i guess i married a demon prince

Summary:

a story where u are forced to marry a demon prince to prevent a war between the human and demon realm and generally just lower the tension between the two powers.

From the moment you were born, you were bound to be used as a political tool due to the fact that you are a female. There was no doubt that you would be married off to a foreign kingdom to please them and it came as no surprise when your father brought it up to you one day. However what you didn't expect was that you would be married off to a prince from a demon kingdom.

Notes:

this chapter will mainly be about the backstory to my demon fantasy au. btw the reader has an emotion regulator quirk. for demons quirks they manifested early on in their creation but for humans it kinda just popped up a few generations ago so they were like ok ig now i can do this.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Centuries before you were born, there were demons and humans.

Their creation seemed to be at about the same time however, neither knew of the other's existence for hundreds of thousands of years until approximately 20 decades ago.

It all began when a human philosopher theorised the existence of several realms all existing in one place and to test this theory out, attempted to commune with these other supposed realms.

To everyone's surprise, the test worked and he received a message back from the different world. It took a long time to decipher but encrypted in the message was a way to send a message back to these mysterious beings. In the same place, demons began to study how to transport to this new world and thus began the makings of the first physical contact of humans and demons.

It did not go well...

Humans being well, humans, decided that these people with horns and fangs were dangerous and not to be messed with. Their unfounded fear began to spread as much as mothers sharing bedtime stories to their children of horrifying monsters with sharp claws and horns that would trick or purposefully mislead innocent humans for no reason other than their own amusement.

At first, the human leaders tried to assure them that demons might not be as dangerous as they initially believed. Perhaps, there was room for change on both the human's and the demon's behalf? Several meetings between exclusively humans (and no involvement of the demons obviously) had decided that demons were dangerous beings and (while generally not being given the feeling of welcome) should be granted fair access of the human world despite most humans holding bad feelings towards them.

Farmers thought of them to cause bad luck onto their crops. Sailors believed they caused bad winds or ruined fishing grounds. Wherever demons visited, negative sentiment was always there. Which brings us to around ten years ago, when you were eight, when the attacks happened.

A man with a fireball quirk attacked a demon in the early hours of the day. Immediately, reports came in of retaliation from demons and back and forth. Debates of whether or not the man was provoked or who's fault it was became a popular household discussion. More and more crimes were piled up on both sides. One notably of a demon prison escapee from a large gang escaped into the human realm through the help of a demon with a portal like quirk.

As tensions rose amongst the demons and humans, peace talks were finally held this time including the demons. The conclusion of the talks were that there needed to be unity among the leaders of both realms to reassure their peoples.

This is where you came in. Princess (name) of the (last name) family. Known for your quiet demeanour and docile attitude, you were not a royal many considered to be particularly popular or bratty. You were just kind of there. Those that knew you better than the general public would consider you resolute and well meaning. You cared about how others felt and did your best to make sure those clover to you were happy. You also had a huge admiration for your kingdom and wanted to do your very best to help it out however you could- despite being born a girl so your role for the kingdom was to be married off without a second thought to strengthen relations between kingdoms.

As much as you disagreed with the archaic customs, you knew there was little to be done about them as your stubborn father refused the idea of changing the rules. So you were forced to make peace with your fate and try and enjoy your freedom while you still had it.
