Kate takes a deep breath as she aims for the final target. If she scores high on this one, then she wins the entire tournament. Winning this could open up so many doors for her, but she is not nervous. In fact, she is more focused than ever before.
She lets go of the string and the arrow hits perfectly in the center.
“Katherine Bishop wins!” the announcer says, and everyone cheers. Her team surrounds her, and you make your way down to her from the stands, ready to celebrate with your best friend.
Once she catches sight of you, she runs to hug you. She wraps her arms around you and practically lifts you up in the air.
“I’m so proud of you, Kate!” you tell her.
She’s caught up in the excitement and she kisses you right on the lips. You feel the world fade around you and time stops as her soft lips kiss you delicately. But the bliss doesn’t last as Kate’s teammates call her over to celebrate with them again.
“I- uh- yeah, I gotta go. But um- thank you for coming,” Kate says, unable to really form coherent thoughts.
“Always,” you reply.
Later that night as you close your eyes to sleep you can still feel her lips against yours. You never thought about Kate as more than a friend, but the feeling of her kiss was way too ethereal for you to think you can ever just be friends with her again.
A couple of days go by, and you and Kate haven’t talked about the kiss. You’ve only seen her in person one time, and it was a casual walk by while she was with some of her team. But Kate asked you to come over tonight to hang out, so here you are knocking on her door.
“Come in!” Kate shouts from the kitchen.
“Hey,” you say, hopefully not sounding as awkward as you are feeling.
“I think we should start with the conversation we need to have,” Kate cuts right to the point.
“Yeah, I think so too,” you sit on the couch, and she sits next to you.
“So,” Kate begins. “Okay, I’m just going to say it. I like you, y/n. I really like you. And I thought maybe when you came in here that I would apologize to you for kissing you, but I just can’t. I wanted it to happen, I wanted-”
“Kate, please,” you say before you interrupt her with a kiss. She’s shocked, but she kisses you back. “I like you, too,” you say, pulling away from her lips.
“Okay so, shut me up again,” Kate says. You oblige, kissing her until you have to break from smiling too much into the kiss.
