Work Text:

Jungkook had tried to keep it hidden, he really did, but there’s only so many excuses he could make before he was forced to come clean.

_____

Jk-ah,” Seokjin called out from the kitchen. “What would you like to eat for dinner?”

Jungkook raises his head from where he’s laying on the couch and wipes at the drool that was at the corner of his mouth. He’s been feeling exhausted since The Incident, and the idea of eating his hyung’s delicious food makes him feel nauseous.

“Ah… hyung, I’m not-”

Seokjin rounds the corner, entering the seven member’s shared living space. He takes a look at Jungkook’s face and seems to notice something strange, stepping closer to the couch Junkook is draped over.

“Are you feeling alright, Jungkook?” Seokjin feels the youngest’s forehead, taking note of how pale he looks. Immediately pulling his hand back, Jungkook watches the worry cloud Seokjin’s face as he continues to look over the maknae’s face. “You’re freezing! Why are you so cold? You know we hate it when you don’t take care of yourself, Jungkook-ah. Do you need me to call someone? Your doctor maybe? I can call one of the managers-”

“No! No,” Jungkook raises himself up, trying to get away from Jin’s touch. “I’m just… I’m tired, hyung. I just need sleep.”

Seokjin narrows his eyes, puffing his cheeks out slightly as he takes in the bags under Jungkook’s eyes. He steps back and reaches in his back pocket for his phone, but before he could pull his hand back Jungkook’s hand is already grasping his wrist. Seokjin makes a note of how cold his hand is.

“Seriously JK, at least let me make you some stew, it’ll be good for you.” Jungkook’s stomach does a flip (whether it’s his caring hyung or the idea of food doesn’t matter) as he lets go of the other’s wrist. He stands up quickly as he tries his best not to sway from the nausea. He hugs Jin, always seeking some comfort from his hyung. Jin wraps his arms around Jungkook and begins to rub up and down, knowing how the youngest member always wanted some physical touches to ease his worries.

“I ate earlier hyung,” Jungkook mumbles into the other’s shoulder and he inhales deep, “but it didn’t settle with me right. I’m just too nauseous to eat again. I’m sorry for worrying you.”

-

“What do you mean you can’t go out? It’s our first day off in weeks, Jungkook. Let’s go enjoy the day!” Jin watches as Jungkook stretches after practice, who has his back turned to the rest of the members. They all raise a brow at both of them, but Jin just nods and they all take the hint and step out of the room. “It’ll be good to get some sun after being stuck in the practice room every day.”

Jungkook doesn’t reply straight away, opting to sigh and lay on his back. Jin bites his tongue, not wanting to comment on how pale he’s been looking recently again. He sits on the floor next to Jungkook and looks at their reflections in the mirror.

The younger man suddenly bolts upright and jumps to his feet, startling Jin.

“Sorry, hyung, I already have plans for tomorrow!” Jungkook makes his way around the practice room quickly, grabbing all his belongings. He quickly changes out of his boots into some more comfortable slides, and slides his jacket on.

“Oh, that’s ok! Are you free for dinner at least?” Jin tries not to sound disappointed, but he can’t help feeling sad. Jungkook picks up the last of his things and opens the door to the studio.

“It’s an all day thing, hyung, I probably won’t be back until late,” Jin nods and stands too. He grabs all his belongings as well and follows Jungkook out of the room.

“Well, at least make sure you eat and spend some time outside. You’ve been looking worn out recently from working so hard, you don’t want to get sick right before a show.”

Jungkook laughs at that.

“I won’t get sick, I promise.”

“Can you promise you’ll actually go outside tomorrow?” Jin asks, and he notices how Jungkook starts to fidget. He does that when he’s nervous, sways from side to side and plays with the piercing on his lip. “Jungkook, please. If you’re not practicing here in the studio you’re holed up in your room. Please get some fresh air tomorrow.”

“I have to work on music tomorrow hyung, I can’t go out. Hopefully we’ll be able to go out soon.”

-

“Hey JK! Do you wanna work out together tonight? My trainer keeps bothering me about my routine and I-'' Seokjin pauses as he catches sight of the maknae in the shadows of his room. It’s dark, thanks to Jungkook’s black out curtains he purchased months ago and all the lights in the room being off. He can just barely make out the maknae’s figure and watches as his back moves up and down as he breathes. But something feels off and it makes Seokjin feel scared. He runs his hand over the wall as he tries to find the light switch, and when he does flip the light on he has to fight the urge to run out.

