Chapter Text
"We don't have to do this if you don't want to."
"It's ok Frederica…. I'm just a little embarrassed"
"Oh darling don't worry, nobody is watching us, we'll just blend into the crowd!"
"You say that, but Lennenkampf probably has his agents filming us live on camera! In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we became Kaiser Reinhard's personal romantic comedy"
Frederica chuckled at her husband's remark. It had been only a couple months since they were married, but for her, those couple months were the most wonderful and enjoyable months of her life. Every day with her dorky husband was a well lived day.
They stood on the sidewalk, holding hands on the crowded sidewalk. Yang's face blushed bright red as he held his wife's hand. His mind was jumbling around, like popcorn kernels popping in a frying pan. History may have recalled him as a tactical genius, but love, and romance simply weren't the kinds of things that you could strategize on a whim.
It wasn't like Frederica was any better as there was a flush of red on her cheeks. Although a little more knowledgeable than her husband, she too for the most part had only the vaguest idea of what she was supposed to do. She looked up at her husband’s cute yet puzzled face and smiled. Yang gave the faintest little smile that he could with his puzzled and redden face. The two were looking forward to this nice night out. After all, it was the first time that they ever were able to go out on a nice little date like this, as they were usually stopped by Imperial Soldiers. Or they simply just wanted to spend the night relaxing on the couch and watching a movie, or a couple historical documentaries. Frederica was always fascinated by how Yang managed to pick apart the historical inaccuracies. It seemed like no movie or documentary was safe from her husband’s expansive knowledge of the subject.
As they walked down the busy streets, they caught a glimpse of the soft white neon sign that they were looking for. The Moon Bean café was a quiet little joint that just opened about a year ago. It was never too busy, but it always seemed to have its fair share of regulars. Although they were mostly known for their rich and creamy coffee, their tea was also a highlight, because of their unique blend. The place was also licensed, which excited the not-so-alcoholic Yang. The newlyweds were excited to finally check out what all of the fuss was about.
The couple entered the quiet low-lit joint. The inside was lit up softly. It wasn't too dark, but at the same time it wasn't too bright. Rather than having your typical set-up, they had barstools and booths, as if the place was trying to replicate the bars and pubs from long ago. The menu was written up on a large chalkboard, and although the drinks were a bit more on the pricey end, they weren't too expensive to the point where one would question their financial decisions. The food that they offered looked quite interesting too, with them offering many different pastries both sweet or savoury. The environment the place had was definitely a dreamy one that fit the name. After ordering, and receiving their drinks, the newlyweds went to sit in a quiet little booth that was away from all of the chit-chat and commotion that was near the bar end.
"So darling, what would you want to do, now that we have a little bit of peacetime to enjoy?"
"I doubt it will last any longer than about a year Frederica, not to mention with these imperial soldiers on our asses every second, I doubt we'll be able to do much before war inevitably breaks out again"
"I get that, but I was thinking, lets just say after the war is officially done and over with for good, that it would be nice to go on a proper honeymoon, without having to worry about anyone on our asses."
"That would be nice, but where would you want to go?"
"El facil. Where we first met. Where you saved millions of civilians, and myself. You'd probably be seen as a celebrity there, but as long as we keep a low profile, and don't go to all of the popular tourist attractions, I think it would be a nice place to go. We could rent out a little cottage and just spend the days relaxing at the beach, fishing, whatever you or I want!"
A bright smile lit up her face, and for this little moment, Yang seemed to forget the inevitable war that was looming over them in the coming months.
"Yeah, that would be really nice. Although it would also be nice to just lay low here on Heinessen too. In fact it might be a bit safer for us to stick around here, just in case some vengeful assassins were to come after us."
"I would shoot them before they'd even lay a finger on you darling."
Yang struggled to say something. His mind short-circuited as he tried to come up with something to say to her. In the end he decided that the best course of action in this case would be to give a little laugh.
"What is it darling?"
"Oh it's nothing."
"Do you not think I'd be able to protect you?"
"No, no, no it's not that at all! I just didn't know how to reply.."
Yang's face started to flush up again, as he revealed a little embarrassed grin.
"I love you darling"
"I love you too, Frederica."
The couple gazed into each other's eyes and enjoyed the little second of tenderness that they were presented with. For a short flicker, they were freed from the growing ambition for war, and revolution that was brewing up on Heinessen, and could simply just be themselves for a second. They both took a sip from their tea and relaxed into the present moment.
