HEARTBLEED | jakehoon

Summary:

The second semester of Jake's university has just started, leaving him exhausted the first days in.
He recognizes Sunghoon, the boy from room 103, as an old classmate who he went to high-school with for nearly 3 years.
He has always thought of him of a weird kid, someone who'd easily be made fun of.
Even now, as Sunghoon's presence changed into a more quiet and mature one, he notices the same strange way of behaving as it was back in high-school.
Though a first encounter with the boy, whom he has only seen from afar, made Jake realize that he wasn't the respected and feared student he thought he was. Sunghoon being the only exception.
However, he sure would find a way to show him the unspoken rules he created that everyone followed without a second thought, and it wouldn't be an easy one...

Chapter 1: First Words

Chapter Text

The tapping of a pencil on someone's notebook, the ticking of the room's clock and the rough and hoarse voice of the professor explaining today's topic, the economic development of South Korea, disrupted the silence Jake craved so much. Every syllable that left Mr. Choi's mouth caused his mind to drift further away from reality. He just wanted to get today over with.
"Hyung, can you pass me your white-out?" Sunoo, Jake's friend whispered, leaning closer. "My what?" He sighed, sounding more annoyed than intended. "Your Tippex- please?" Jake gave him a quick glance before searching his pencil case, pulling out a small correction roller. "There's no way you're actually listening to this shit." He slides it to Sunoo. "Thanks- I mean, we're here for a reason, right? I don't want to waste my time by just sitting here... besides, we won't ever leave this place without learning and writing good grades either way." Knowing damn well how right Sunoo was- alot of times actually- Jake shrugged, playing it cool. "Tch. Nerd."
There was one thing admitting to be wrong, but making others feel superior by giving them right and agreeing? That was one thing he surely did not want to do.
Generally, Jake couldn't stand others being right, especially when he'd be the one left to be the clueless idiot. Specifically with some smarty pants like Sunoo, who'd turn every comment he'd make into a life lesson or a lecture. It ruined his mood to the point where he had to fight his thoughts of gving him the bloody punch in the face that he deserved. Or so he felt.

After 10 more minutes of listening to an old hag dumping his knowledge onto his poor students, the bell to lunch break finally rang.
Quickly, Jake grabbed his bag and binder, skipping out of the room. Without expecting the air to be as stuffy and gross as it was, he inhaled, leaving him to shake his head in disgust. It was nearly as bad as the boys locker room after PE, he thought while taking a good look around.
There wasn't much going on: a few students in groups here and there, some people hurrying out of classrooms, just as he did. And a teacher opening the windows- despite the cold rain splattering against the glass. "3 more hours to go.." He whispered to himself while heading down the stairs.

While passing a group of girls, 2 of them gave him a quick glance followed by quiet talking. He knew they didn't just gossip like they would about any other given student. They were deeply respecting him and his status as a bully and troublemaker known around the campus. He wasn't a guy to be messed with after all.
Feeling a slight bit of pride and superiority, he couldn't help but show a small mischievous grin. It felt great to be respected like that, other than being known as 'the one hot guy' from room 106.

Easily hopping down the last stair, like a rabbit into a clovery field, he made his way to the rows of lockers of which one was his own. One with a Nirvana bumper sticker. He had placed it himself the day the semester began.
Though, walking straight ahead with his locker as his target in mind, a boy bumped into him. The collision with their heads caused him to drop his binder in shock as he backed off a few steps. He seriously didn't see anyone coming towards him or approaching him: it was as if the yet so tall figure just appeared out of nowhere, like out of a wormhole to another universe. It was always these wild excuses before considering himself to just be a little clumsy, while also not paying enough attention to his surroundings.
"Watch where the fuck you're going! Oh my God." He rubbed his head with a quiet hiss, glancing up. It was no other than pretty boy Sunghoon, holding his hand over his nose due to affliction.
Jake paused and stared at Sunghoons sore and damaged hand from what had seemed like working with something raw or sharp. He sighed.
"Hm, I didn't see you there..." He moves his hand from his face and picks up the folder. "My bad, sorry."
"If I was you I'd worry about your disgusting looking hands instead of walking into other's ways." Jake scoffs, reaching for his binder. "You noticed my hands? You're right, they're a bit chewed up right now." The other smiled with a soft chuckle, staring at his delicate fingers. "But I guess both of us have something to work on then. You have bad eye sight. Am I right, nibs?" He says happily, followed by a laughter sweeter than a birds songlike chirping, while pressing the binder into Jake's chest.
Dumbfounded, he stared at Sunghoon finally walking around the corner he just came from.

What did he just call him? Jake grew more infuriated the longer he thought about it. He really dared to have the nerve, calling THE Sim Jaeyun not only blind, but using demeaning terms like that for him. He wouldn't- at any cost- let that slide.
Angrily he stuffed his binder into his locker and rushed off into the cafeteria, silently hoping nobody had seen the humiliating incident. With a glance at his usual table he spotted Nicholas, a close friend of his. Without hesitation he sat with him, throwing his bag under the table.
"What's up?" Nicholas raised his head at him. "You look kind of mad."
"You need to help me with someone." Jake muttered between gritted teeth, already thinking of ways to make Sunghoon regret his words.
