A long time ago, the dark elven sorcerer queen Ashterath sought to conquer the known world under her empire. Her armies had subjugated nearly half the continent of Theruna. An alliance of human, elven, and dwarven kingdoms united against her. The united armies soon liberated the conquered lands from her cruel grip, eventually marching their way to her fortress capital. As they laid siege to the capital, the sorcerer queen grew desperate…
Gathering her trusted council of mages, Ashterath decided to perform a dark ritual that would allow her to enter the Infernal Realms and ascend to daemonhood. However, she was betrayed by her own mages who saw defeat on the horizon and hoped to receive amnesty for their crimes against the realm. The mages closed the portals to the Infernal Realms, trapping Ashterath within the daemon world. Although she was trapped, the ritual had been a success as Ashterath was now a powerful Daemon Lord.
For a thousand years, Ashterath watched as events transpired in the mortal world. She found ways to meddle in mortal affairs, manipulating the desires of kings, knights, priests, and commoners alike. She soon amassed a great deal of influence and many loyal worshippers. One of her followers was a powerful mage who had found a way to summon his dark goddess back into the mortal realm…
