Chapter Text
It was a nice summers afternoon and the camp counselors were all at the front of the mess hall waving goodbye to the campers that were leaving on the bus, it had seemed like forever that summer went on and on and some of them were released to have the time off again. Away from snotty little bratty kids, they had to deal with them all summer and most disobeyed and didn't want to listen to any of them. The whole place was left a mess and they knew they would have to stay overtime just to clean up all the mess that was left behind by the small campers.
And now in present time they stand here, Jacob was complaining about all the work and how he didn't want to do it. Suggesting they should take one day off and then start the next, Nick swore he could see Emma visibly scoff at the idea, he arms crossed over eachother as she stared at Jacob with her eyes half close and eyebrows furrowed. she was definitely annoyed with Jacobs sudden foolishness.
Nick couldn't help but let out a small chuckle at this, the way he always complained about the smallest things, it really wasn't all that much as he made it out to be. But he also couldn't blame the jock because it was a lot of work either way, and his muscles were killing him from all the previous work that was put down on him. He couldn't catch a break honestly, it was basically impossible here.
After a while, the counselors caved in and went with Jacobs idea which had the boy punching the air in relief. They had the day off now thanks to him, and Nick wanted to actually thank him, but that would definitely look weird so he only shot him a small smile, which was quickly returned.
Nick sometimes found himself staring at him in a way that friends shouldn't just stare at eachother, and it was weird. He thought he was supposed to like Abigail, she was nice, smart, talented. Everything Nick looked for in someone. He would never find himself admiring such a pinhead like Jacob but here he was. Looking at him like he was some prized possession honestly.
Having to shake the thoughts from his head he was brought back to reality as he saw the rest of the group heading over to the mess hall, possibly just to go and hang out there for a while. They didn't really have anywhere else to hang out honestly so he wasn't complaining. He just followed quickly after, not wanting to be left behind of course.
-------------------------
The mess hall lights were dim and everyone was now sitting at a long table having a conversation while Nick looked out of the window, the sun was beautifully setting and faded to an orange color, mixed with a slight blue and orange. He never thought he would be admiring something like this, but he had to admit it was pretty.
Nick was then brought out of his thoughts as he heard the familiar rumbling of a voice, Jacob. "Hey buddy, what'cha looking at out there? Anything interesting?" Jacob grinned as he looked at the shorter male. Nick had visibly sucked in a breath and shook his head with a small smile "Not really man, nothing you'd find to be interesting." He chuckled and looked out of the window once more, Jacobs eyes following his gaze "sunset?" He finally answered, or more asked really.
Nick nodded a little bit and looked down "yeah, It's pretty cool. I dunno." Jacob laughed a little at that "man, you have really been hanging around Abi a lot lately haven't you?" Nick could swear he could feel the others grin through his words.
"I suppose so, she really likes to sit by the sunsets and sketch something out, I'm not into the whole artsy thing but some of the scenery is actually pretty amazing." He said as he looked at Jacob, who initially just shrugged a little. He didn't quite know how to respond. It wasn't his passion or anything. "Whatever floats your boat I guess, Abi has some unique artistic ability, I've seen some of her sketches man. They look pretty cool, only if she drew dragons! and cool shit like that y'know?" Jacob laughed and Nick followed the laughter a little after with another nod "yeah, I mean, whatever she's passionate about man." He answered, standing up straight as he continued "how have you been, really, considering you were complaining about having to clean the campers mess earlier" he teased him as Jacob let out an exasperated huff "look, you can't blame me. And also you can't say that it was also very exhausting having to look after those brats all summer, like c'mon! You must be super immune to not have gotten annoyed once."
Nick sighed "yeah, You're right. I'll give it to ya this time, they were definitely a handful." He grinned, and looked back over to the group who were still talking amongst each other. Hell knows what they were saying. He didn't pay much attention, all his attention was honestly focused on Jacob, admiring the small features on his face, and his body a little. But he didn't want to seem like some creep so he quickly looked away and bit the inside of his cheek gently "I know I'm right! Can't deny such a thing I guess." Jacob said proudly.
