"If Conall hadn't found her, she would be dead." A group of Fae stood in a room; the other light came from the center of the room from the ceiling. In the middle of the circle was Borra, A desert Fae. Lin, A forest Fae, watched and listened from the side as Borra talked. "They tried to kill her with this." He was holding a small iron ball; it hissed in his hold. Lin frowned and crossed her arms; she didn't like that he was holding something that was hurting him. He brings the ball close to his ear and asks if they can hear it; he repeats himself but yells this time while holding the ball up again. Borra was slowly spinning as he talked. "Huh?!" His voice echoed. "It's a message from the humans. I hear it loud and clear. Time for us to die." A new voice spoke. "Humans have used iron against us for centuries."
The owner of the voice is in the shadows; Borra turns to the voice. "And we are almost extinct because of it." Lin almost took a step forward but stopped herself. "Killing peasants on the Moors will only lead to more conflict, Borra." Lin can tell Borra was upset in more ways than one. "They've pulled the iron from the earth, made their swords and shields, drove us underground." It's not the first time he was brought up; Lin often told him that humans aren't like them. Borra is stubborn when it comes to Fae dying, even more, stubborn when it comes to her safety and humans. "But this..." He lifts the iron ball again before throwing it to Conall. "This will finish us." Conall immediately spoke. "Our people are safe here for now." "But for how long? The humans with find us. They will not stop. I call for war." Lin frowned deeply as she heard some agreeing to his claim, Borra's eyes landed on her, but she refused to agree with him. She shook her head with a sad look; Borra wasn't happy. "I call for war. Right now!"
Everyone agreed. "There are too many humans." Conall throws the ball and walks forward. "Too many kingdoms." "Conall, they will keep finding new ways to destroy us." Conall stopped walking once he was in the light. "We can't win." Conall turns around and yells. "We can't win!" He looked at Borra and spoke in a normal tune. "Not this way." "No. You're wrong, Conall. We have something they didn't plan on. We have her." Borra turns and gestures to the injured unknown Fae. Everyone looks at the female; Borra looks back at Conall. "She holds powers none of us possess." Conall's eyes never left the female since Borra pointed her out. "She is wounded, Borra."
The female looked scared as she spoke. "Who are you?" Borra smirks a bit before flying over to the female. "Borra, don't. Her wound will take longer to heal if--" Lin started to say but stopped when Borra's wings lifted just enough to show Lin a gesture; Lin growled a little in warning but calmed after. Lin could feel a slight growl in her chest as she saw Borra get closer to the female. Conall looked hesitant; Lin moved to stand next to him and placed her hand on his arm. She nodded when he looked at her; their eyes returned to Borra.
The female hisses and Lin yells Borra's name as he is thrown across the room; Lin quickly goes to him and places her hand on his shoulder. Borra looks over at the female before looking at Conall; Lin moved slightly since she was right in front of Borra. "You see?" Looking back at everyone, they seemed somewhat worried. Borra stands; he subconsciously helps Lin up as he speaks. "You see what's inside her?" He asked with a hint of anger was in his voice; Lin stood after grabbing Borra's hand. She moves back a bit in case he wants to spend his wings and fly off; she stares at the female in silence. Lin heard a few agreeing with his statement before he continued to talk. "That is what will save us all." Everyone agreed and went down the hole that led to the main area; Borra looked at Lin for a moment before joining the others. Lin didn't hesitate to follow him, leaving Conall and the female behind.
As Lin flew to her home, she felt something touch her foot and saw Borra with a smug look on his face. She laughed and shook her head in amusement as he circled her; when she landed, he landed next to her and gave her a small kiss on the cheek before flying off to the sound of her giggling. He stops and turns to her; he bows his head with his fist against his chest, a sweet smile on his lips. She smiles brightly and returns the bow before he flies off to visit some of the other desert faes. That evening, Everyone was at the bonfire. Lin was with the others dancing when she noticed Borra was watching her; she smiled and continued to dance. All was well until the female decided to leave; Lin stopped and looked at Borra. He gave her a 'stay here' look before following Conall; Lin followed them to the edge of the cliff, where Udo grabbed her. Stopping her from following, Lin had a horrible feeling. She looked down and pulled at her arm; the grip on her arm tightened. "Let go." "You will follow." She shook her head, and her wings started to circle her; Udo hesitated but let go. Lin immediately left and went to the Phoenix mural; she sat on the ground and hid behind her wings as she brought up her legs.
Borra and Lin had known each other for a long time, the two were constantly spotted together, and even when they weren't, the other was not too far away. For the past few years, they have been dancing around each other like a game; everyone could see that they liked one another but were confused as to why they had mated yet. Even she was confused on why he hadn't asked her yet; She was waiting. But she was starting to get impatient; Borra always disliked humans even more, when she got hurt the one night he took her out to see the stars. That night, Borra went feral. It took Lin hugging him for him to stop; that was difficult to do when she was in so much pain. Lin tightened her grip around her legs; ever since that one rare time Borra came back seriously injured, Lin is so scared that one day, he wouldn't come back and that if that happened, she would have missed her chance. Lin let out a sob; she sat there alone, praying that Borra would return unharmed.
She doesn't know how long she was there, but it was a while before she heard voices and noises; she turned around and quickly went to the tree everyone was gathered around. She gasps when she sees Conall; she immediately starts looking around. She was beginning to panic, then she saw him. She went to him and wrapped her arms around him; he wrapped one arm around her waist and rested his other hand on her head. He mumbled a gentle, below a whisper, sorry as she silently started to cry into his armored collarbone. After a moment, she turns to Conall. Borra kissed her horn and watched with everyone else; he stayed for a moment before flying away when the female looked at him. Lin turns and yells for him; he turns and yells for her to stay there. She froze; Borra had never yelled at her before. It surprised her and startled her at the same time. She didn't move for a moment before going to Conall; she stood behind the elders.
