Chapter Text
You know, it's kind of a rare occurence for a commoner to be liked at Eden Academy. It's a prestigious academy where various kids who come from powerful families study in hopes to become an Imperial Scholar, a respected status in the school. Commoners are often despised in this school because they lack "elegance." Or in other words, despised because they're not rich like them. But in these cases, the whole of Eden made an exception.
Enter Loid Forger, who is a cold and studious young man who happened to be popular with the ladies because of his good looks, emotionless persona, and immense talent. Nicknamed 'Twilight', with 4 Stella Stars under his belt, he is on course to become the first Imperial Scholar that is a commoner.
"L-Loid-san!" A girl called him out in the corridors, "I-I've been wanting to say this for a long time, and I hope you take notice of this..." the girl began.
"I-I'm in love with you. Please go out with me!"
Loid, who was standing there, made absolutely no expression whatsoever. Before he can turn her down, we enter his mind.
One of Loid's particular interests was doing background checks on the students among his year, so this is just a normal Monday for him, if the author's being honest.
'Elena Borg. Daughter of a sports equiment owner, her brother Alex is a famous international tennis player. She has 0 Stella Stars and has extremely average grades. But is popular among the boys in the year, and loves to play with their feelings.' Loid thinks to himself, not fazed by her background.
"...No." Loid coldly rejects her.
"H-Huh!? W-Why?" The confused girl asks. "A-am I not good enough?"
"Yes. You're not good enough to be my girlfriend. Also, the countless boys who've been chasing you will interrupt my studies if I ever agreed." Loid began, "You're also average in your studies, you lack manners and your friends are only fond of you because your brother is the reigning French Open champion. You're only seen as 'Alex Borg's younger sister.' Good day." Loid ends the conversation with no regrets whatsoever.
"H-How could you!?" The shaken girl runs away, devastated after being rejected by her crush. "I hate you, Loid-san!"
"Wow. This is the 7th girl you've rejected so far." Loid's best friend Franky Franklin comes in the picture. "Come on, man. At least give one girl a chance to date the one and only Loid Forger."
Loid sighed, "They're all socialites, Franky. Even if I agreed, their families would never approve of me anyway and there wouldn't be any spark in the relationship. It's better to be in love with someone who's in the same social hierarchy as you."
"Okay, fine. Whatever you say, bro." Franky replied in a sarcastic tone. "You're too much of an overthinker."
Then, Franky realizes that another commoner that Loid might be fond of so he decides to mention her. "Ooh, but what about Yor Briar? She's a commoner. You could give her a chance."
"Eh, Y-Yor-san?" Loid froze.
Franky notices this, and proceeds to make fun of his best friend. "Eh? Don't tell me you have a thing for her? Oh my. How cute, Twilight. Don't worry, I'll be supporting you!"
"Shut the hell up before I beat the shit out of you." Loid tells him off with a menacing look on his face.
"Ah, o-okay." A terrified Franky concedes defeat.
As they were walking on the way to the cafeteria, they cross paths with Yor Briar, an ethereal beauty. Known by the nickname 'Thorn Princess', she is called this as she has broken a lot of hearts when boys profess their love for her. She just happens to not be interested in boys and is more committed in taking care of her younger brother, Yuri.
"Ah, Loid-san! Franky-san! Good morning to you both!" Yor happily greets the two.
"Ah good morning, Yor. Nice to see you on this fine day." Franky greets her back.
Loid then proceeds to do the usual background check on Yor.
'Yor Briar. A commoner. Her grades are below average and is known for her beauty and kind personality. Her parents died in the war and all she has left is her younger brother Yuri, who is her top priority.' Loid background checks her in his mind.
"Hm, Loid-san? Is everything okay?" A confused Yor tilts her head, not knowing why Loid didn't reply to her greeting.
But little did she know, Loid was also beginning to think of Yor Briar in a different way, as his heart was beating as fast as an F1 car.
Loid then proceeds to snap back into reality.
"O-Oh, Yor-san. G-Good morning." An embarrased Loid replied, stopping his background check.
"Ehe! Good morning to you too!" Yor greets him back. "So anyways, where are you two headed?"
"Oh, we were just gonna get something to eat, wanna have a meal with us?" Franky invites her to eat with him and Loid in the cafeteria.
"Oh yes, certainly! I'd love to chat with you guys." Yor agrees to his invitation.
As Loid was showing a slight blush, a smug looking Franky boasts about how he's helping his best friend find love.
'Heh heh, no need to thank me, Loid. I know your current state and as your best friend, I'm going to help you with your problems.' Franky boasts with a smug look on his face, only to regret it after Loid gives him a menacing look.
Now at the cafeteria, the three order their meals of choice and are now sitting in chairs and start chatting away.
"So Yor," Franky began, "Are there any TV shows you like watching?"
"Eh...I don't really watch a lot of TV if I'm being honest. But my brother Yuri does. He likes this animated show called 'The Secret Service' though. So I do watch that show with him sometimes."
"Oh, I thought you were the type of girl to watch Berlint In Love."
"E-Eh!? N-No! Berlint In Love is too explicit for me to watch, Franky-san."
"Oh, okay." Franky concluded. "Um, anyways, is there anything you like about Eden?"
Meanwhile, Loid was quietly having his meal but at certain times, he looks up to Yor who was having a laugh and was showing a bright smile on her face as she was talking about how much she likes Eden.
'Well, she is kind of beautiful...' Loid thinks to himself, showing a small blush on his face, while looking away.
Franky realizes this, and decides to give Loid an assist.
"Oh hey, Yor-san. I got an important question to ask you." Franky began.
"Hm? Sure, ask away!"
"What do you think of Loid?" Franky asks with a typical smug look.
As he asked this, Loid went on to accidentally choke on his meal but managed to calm himself after drinking a glass of water.
"Hmm, what do I think of Loid-san?" Yor tries to think, "Oh! I really like how kind he is!"
Loid hears this and begins to blush after Yor says it with a bright smile on her face.
"Eh, really?" Franky replies while looking at the embarrased Loid.
"Yes, really! Just the other day I saw him taking care of the flowers in the garden. And there was something so calming about him gardening!"
"Wow...gardening, you say!?" A smug looking Franky replied.
'E-Eh!? She saw me!?' An embarrased Loid thought to himself. He was particularly known for being observant and can feel one's presence lurking behind him, but in this case it didn't happen.
"W-Well, thank you for the kind words, Yor-san..."
"No problem, Loid-san! I really appreciate how much of a kind classmate you are, and I hope you get the remaining Stella Stars in the future!" Yor compliments him, while an embarrased Loid looks like he was about to have a heart attack.
Suddenly, the bell rang, effectively ending lunch.
"Oh, that's the bell! See you in class, you two!"
"Yeah, we'll catch you later." Franky replied.
Meanwhile an embarrased Loid couldn't help but be frustrated at what Franky said.
"Heh heh, no need to thank m-"
"Embarass me infront of her again and you're dead meat." A menacing Loid threatens him as he pulls his collar.
"W-Why are you mad!?"
Meanwhile, Yor looks back at the two who were arguing over how Franky was embarassing Loid and can't help but let out a soft smile.
'Those two have a really great friendship, huh?' Yor thinks to herself.
