Jaemin was woken up by the sun's rays peeking through the blinds, a signal that morning had already arrived. Specifically, a sunny Wednesday morning. For everyone else, it may be just another typical day, but for Jaemin, today is particularly special compared to any other day in the calendar. Anything that has to do with or is relevant to Hendery is obviously special to him.
He stretched his body a little as a yawn slipped out of his mouth. When he rolled to his side to reach for his boyfriend, he was met by the cold, empty space where the other had once been. Jaemin, who was puzzled, grabbed his phone from the side table and looked at the time. On the screen, 10 a.m. was displayed in big bold font. That explains why there wasn't a figure lying next to him; he woke up later than usual.
A small pout made its way onto his face. He was saddened that he wouldn't get to see Hendery first thing in the morning. He was even planning to shower Hendery's face with kisses to wake the latter up. Well then, I have to shower him with kisses once he gets home. His lips curled into a small smile as he imagined Hendery’s flustered face. Besides that, he still needs to plan one more surprise. He stretched up one last time before getting up from their bed and making his way to the bathroom to freshen up.
After he was done with his usual morning routine, he headed downstairs and went straight to the kitchen to begin preparing his surprise. Despite not knowing how to cook and lacking the skills to do so, he planned to make him a simple chocolate cake and prepare his favorite meals.
Either it will be a success or a big failure. But he wouldn't know unless he tried, right? It's the thought that counts, Jaemin. He gave himself a pat on the head. You'll do well.
It's a known fact that Hendery is an extroverted person by nature, but recently, Jaemin found that social interactions drain the hell out of Hendery because of his current job, which requires him to meet and interact with a lot of people every day. As a result, Jaemin made the decision to change up their usual celebration, which usually includes a party with friends and family, in favor of just the two of them celebrating together in their little home.
Jaemin began gathering all the things he would need, arranging them all together in one place, and then proceeded to grab his iPad to watch a tutorial. Since this was his first time baking a cake, he was silently hoping and praying that at the very least it would be edible enough to be eaten.
It continued for hours and hours as Jaemin moved from one side of the kitchen to the other, getting different kinds of ingredients and equipment he would be using. And at last, after he had finished adding the final decoration to the cake, he was done.
He examines the cake, which is covered in Hendery's favorite pink color. The word "happy birthday" was surrounded by little red heart drawings in the center of the cake that he put so much effort into doing. Jaemin is beyond satisfied and happy with the outcome. Good job, self.
He set aside the cake for the time being and went to the living room. Tiredness finally hit Jaemin as he dropped down on the couch to take a little rest. He pulled his phone out of his pocket to check the time and saw that it was already late in the day.
Suddenly, his stomach started to grumble out of hunger. He was so engrossed in making the cake and the food that he forgot to eat. He closed his eyes and took some time to rest before getting up to get something to eat.
Hendery sighed audibly for what seemed to be the tenth time today as soon as he arrived at the front door of their apartment. Nothing would make him happier than to go off to rest in his bed with Jaemin in his arms. After all, he had a long day.
He unlocked the door after punching the passcode for their apartment, the beeping sound echoing through the hallways. He was greeted by darkness and stillness as soon as he arrived at their house, which made him tilt his head in confusion. Usually, you can hear the television running in the background and see that the lights are open in the entryway.
He shrugged the thought off and removed his shoes before walking into the living room. At that exact moment, he found Jaemin standing there holding the cake in front of him, looking at him with a face full of love and admiration while a huge smile was plastered on the younger's face.
“Surprise! Happy Birthday, love.” Jaemin then walked up to him slowly while singing "happy birthday." Hendery can't help but mirror Jaemin’s smile. He can't believe he almost forgot his birthday. Hendery feels so overwhelmed, in a good way, and his heart feels so full. It feels as though it will explode at any moment from the love and happiness it is filled with.
As soon as Jaemin finished the song and was finally in front of him, Hendery questioned, "You made all of these by yourself?" gesturing everything from decorations to the cake his boyfriend was holding. Jaemin nodded, feeling proud of himself for pulling off such a surprise by himself.
"Go on, close your eyes and make a wish." Jaemin said with a smile.
Hendery put his bag down and smiled warmly at his boyfriend before closing his eyes and clasping his hands together. I wish that moments like this could last forever. He took a peek and saw Jaemin eagerly waiting for him to finish. And I also wish for my Jaemin’s happiness. For our happiness.
Opening his eyes, Hendery blew out the candle.
After carefully setting the cake down on the table, Jaemin turned to face Hendery while holding out his arms in an open invitation to hug him. Hendery embraced the younger without hesitation, while Jaemin whispered a series of "happy birthdays," praises, "you did well," and "i love yous" to him.
"Thank you so much." Hendery said as soon as he pulled away from the hug. He placed both of his hands on either side of Jaemin's face and kissed him on the forehead, saying, "I love you," before giving him another quick kiss on the lips.
Jaemin responded, "I love you too," and then proceeded to shower him with kisses all over his face. Small fits of giggles and laughter followed soon after as they held onto each other's arms.
