Work Text:
Trevor slowly opens the door to find Pete with the blanket over his head, shielding himself from the brightness seeping in from the window. Pete looked so peaceful from what Trevor could see, which made him feel conflicted on whether or not he should wake him up. He finally decided it was late enough and he didn’t want Pete to miss any fun he played for the both of them to have today, besides he did let Pete sleep in while he was busy. Trevor gently sits down next to Pete and rubs his arm.
“Good morning sunshine,” Trevor says softly to a slowly waking Pete. He smiles at him when he finally uncovers his face. Pete mumbles something and Trevor just chuckles. “I have a surprise for you when you’re fully awake.”
Trevor kisses Pete’s forehead and leaves the room, leaving Pete to take his time to wake up. Which doesn’t take long because Pete follows not that far behind Trevor into their kitchen. Pete stands by the toaster as he waits for his bagel to toast. Trevor sneaks up behind him and wraps his arms around his waist, resting his head on Pete’s shoulder.
“I know what you’re trying to do and it’s not going to work dear,” Pete says lightheartedly. He kisses Trevor’s cheek and pulls his bagels out of the toaster, batting Trevor’s hand away as he reaches for his bagel. Pete decides to give in and let Trevor take one half of his bagel. “So what’s this surprise you have for me.”
“I’m not gonna tell you, it’s called a surprise for a reason. You’re just gonna have to wait and see,” Trevor chuckles. He’s always found Pete cute whenever he wants to know what he has planned. They sit and eat their breakfast as they listen to the bustling reminder of life outside their open window. After they finish, Trevor grabs the grocery bags he had poorly hidden in the other room.
“I thought maybe we could bake something together since I know how much you enjoy stuff like that,” Trevor says, a faint blush dancing on his cheeks. They way Pete lights up says it all, which makes Trevor feel all giddy inside. Pete hugs up tight and bounces excitedly.
“Yes yes a thousand times yes! I’d love to bake with you!” Pete excitedly says while still hugging Trevor. Excitement must be contagious, Trevor thinks to himself, because he’s really excited. They both quickly get to work cleaning off the counters and table. Trevor takes out the items he got at the store, which consists mostly of fall cutouts and icing colors.
What they did could hardly be counted as serious baking, or close to baking, but it’s the memories that count. Most of their time is spent dancing around the kitchen to the music they have playing or getting spices on each other. Or in one case, a particularly nasty flour fight that ended up with Trevor looking like a ghost and the floor needing to be cleaned. But in the end, they made some damn good cookies. Trevor watched as Pete iced some of the leaves and listened to him talk about different types of leaves and trees. His nature facts would never cease to amaze Trevor and Pete always found how sweet Trevor was whenever he listened to him ramble about stuff like this. Trevor iced a couple cookies, but was more interested in painting his boyfriend with the icing instead. The smiles that was shared and the laughter that was had was worth it though. And at the end of it all, it was the fun that matter.
