Work Text:
As the hot afternoon sun started to ease up over the town and give way to a cool breeze, Kiyoomi stood behind the bar. Glasses needed to be cleaned and dried and polished, bottles needed to be put back on the shelf, paperwork needed to be filled out. There was simply too much to do before people started arriving. It was the time after they opened but right before people began showing up to the saloon after work. Despite the fact that there is much to do now, and even more to do later in the day, Atsumu sat at the bar with his glass of water.
He has long since given up the façade of being there to drink alcohol from the saloon. He had wracked up a hefty tab over the first few weeks he came to town. At some point, Kiyoomi set down a glass of water in front of him and Atsumu didn’t even notice. As always, he was never there for the drinks. Rather, he was there for the man pouring them out.
He sat on his stool with his chin propped in his hand, swinging his legs, and watching Kiyoomi. Kiyoomi knew because he could hear his feet hitting the stool and the bar repeatedly.
“Omi, ‘m bored” Atsumu groaned loudly and overdramatically
“Sit still. You’re going to break my chair” Kiyoomi said without even turning around to look at him. “I’m sure there are much more exciting things outside the saloon that you could be doing, go do those things” Kiyoomi responded, finally turning to talk to Atsumu as he dried the glass in his hand.
“But yer here” he says, leaning his face on his hand as he looks at Kiyoomi with a smile. Kiyoomi feels his face warm and knows how red he must be, but he keeps a straight face.
“Shut up”
“What? You need complete silence while you dry the glass that's been dry for at least a minute now?” Atsumu says a bit too smugly. Kiyoomi puts the glass down maybe too harshly and glares at Atsumu. He picks up another glass and begins drying it, turning away from Atsumu again.
Atsumu sighs loudly.
“Will you come sit with me?” Atsumu asks
“Are you 5 years old and need supervision?” Kiyoomi responds, turning to look at him over his shoulder
“If I say yes will you come sit by me?” he raises his eyebrows as he asks
“No” Kiyoomi turns back around, paying attention to the glass he’s drying
“Then I'll just keep asking.” Atsumu says.
“I’m sure you will.” Kiyoomi responds.
“Come on omi, just for a couple minutes”
“Miya, I have a business to run, you know.”
“Mhm yea, I see that, look at all these customers you have to attend to immediately” Atsumu says, for effect he turns and motions over all the empty seats in the saloon. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes
“The saloon is still open dipshit” he responds
“You really know how to melt a mans heart omi” atsumu says, holding his hands over his heart and looking up at kiyoomi as he pretends to wipe a tear away.
“I try” he smiles a bit.
“Please come sit with me for just a minute? Please, please, please, please, please, ple-” Kiyoomi cuts him off by setting down the glass in his hand
“Fine” Kiyoomi says, throwing the towel over his shoulder and walking around the bar top. Atsumu sits up excitedly.
“That worked?” Atsumu scrunches his eyebrows up and watches kiyoomi walk.
“My patience has its limits”
Atsumu turns on his stool to look at Kiyoomi as he approaches him. He’s holding his bottom lip between his teeth to try and keep from smiling too big. He starts swinging his feet again, partly to annoy kiyoomi, and partly because he feels giddy.
“Hey darlin’” atsumu says, voice infinitely soft, as he looks up at him from his stool, looking very happy. Kiyoomi stops in front of the stool.
“What do you want?” Kiyoomi says with his arms crossed over his chest.
“You” atsumu says without missing a beat. Kiyoomi puts his foot up on one of the rungs of Atsumus barstool and leans down slightly. Atsumus eyes widen a bit and he tilts his head up to look kiyoomi in the eye.
“How so?” Kiyoomi asks, looking down at atsumu.
“this works, I’d like ya any way truthfully” Atsumu responds after regaining his composure and has a smug little smile on his face. Kiyoomi leans down till they’re just a breath apart and Atsumu’s eyes flutter closed.
“You’re insane” Kiyoomi whispers, their lips nearly touching. using his foot that is on the rung of Atsumus chair, he pushes it over and sends him careening to the ground before he has time to react. Atsumu lets out a little scream as he hits the ground and Kiyoomi turns to walk back behind the bar.
“You’re insane if you think I am kissing you in the saloon when it is open and anyone could walk in at any moment. I have a reputation to uphold ya know” Kiyoomi says as he rounds the corner behind the bar. He hopes Atsumu doesn’t pick up on the fact that he didn’t deny wanting to kiss Atsumu and that it was more of a time and place issue. Atsumu is still on the floor sitting up now, leaning back on his hands as he looks up at kiyoomi on the other side of the bar
“Oh really?”
“Yes really”
“So you’d kiss me if the saloon were closed” Atsumu says, smirking up at him from the ground.
“Did you hit your head and knock something loose?” Kiyoomi asks, avoiding the question as his face turns pink.
“Nah, I always see stars when ‘m around you” Atsumu says, still giving Kiyoomi the same look.
“God that was so cheesy” Kiyoomi scrunches his nose up at Atsumu.
“You still didn’t answer my question” He asks. Kiyoomi looks away and mumbles something, his face feels like it's on fire.
“Didn’t quite catch that darlin’” Atsumu says, still looking up at Kiyoomi.
“I said ‘maybe’” he grumbles, and he knows atsumu is looking at him with a shit eating grin.
“Mmkay” Atsumu hums in response, and kiyoomi turns to look back at him and finds him already looking at him, his eyes full of love and admiration as he smiles up at him.
“Get off the floor before someone sees you and thinks I tried to kill you” Kiyoomi says to Atsumu before turning back to his glasses that still need to be cleaned.
“Whatever you want, omi” Atsumu says and Kiyoomi can hear the smile in his voice. He knows he means it in this moment and beyond the walls of this saloon.