The golden glow from the elder's hands was a beautiful sight, but Lin knew he wouldn't make it. "Rest well, old friend." Lin said in sadness as a tear fell down her cheek; the golden circle around them fell as the female leaned forward to rest her forehead gently on Conall's. She moved to the Phoenix mural, and looked at it in silence; she closed her eyes. Her eyes opened, and she followed the female, Maleficent. The female looked at her, and Lin hissed. "If the humans are destined to kill us, then I'm going to die in the arms of my beloved." Lin knew Maleficent wasn't thinking right, but Maleficent let her follow.
Keeping up with Maleficent was difficult, but Lin managed just fine. When they arrived, Lin stayed back to allow Maleficent space. Maleficent had sent a shockwave, releasing magic out onto the ground, knocking people over, and freeing some of the faes that got captured. Her magic flowed out from her body and wings; Lin was so memorized that she almost didn't hear Maleficent telling her to find her beloved. As Maleficent flew around, Lin moved to find Borra. Just as she found him, she saw a sword being pulled on him. She hesitated as she watched from the sky; she was so distracted by Borra that she didn't notice one of the humans pointing a crossbow at her. She had noticed at the last second as an iron ball went right through her wing when she turned. She screams out in pain and falls; she is caught by one of the faes in the air and laid down on the ground. The iron ball had gone right threw the top of her wing where the bone was; she couldn't fly.
The Fae with her was bandaging her wing when they heard a voice. "Maleficent is dead!" Everything stopped, and her heart broke. She needed to get to Borra quickly; her only request was to die with Borra if she were to die. Then there was a roar, Lin snapped her head around, and her eyes widened. She stood up and watched in shock; the legend was true. The phoenix was real. Her eyes widened as the phoenix came crashing down onto the courtyard. She and the Fae with her moved closer to everyone else. Luckily, both the princess and Maleficent were okay. Lin joined everyone bowing to Maleficent; the prince ran up. The princess and prince hugged before Maleficent returned to normal; Maleficent and the princess hugged before Maleficent asked the prince if he loved her daughter, and the prince said with all he had. A small person runs up and gives Maleficent something that she throws into the air; it disappears.
After that, the Fae starts helping the humans, and the prince notices. Both the prince and princess agreed that there will be no more fighting and that there will be peace. A wedding is to happen between the prince and princess. Maleficent hits the ground with her staff twice, making vines appear. She made the place look pretty and added a beautiful tree in the middle. Lin was trying to find Borra but couldn't find him anywhere; she was starting to get a bit scared. When she saw him, without hesitation, she ran to him. "Borra!" The male was standing in front of Maleficent; hearing his name, he turned just in time to catch Lin. She wrapped her arms around his neck as her legs wrapped around his waist; Borra stumbled a bit but wrapped his arms around her before pulling back when he realized something. "I told you to stay there! Why don't you listen?!" She flinched and quickly removed herself from him and started yelling back. "You the one that doesn't listen! How many times have I told you not to fight with the humans?! I TOLD YOU SO MANY TIMES--" "YOU KNOW WHY! DON'T ACT LIKE THIS--" "WHAT ABOUT ME?!" Borra froze as Lin started to cry. " I LOST SO MANY PEOPLE I CAN'T LOSE YOU TOO. I CAN'T LIVE WITH THE THOUGHT THAT YOU DIED BEFORE I COULD--" Her voice broke as an uncontrolled sob left her lips; she fell on her knees before yelling the rest of what she had to say before she was physically unable to. "BEFORE I COULD TELL YOU that I love you! I'd rather d-- die in your arms th-- then alone..." She couldn't hold it anymore as she leaned forward a sobbed loudly. Borra was frozen as he stared at her; his eyes widened, and he was oddly pale. When the realization hit him, he dropped and begged her not to cry, to look at him, but she refused.
"My love, please... I beg you..." Lin froze when she heard him call her his love, but his tune really surprised her. He was begging like actually begging; there was so much sadness in his voice that it sounded like he was going to cry. She looked up, and he hugged her tightly. "I'm so sorry... I was so blinded that I didn't see that I was hurting you." He pulls back and cups her face. "I never wanted to hurt you, yet I did without knowing..." He lowered his head a bit as his hands fell to his lap, and her heart sped up. He looks up at her. "I love you, Lin." Her eyes widened, and she stopped breathing, making Borra panic. She moved towards him and went up on her knees; she cupped his face and kissed him. He didn't move for a moment, wrapping his arms around her waist, bringing her hips closer to his chest.
After a moment, they pulled apart but stayed close enough to still feel each other's breath on their faces. There were cheers in the background, making them smile; Lin giggled as Borra lifted her as he stood. He placed her on her feet and nuzzled her neck, making her giggle. Borra turned his attention to Maleficent, who was watching them; Borra smiled softly. "If only Conall could see you now." Maleficent's smile softened. "Borra. It's time to come home." Borra exhaled softly and looked down at Lin; he had his arm over her shoulder, side hugging her. Lin looked up at him with a bright smile. The princess appears from behind the tree branches; she greets everyone before asking for Maleficent. Before Maleficent left, she lightly touched Lin's injured wing. Lin's wing healed, and she excitedly looked a Borra, who looked at her with a gentle look.
Borra and Lin were in the sky at sunset, above the clouds. Lin had her arms loosely around Borra's neck as Borra had his hands on her waist; he rested his forehead on hers. With eyes closed, they were at peace. Letting their body slowly spin due to the wind current, they let themselves relax and enjoy each other's company. Tilting her head a bit, she kissed him before she whispered five words Borra held close to his heart.
"I love you, My mate."