Nick only shook his head a little and kept the grin, he was really stupid at times and that's what Nick liked about him. The other could be serious, but also have a sense of humor. He didn't take things as serious when never anticipated. And Nick liked that goofy side of him, it lit something up, like a candle.
Jacob then let out a big yawn and looked back over to the group, he must've been really exhausted by now. All the work that Mr Hackett had told them to do and left them with, just that thought alone also made Nick tired.
He had then saw Emma strut over and she didn't seem too happy, that was soon explained as she opened her mouth and began to talk "bad news, there isn't many beds here to sleep on and I'm not sleep in a dirty cabin after the campers. I don't know if they did something in there, and there is only limited beds here, Abi and I are in one bed, Dylan and Ryan agreed to another to sleep, Kaitlyn was stubborn and she gets a small cott to herself. You two are stuck together, no complaints because I really am not in the mood to hear it." He said, turning away suddenly, leaving the two boys there just to look at eachother then look away.
Nick finally decided to break the small silence that hovered between them "well then uhm... You okay with that?" He asked, looked at Jacob, who only shrugged and nodded "not my ideal idea of how this would turn out but I'm fine with it as long as you keep to your side of the bed" he joked, and Nick only nodded "maybe." He responded with a chuckle following after.
-----------------------
The sun was started to go down and the group of friends were getting tired, making their way out of the mess hall and where they were staying in small private cabins. They all said their goodnights and headed off, Nick was exhausted and Jacob seemed to be as well. Following one another quickly, anxious to get into the cabins and get to bed, because they couldn't last another minute awake really. It seemed to exaggeratedly kill them.
Jacob finally found the cabin where they were staying in and made his way inside quickly, Nick following inside not too long after and shut the door behind himself. Locking it as he turned to see Jacob taking his shirt off, he could have sworn he felt his face heat up suddenly to a bright red but kept quiet and looked away 'he must just sleep without a shirt.' Nick thought to himself as he forced his eyes away from the others body, making his way over to the bed and started to take off his shoes, then his own shirt until he was now left in only his boxers. He slept like that every night; and he could have sworn he felt a pair of eyes now staring at him.
Was Jacob seriously staring? He turned his head a little and low and behold the jock was actually staring at him. "Take a picture, it'll last longer" the famous quote. This only made Jacob clear his throat embarrassingly and say nothing after.
Nick suddenly felt the bed dip down a little bit signally that Jacob had joined him on the bed, taking off his own shoes and setting them somewhere in the room where he will remember where he put them. Taking off his socks as well, they were in fact pretty uncomfortable to sleep in anyway, so Nick did the same, throwing them with the rest of his clothes and where his shoes were.
He had finally got himself settled in on his side of the bed, shutting off his light as he got himself comfortable under the covers, the warmth of them embracing his body, he almost felt as if the warmth of the blankets weren't enough... No. He didn't want to make things weird with Jacob, he would probably call him a weirdo, or something if he made a move so suddenly. He still had the impression that Jacob was still deeply in love with Emma.
But also silently questioned it's he hasn't been seeing Jacob look at her like he always did, with lovey dovey eyes. He always tried to talk to her as well, and he wasn't doing that all lately, which sparked something in Nick when he was thinking to himself lying there. Did Jacob not like Emma anymore? He found that to be a small chance Jacob has had the biggest crush on her ever since they arrived here to help out. They had something going on between them but Emma said that it only was for the summer anyway.
He heard Jacob let out a grunt as he got into the covers as well, cradling himself in them to keep himself warm. This slightly pushed Nick closer to him, but no comment was made, a part of Nick actually thought he was doing this by purpose. He was always playing tricks or joking around with the others, seemed like something he would really do. So Nick decided to do the same, pulling the covers slightly harshly so the covers would push over to him, dragging the boy closer and closer, this went on until Jacob was now flush against Nick, their bodies collided as they shared warmth, and could have sworn that he felt the warmth in his face get worse. And the weirdest part was that Jacob didn't even move, he just lied there all the sudden. And then wrapped his arms around the smaller figure, pulling Nick close to him as he burry his face into the back of his neck, the last words until they both passed out;
"Goodnight Nick."
"Night.. Jacob."
