Work Text:
Everyone from the House of Lamentation, Purgatory Hall, and the castle had been excited about the Horror Parade, Diavolo’s answer to the human world tradition of Trick-or-Treating. Solomon’s unintentionally soporific cookies had put everyone to sleep for a short while, so there was a huge rush once everyone woke up to get out in time to see all the cool costumes and collect the best treats before they were all gone.
You got caught up in it, too, because it really was quite a lot of fun. You went or were dragged from one group of your friends to another, and it helped you put the strange dream you’d just had almost completely out of your mind.
You ran out of steam before everyone else. Demons, especially these ones, had far more energy than you did.
Except Belphie, of course.
“You look beat. Want to head back home?”
“You must be reading my mind, Belphie.” he gave you a cute little smile that looked a little…mysterious. Then again, he did that a lot. It was a Belphie thing, nothing to worry about. “I’ll let the others know…”
He put his hand over your DDD before you could send out your message.
“Already taken care of. We’re good to go.”
It was presumptuous of him to assume that you wanted to head home and tell everyone before you had the chance to do it, but that was another Belphie thing. You were resigned to it by now, so you simply shook your head and rolled your eyes a bit before turning in the direction of the house.
“It’s really crowded. Better hold my hand so we don’t get separated.”
There was no point in telling him that you really, truly knew the way back to the house. He was making those cute flirty eyes, so you just went along with it.
Not that you didn’t like holding hands with him. Quite the opposite. You just didn’t want to look eager and make him feel cocky.
The closer you got to home, the more the crowd thinned out. The sounds of the celebration were still audible in the distance, but soft enough that you heard Belphie clearly when he told you, “What I said in your dream was true, you know.”
You stopped abruptly and glared at him. “Why were you spying on my dreams?”
He shrugged. “Couldn’t help it. When you dream about me, it’s almost like you drag me in.”
“Oho, don’t try to pin this on me, sloth-boy!” You wagged a finger at him to show that you were genuinely trying to reprimand him, but he didn’t take you seriously, wrapped his arms around your waist, and pulled you close.
He bent his head into the crook of your neck and began giving you a recap, punctuated by the softest of kisses.
“I asked you to give yourself over to me. You said, ‘Anything for you, Belphie,’ and I said, ‘Good. That makes you mine and mine alone. We’ll be together forever. You’re OK with that, right?’ and I knew that you were just about to say yes before you got interrupted, right?”
It was hard to contradict him when you’d responded to his attentions by holding him closer and running your hands all over his back. Still, you didn’t want to make it too easy for him.
“Everyone else was in that dream, too, you know…”
“Yeah, but I was the one you really wanted.”
You laughed, but it didn’t deter him from the fondling and kissing.
Few things ever did. Because you really did love him, and he knew it.
Still…”The dream contest was to live with me for a year.”
“That’s not enough,” Belphie said, taking a moment away from sucking on your earlobe.
He’d won. There was only so long that you could tease him about not wanting him absolutely, completely, for always.
“You’re right. It’s not.”
He completely stopped moving. Then he straightened up and looked into your eyes so intensely that you could see the tears gathering in his lit by the moon.
“Do you mean it? I mean, do you really mean it this time? You’re not saying it just to stop me from pestering you?”
“You know I mean it, you asshole. Now tell me you love me before I take it back.”
He cupped your face in both hands and said, “I love you. I want to be with you forever. Do you really want to spend forever with me, too?”
“I do, Belphie. I really do.”
He kissed you for…a very long time. You didn’t mind it a bit.
When the kiss was finally over, he grinned slyly, “Want to start forever tonight in your room?”
You grinned back, grabbed his wrist to drag him inside, and asked, “What are we waiting for? Let’s do this!”
The laughing stopped once you were alone inside, and Belphie gave you a delicious taste of what it would be like to be with him every night.
Some dreams do come true.