Jungkook sits in the middle of the room, with his back to the door. Seokjin was right about where he sat, and he was right about the way Jungkook’s breathing was heavier than normal. It seems almost like Jungkook had run a marathon with the way his body moves, like he’s gasping for air. Seokjin looks around and sees all of Jungkook’s clothes strewn around the room and that’s how he knows something is wrong.

“Are you-” Seokjin’s voice cracks and any other time he would have laughed, but with the way Jungkook’s head snaps to the side, not quite looking at him yet clearly indicating he’s listening, he simply clears his throat. “Are you feeling alright, Jungkook-ah?”

The youngest doesn’t answer immediately, he simply takes another heaving breath before he bows his head down to the floor, covering his face with his hands.

“Why are you here?” Seokjin has to strain to hear what he said. Cautiously, Seokjin takes a step further into the room but stops when he sees Jungkook’s body tense even more.

“Um… I did some cardio earlier, but my trainer-” Jungkook rises to his feet and rushes to the door. Seokjin stumbles back and the door is slammed in his face.

“Sorry! I’m sorry hyung,” Jungkook sounds like he’s in tears, babbling apologies to his hyung.

“Jungkook, what the hell? Open the door,” Jin tries to open the door but it’s locked. He’s trying not to panic, knowing that if he freaks out it won’t help the maknae that’s clearly having a breakdown.

“No! No hyung, you need to go, I’m sorry!” Another sob breaks Jungkooks’ sentence and Jin is torn. He knows he could go to Namjoon to get the emergency master key, but he’s not sure if it’s a good idea.

“Hey, it’s alright, I won’t bother you, but please tell us what’s wrong Jungkook.” Jin can only hear Jungkook crying on the other side, and he can feel a lump in his throat beginning to form. He hates not being able to help him, hates feeling so useless when one of his members is in distress. He breathes deeply in an effort to calm himself, and knocks on the door again.

Please, Jungkook, open the door. We don’t have to talk, I just want to make sure you’re okay.” His voice is shaky, he knows, but he needs to let Jungkook know he’s there to support him. Jungkook’s cries quiet down, and he hears some shuffling inside. There’s a thud on the door but it doesn’t open.

“I just need to be alone now, hyung. Please leave me alone.”

-

“So what was it you wanted to hold a meeting about, Jungkook-ah?”, Namjoon asked as he settled on the couch. The rest of the members took their respective seats around the living room, with Jungkook standing in the middle.

“I’m a vampire.”

A tense silence falls over the six men as they all glance at each other. Truth be told they had a feeling he would… come out, but not as a vampire. Jimin was the first to breach the tension.

“So you suck people’s blood now?” Jungkook’s face would turn red if it could, but he settled for putting his head in his hands.

“Technically, but… um..” he trails off, looking down at his feet. “But I haven’t. Not yet, at least.” All the members looked at each other again, trying to gauge how they should react.

“How long have you.. you know… been a vampire?” Namjoon asks, taking the lead. He’s sitting with his arms on his knees, and he has his brows furrowed. He’s clearly thinking about the future, how this will affect their schedules, their music, their dynamic as a whole. Yoongi sits beside him, Jimin sits on Namjoon’s other side with Taehyung sitting on the floor in front of him. Jin is sat on an armchair off to the side, and Hobi is sat opposite him in another armchair. They all look at Jungkook curiously, but they all have worried expressions.

“A month, a month and a half maybe?” They all gasp, but Namjoon’s frown deepens. Jungkook hangs his head, knowing how much the members hate when the others keep secrets, especially if it’s a secret that affects the group as a whole.

“Wait,” Yoongi says. He’s sitting up now, copying Namjoon’s posture. “Do you mean you haven’t… eaten? In a month?” The other members seem to put the pieces together, and while some of them look shocked and a little sad, the others look angry. Jin especially looks upset.

“I have! I have!” Jungkook says, putting his hands up defensively. “Just.. not human blood.” The members look confused now, but Jin is still frowning at him. Jungkooks sighs and begins to explain.

“Well, I just bought some frozen pork blood at the market, and then I went to a butcher to ask for some blood from them. But I thought it would be weird if I went there constantly, so..” he trails off, looking around the room at all his hyungs.

