiko hadn’t had the interaction Taichi and Hikari had with Greymon as he evolved. She didn’t know that Greymon had emerged from their father’s computer as a Digitama. Everything was all so foreign and different. It was confusing to be honest.
It was in the aftermath that she received her own Digimon. Her name was Meicoomon and she was absolutely adorable. She was cat-like and perfect. Meiko loved cats. Her family had owned a cat when she was a couple of years old, but it had passed away not long after.
Meiko gave Meicoomon a tight hug, but still allowed the Digimon to breathe. “I love you, Mei-chan. You’re perfect.” She smiled at the feline Digimon who grinned nervously back. Meiko looked at the device in her hand, the Digivice. The girl assumed the device would allow her to evolve Meicoomon.
Meiko pocketed the device for now and glanced back at her Digimon partner. She wanted to know more about the creatures called Digimon and asked her parents. Her father looked down at her and frowned. Her mother didn’t answer either.
“Mama? Papa?” The young girl asked, looking between her parents.
Her mother shook her head, continuing to remain silent. It was her father who spoke up. Meiko quickly learned not to question her parents about anything Digimon related.
“It’s not your place to know things about these creatures. We might tell you later on, when you’ve grown up a bit.”
“Okay. I’m sorry.” Meiko lowered her head, feeling ashamed for wanting to know more about the Digimon. All she wanted was to know more about them. Was that so wrong? She didn’t think so.
Mei-chan seemed to pick up on her sadness and placed her paws on her leg. “Meiko, are you okay?” The Digimon murmured, her voice soft. She could tell her partner was upset and didn’t like that the adults in the room had caused it.
Meiko sighed and patted Mei-chan on the head once. “I’m fine, Mei-chan. Thanks for worrying about me. You’re a good partner Digimon.”
