Love in the Background

Summary:

In the public eye, Harry Styles is the single heartthrob that everyone wants a piece of. He’s a serial dater, never tied down for too long. Except that’s not the truth at all, quite the opposite actually. What the public and his fans don’t know is that he’s actually a happily married man with a 3-year-old kid and another on the way. And what they really don’t know is that he’s married to the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Louis Tomlinson. What happens when their closet door is thrown wide open and the whole world finds out the truth?

Notes:

New to fic writing and this will probably move terribly slowly. I hope you like it!

Chapter title comes from the song "The Luckiest" by the Josh Abbott Band.

Chapter 1: The Luckiest

Chapter Text

Harry is a very lucky man, and he knows it. It was luck when his parents relocated to Doncaster in 2010 and he had to start at a brand new school in the middle of the year. It was luck that he was running late on his first day and was basically sprinting through the hallway on the way to his first class. And it was luck that he was going the wrong way and ended up bumping into the most gorgeous boy he’d ever seen. Luck was on his side that day, and it seems that he’s been lucky ever since.

As Harry slowly woke up that morning, he was reminded just how lucky he is when he felt a warm arm wrap around his waist. He snuggled back into the embrace and let out a soft sigh, not yet ready to open his eyes. He was going to spend every minute he could in those arms until he had to go. He was leaving today and would be gone for months – so this time was precious and he wasn’t going to waste a second of it.

His luck continued when he felt that arm tighten around his waist, the hand splaying across his stomach, and warm lips being gently pressed to his neck.

“Good morning, darling,” the raspy voice that Harry has woken up to for the last six years whispered into his ear, sending a storm of shivers through his body.

Harry rolled over, finally getting a look at the sleep-rumpled face and striking blue eyes that he could never get enough of – his husband, his Louis, was too beautiful in the mornings and something just had to be done about it.

Instead of replying with a good morning of his own, Harry simply moved forward and pressed his lips gently against Louis’, pushing his thigh in between Louis’ legs and slowly grinding down. He was rewarded with a hand running through his long hair, tugging gently at his curls. Their kiss intensified, and Harry began to let his hands wander along Louis’ curves.

Just as Harry was starting to trail wet kisses across Louis’ chest, their bedroom door slowly creaked open. Harry dropped his forehead to Louis’ chest with a quiet groan of frustration, while Louis just let out a low chuckle.

“Daddy, Papa, can I come snuggle?”

Harry lifted his head and looked toward their 3-year-old son standing in the doorway. Jackson was the spitting image of Harry – boasting his unruly curly hair, bright blonde like his father’s was when he was his age, his broad nose and strong jaw already showing through. The only thing he seemed to possess from Louis’ gene pool were his insanely blue eyes, which were looking at them now, wide-eyed and hopeful. He had his favorite toy, a ragged old bunny with one eye and a ripped ear clutched tightly to his chest. He really just looked too adorable for words, and Harry was a sucker for cuddles with his boys.

“Go on, little love, get up here,” Harry rolled over, creating some space between himself and Louis for Jackson to crawl into.

As Jackson made himself comfortable, leaning into Louis’ side with his feet, clad in dinosaur footie pajamas, propped up in Harry’s lap, he launched into a rambling story about the dream he had last night. He spoke so quickly that Harry could barely keep up. As Jackson rambled away, Harry locked eyes with Louis and smiled. He really was so lucky.