“So animal blood works just like human blood?” Taehyung asks. Jungkook knows he must have a million questions, knowing how Tae is when he’s faced with new experiences. He looks excited about the whole situation, but he’s clearly restraining his curiosity for the sake of everyone else. Jimin whispers above him, “Well, humans are animals, technically.” Taehyung just nods at that, like Jimin just gave him the answer to every question he’s ever had.

“Um, I’m not sure actually,” Jungkook admits. “The blood I had didn’t really quench the thirst I had, and it made my stomach ache. I think I just have to get used to it. Develop a taste for it, you know?” Hoseok looks like he’s about to faint in his seat, and Jin is still silent where he sits.

“I don’t think animal blood will keep you fed, Jungkook,” Yoongi speaks up again. “There’s different components between animal blood and human blood. It could be that you need what human blood has specifically to stay alive.” They all look at Yoongi again, but he just shrugs.

“It’s basic biology,” he states. Taehyung is looking at him like he hung the stars in the sky.

“But in Twilight they were vegetarians,” Jimin adds. Taehyung looks up at him again, smiling widely.

“Well does Jungkook sparkle in the sun? We can find out more about him if he’s similar to Twilight vampires. Jungkook, do you have any powers?”

“Okay, hang on. We can deal with feeding later,” Namjoon says. He stands from his seat and goes to stand next to Jungkook. “We need to figure out what Jungkook can and can’t do. Have you tested if you can withstand sunlight?” Jungkook nods and opens the curtains enough to let a stream of sunlight in. He puts his hand in the light and holds it there. He doesn’t sparkle (which earns a grumble from Jimin), and he doesn’t seem to be in pain. When he closes the curtain again, he holds his hand up again but it’s not burned, just slightly tanned.

“I think with sunscreen I should be fine, it just looks like I spent some time in direct sunlight.” They all nod, relieved that Jungkook will still be able to go out during the day.

“Do you appear in mirrors? Cameras?” Hoseok asks, finally speaking up. Jungkook nods at him, pulling out his phone and taking a selfie. He shows the members, and they all giggle at the cute picture.

“He appears in mirrors too,” Jin says, remembering that night in the practice room, “so he’s still able to function like a normal person.” Jungkook grins in his direction, and Jin’s heart clenches as he thinks that Jungkook, the sweet maknae that he watched grow up, is a vampire now. He looks away, trying not to think about what that exactly means.

“Alright, well, as long as it doesn’t interfere with our activities as a group, I think we’re fine, right?” Namjoon says. He’s pacing now, thinking about any potential statements the company would have to give. Would fans be scared to watch them live now? It’s not like Jungkook is rabid, right? But what about the chance he could attack someone? Jungkook is kind, he’s so careful with everything he does, but is it worth the risk?

“Actually, Jungkook, how did you become a vampire?” Jimin asks, and everyone freezes. They all look at Jungkook because they’re curious too. Jungkook doesn’t move, staring off into nothing. Jin notices how he shakes, and he’s on his feet to help Jungkook sit. He’s running his fingers through his hair, trying to bring Jungkook back to the present. There’s tears welling up in his eyes but he’s still frozen. Jimin also comes over, kneeling in front of him and apologizing.

“I’m sorry, you don’t have to tell us, we don’t have to know if it’s a bad memory for you,” he says. That seems to bring Jungkook back, and he looks down at Jimin. Jin steps back a little, but he leaves a hand on the maknae’s shoulder for comfort. Jungkook shakes his head, and lets out a big breath.

“It was when I went out after practice, I was walking to a convenience store and I took a shortcut. It was dark and I didn’t see them until they were on me,” he starts shaking again, and Jin immediately begins to rub his shoulder again. “I don’t remember a lot of what happened… All I remember is laying on the floor and a figure on me… There was no pain or anything, and then I was drinking something, they had their hand on my mouth. I think I was drinking their blood. After that I was thirsty… so thirsty…” he trails off, and Jin can see some drool dripping out of his mouth.

“Jungkook,” he calls out, pulling his hand back. Jungkook looks at him, but his eyes aren’t the big brown eyes he knows. They’re red now, dark and piercing. He looks at Jin, and then down at his neck. Jin backs up more, and the other members are on their feet now.

“He’s not going to bite Jin-hyung, is he?” Jimin asks as he backs up to where everyone else is standing, holding onto Namjoon’s arm. Namjoon looks between Jin and Jungkook, ready to intervene.

