Chapter Text
Lina watched as Kaz emerged on the hill. The demon sat down next to the thief and made himself comfortable, placing a basket and its content on the soft grass.
"Light mead from Crystalia. Might be a little early, but I don't think that has stopped you," Kaz said, "I thought you might have needed it. "
Lina let out a small chuckle, "You're not half wrong, though I'm more interested in how you'd find it this early?"
"There are many things you can get away with by being purple. "
This time it was a singular, ugly laugh. Lina rocked herself back onto her legs and took a swig of the mead. Kaz followed. Alcohol was one of the things Kaz has only allowed itself into his life after meeting the group, not that Necropolis was lacking in it, but the pressure of keeping everything in place and the loneliness didn't leave him much space for such recreation.
There was a long moment of silence. Lina recast her gaze into the distance. Kaz tried to match the view, but struggled to find what Lina was looking at.
"Dragon was worried about you. "
Lina didn't respond. She took another sip and curled her knees into her arms. Still staring into the void.
That probably wasn't the best place to start.
"I'm here to listen if you wish to talk."
No response.
Kaz did not want to push Lina. Instead of thinking about the next opener, Kaz took his cape off and laid it out flat on the grass like a rug. He finished the last few gulps and then lied down on his back.
"You are welcome to join me if you please, " Kaz said, closing his eyes.
Soon, Kaz heard the shuffles of Lina joining him. The thief let out a relaxed sigh. The two rested under the warm sunshine and the gentle breeze for a while, before Lina finally spoke.
"So there's this story about a little girl who lived in a castle…"
