Chapter Text
When swim practice ended and everyone was heading outside, Paxton noticed that girl from his history class standing outside. Looked like she was waiting for someone. He assumed she was probably here for one of the other guys on the team until she said his name.
“You don't know me, but my name is Devi Vishwakumar.”
Was she about to offer to tutor him out of pity or something?
“I'm a sophomore. I sit behind you in history class.”
Cut to the chase Paxton thought as he watched her flounder. She was kinda cute when she rambled though.
“I was also paralyzed last year?” Right.
He knew who she was. This was the girl that was in a wheelchair last year after her dad died. Everyone knew that. Paxton just didn’t understand why they were talking to each other. He’s not dumb. He heard her when he walked into class and she said “Damn!” like it was a shock for a Junior to be repeating a Sophomore class. If it had been any other girl, Paxton would have assumed the damn was about, well, other things. Devi was one of those smart kids that talked in equations and got excited to answer questions in class. Shit, her and that condescending kid with the big eyes talked more than their teachers did. She wouldn’t think of Paxton the way most girls do.
“Oh, okay, great. You are familiar with that. So here's the thing. I'm into you.”
This was fully not going where Paxton expected. Girls are into him all the time. He’s hot, yeah, but aren’t smart people supposed be into other smart people? Like that condescending big eyed guy.
“Like, I could name every class you've had for the last two years.”
That’s kinda weird.
“But I won't do that.”
Probably for the best.
“And I know you'd never be my boyfriend,” Hold up, boyfriend? Paxton Hall-Yoshida is no one’s boyfriend.
“ because you're you, and I'm me,”
That bothered Paxton. Why was this super smart, kinda weird, girl ranking the two of them? Paxton didn’t want to be anyone’s boyfriend.
“but I was wondering if you would ever consider...h--having sex with me? Oh, my God. I'm such an idiot. I'm so sorry.”
Sex was definitely not pity tutoring. Why not? She was cute and sex was sex. Paxton never understood why that big eyed dude called Devi and her friends the UN. Calling anyone Unfuckable was pretty fucked up. So was their weird conversation before class today. Which reminded Paxton of that skirt Devi wore today. He was a teenage boy after all.
“Yeah.” Paxton finally said. “Okay.”
“What?” Devi seemed as confused as Paxton felt this entire interaction.
“Just sex, right?” Paxton could do that. So a cute girl that’s really smart wanted to have sex with him. Weird way to go about it but he didn’t see any reason not to. Paxton had sex with a lot of people who said a lot less. Most girls wanted more than just sex or hooking up. They wanted labels and more from him than he was willing to give.
“Just sex.” Devi confirms.
“I’m down, but I can’t tonight.”
“Wow, okay! Twist. This is surprising.”
And now Paxton’s not sure if her rambling excitement is a good sign or a bad sign.
“Looking forward to it. We’ll circle back about it.”
Now she wants to shake hands? Paxton knew girls were confusing but this was way weirder than he’s used to. Her big smile when they shake hands is kinda cute though.