“Jungkook. Look at me,” Namjoon says, his voice hard and commanding. Jungkook ignores him, continuing to stare at Jin’s neck. He’s drooling even more now, and Jin’s heart begins to race. He wills himself to stay calm, knowing that any panic could set Jungkook off. Namjoon calls his name out again, this time stepping in between the two men.

“Snap out of it,” Namjoon bites out. Jungkook looks up at him and that seems to make him come to his senses. He shakes his head a little, and wipes the drool off his chin.

“He’s hungry,” Yoongi says. He’s standing next to Jin now, knowing the eldest is scared. “He needs to drink or he might lose control.” They all look around at each other, but Jin only stares at Jungkook.

The youngest looks guilty, and he refuses to look at Jin. Jimin started petting his hair, and that seems to be calming him down.

“Do you think we could go to a hospital and ask for blood?” Taehyung asks. Jimin huffs air out of his nose as he starts to giggle.

“Would a hospital give blood out to random people?” Taehyung only shrugs.

“Why doesn’t he just drink from one of us?” Namjoon asks. Jungkook snaps his head up to look at him, but Namjoon is walking away again. “It would be the best option, right? We all trust each other and he wouldn’t have to risk hurting someone he doesn’t know.” Jungkook only whines in response, seemingly unable to put words together.

“Um, I think I’ll have to decline this time,” Hoseok says. He looks pale again. It would be funny if everyone wasn’t so tense.

Jungkook shakes his head, and Hoseok smiles at him. All the other members stay silent, looking at one another to see who Jungkook would drink from.

Jungkook shakes his head again, but then he looks at Jin. His eyes are back to the big brown eyes, and they’re slightly teary. He whines again, and Jin understands what he wants.

“He can drink from me,” he says, “I know you’re the leader, Joon, but I think it’s a good idea if he starts with me.” He steps closer to Jungkook, brushing past Namjoon. When he reaches the maknae, he begins to caress his cheek, and Jungkook only nuzzles into the touch. Jungkook turns his head slightly so he’s nibbling on Jin’s palm, not enough to hurt but enough for Jin to feel his fangs. He feels goosebumps raise on his arms from the sensation, and he looks at the members again.

“It’ll be fine, Jungkook won’t hurt me, right Jungkook-ie?” Jin looks down at him, and while Jungkook doesn’t respond he shakes his head quickly. The way he looks at Jin feels like a promise.

He’s not teary anymore, but there’s a sparkle in his eyes that reminds Jin of when he was younger, a teen trying to navigate the woes of growing up doubled with the pressure of being an idol. Jin starts to get worked up about it again thinking about how Jungkook won’t grow older anymore, at least not physically, and he wills the knot in his throat to go away. He clears his throat once, then twice, and then turns to look at the rest of the members.

“It’ll be fine, I trust him.” Jungkook makes a noise behind him, and Jin sees he’s started to nibble on the sleeve of his hoodie, his new fangs flashing in the light of the living room.

“Fine, but we have to be in the room to monitor you, I don’t want to leave you two alone in case something goes wrong,” Namjoon says. Jungkook whines again, shaking his head.

“I don’t think he wants you guys to see,” Jin says. Jungkook nods, but Namjoon looks conflicted. “You guys can go sit in your rooms, leave your doors open so you can hear me call out if I need help. Seriously, we’ll be okay.” The members look reluctant to leave, but when they see Jungkook they know they have to go. He’s curled into himself, knees pulled up to his chest, and he’s still chewing on his sleeve. Namjoon looks over at Jin, then Jungkook, then he nods at the members. They all make their way out of the room, letting Jin know to call out if he needs anything.

“Jungkook,” Namjoon says. The youngest looks at him, freezing with his sleeve in his mouth. “Be careful with him, don’t go overboard.” Jungkook nods fiercely. Finally rising from the seat. He gives a quick hug to Namjoon, then quickly leads Jin to the sofa. Namjoon watches and then steps out of the room, but not before looking at Jin to make sure he’s really okay with the whole situation.

Jin nods at him and he walks out, leaving Jin and Jungkook alone.

“So, how do you want me?” Jin says. He knows his ears are fiery red, and Jungkook stares at them. Jin realizes he’s staring because technically, there’s blood in them and them turning red only accentuates that. He covers his ears with his hands. “Jungkook, focus.”

