Chapter 1
Max
Steve had made his mind up a few days prior. He was tired. Don’t get him wrong he loved everyone around him. He had amazing friends, a perfect boyfriend, and a new found family that he adored
But Steve was tired. Waking up everyday felt like a chore. He didn’t want to move his body. He didn’t want to eat, or shower, brush his teeth, drink water, hell he didn’t even want to move his arms. Steve didn’t want to breathe anymore.
Steve was going to end his life tonight
He had decided to give up. He knew he was going to cause pain to the others, but they could always get over it. They’d grow and move on from him. They’d forget his memory eventually. Eddie would find a new lover, one who shared more interests with him
The kids would go to colleges and start families of their own. Steve wasn’t necessarily needed any longer. He knew he needed to do things before he went out though. He needed to get rid of some of this things
Thats why he’s where he’s at right now. Knocking on Max’s trailer door holding a cardboard box
Max opened the door squinting her eyes at Steve, the Sun slightly blinding her
“ Steve? What are you doing here?” She asked, eyeing him up and down
“ Hey max. I just came by to gift you some stuff. Can I come in? “ He asked, giving her a warm smile
She nodded before moving out of the way. The trailer was clean and well kept. It felt cozy. He walked and sat the box down on the coffee table
“ What is it? “ She asked looking at him, very skeptically if he knew her looks
“ Well I know you like oversized clothes and soft things. So I was cleaning out my closet and found a bunch of old sweaters I don’t wear any more. I wanted to see if you wanted them “ He said opening the box. He began pulling out various colors of sweaters
It wasn’t a total lie. He didn’t wear most of them now. But he wasn’t getting rid of them for a closet clean out. He just knew they’d being her comfort when he was gone
She made her way over. Slowly taking the sweaters in her hands, rubbing over the fabric. She looked at him and gave him a small grin
“ Are you sure I can have all these? They seem in great condition “ she questioned. Holding one of the sweaters close
“ Yea dude I’m sure. I don’t wear them anymore. I’d much rather you have them then them sitting in my closet catching dust “ he laughed watching her place them back in the box
She wrapped her arms around his waist in a tight hug. He gently hugged her back putting one hand on her head
“ You know I love you a lot Max. I couldn’t imagine a better little sister. Watching you grow up and become who you are has been amazing. Thank you for being a part of my life.” Steve said, he tried to not let his voice waver so much, he couldn’t get emotional now
Max looked up at him, her eyes slightly tearful
“ Geez Steve. What’s with the sappy speech? are you trying to make me cry?” She said laughing slightly, wiping her eyes
“ but I love you too Steve. I’m glad I met you too. A pretty great older brother” she grinned at him before picking up the box and going to her bedroom, emerging after a few minutes
“ Well I better get going. Have a couple errands to run “ he said stepping towards the door
“ Will I see you tomorrow? “ she asked as he reached for the door
Steve paused. His heart squeezed at the question. He felt himself swallow hard before turning to her giving her a smile
“ Yeah I’ll see you tomorrow Max. Have a good rest of your day “ he said, before pulling the door open and getting in his car
He took a deep breath. Tears stinging his eyes as he pulled out of the trailer park. This may be harder than he thought. But he had more stops to go to. And he had a set plan
The pain will be gone soon.