Jungkook shakes his head slightly, then gently pushes Jin to sit on the sofa. He sits down too, on Jin’s right side, and turns so he’s facing Jin. They stare at each other for a moment, the air in the room becomes stifling. Jungkook moves first, and Jin flinches slightly. The younger man frowns.

“Sorry, I just wanna know what you’re doing,” Jin says. Jungkook nods, and he goes to grab the bottom of Jin’s sweater. “Oh! You want me to take this off?” Jungkook nods again.

Jin takes the sweater off quickly, leaving him in his thin sleep shirt. He hadn’t bothered to change this morning when Jungkook had asked to have a meeting. He figured it would be quick, just a simple talk between the members and he would be able to go back to sleep. He wouldn’t have worn a white shirt if he had known.

Jungkook stares at Jin now, directly at the spot where his neck meets his shoulders. He begins to salivate, some of it escaping his mouth and running down. Jin reaches his hand out to wipe it up, and Jungkook turns his head to take the finger into his mouth. He sucks on it slightly, and Jin feels his fangs trying to catch and bite down. Jungkook lets out a little frustrated whine when he can’t quite bite, and Jin slowly pulls the finger out.

Jungkook stares at him, and Jin can see how his eyes begin to swirl and turn red again. He has his mouth open and he’s panting, more drool starting to seep out of the corner of his mouth.

“Here, come here,” he says, and he grabs Jungkook’s bicep to bring him closer. He ignores the heat he feels in his chest, trying to focus on what he’s doing. He directs Jungkook’s head to his neck, and stretches to allow more space for Jungkook. There’s a brief pause, then Jungkook’s lips are pressed to the warm skin.

Jin shivers, goosebumps starting to raise on his arms. Jungkook breathes in deeply, and his lips part slightly. Jin feels the fangs pressing on his neck.

Jungkook doesn’t bite down immediately, instead he drags the fangs up and down the neck. He’s trying to find the right place to bite, but it’s starting to tickle. Jin huffs out a laugh and starts shaking. Jungkook whines, and he forces himself to stay still for the youngest.

There’s another pause, Jungkook breathes in again, and then bites.

It’s a brief moment where Jin doesn’t feel anything, he almost asks Jungkook when he’s gonna bite, but then he feels burning… There’s a sharp pain right where Jungkook is latched on, and then it’s gone. It makes way for numbness, and suddenly Jin feels his weight shift as Jungkook scoots closer to him. He repositions the two of them, Jin now sitting sideways on the sofa with Jungkook on his lap. Jungkook pulls back slightly, pulling his fangs out of Jin’s neck, and Jin feels some blood drip out. The younger man quickly licks it up, running his tongue from Jin’s collar up to where he bit down. Jin shivers and instinctively wraps his arms around Jungkook, pulling him down.

Jin feels Jungkook’s chest against his, and he notices the more he sucks on his neck the warmer Jungkook gets. He starts feeling his own body heating up, knowing it’s natural that he gets… worked up… from having someone essentially sucking a hickey on his neck. Jungkook isn’t using his fangs anymore, using his lips to create a vacuum around the puncture holes. It’s a strange sensation for Jin, he doesn’t feel the blood leaving his body, but he starts feeling a little lightheaded.

Jungkook lets out a small whine, one that Jin can hear but also feel through the contact with their chests pressed together, and Jin feels his heart speed up. Jungkook must be able to feel it because he pushes forward, causing Jin to fall back with the maknae still latched onto his neck.

He’s laying on his back now, and Jungkook wastes no time to straddle him. Jin tries to keep still, but the longer Jungkook drinks the more delirious he feels. Jungkook gets more desperate, he’s running his hands over Jin’s torso, trying to find purchase and grab onto something. He’s breathing heavily, letting out little whines every couple of seconds. Jin feels him stop for a moment. He takes a brief pause to look at Jungkook, and he sees him already staring at him. He gasps and suddenly Jungkook is sucking again, with more force, and Jin closes his eyes from how dizzy it makes him.

He knows he should stop Jungkook, knows that if Jungkook takes more and more he’ll drain him completely, but he can’t. The feeling of Jungkook’s lips on his neck, paired with the new warmth of his body on top of his, is driving Jin insane. He puts one hand on Jungkook’s head, grabbing some of his hair and pulling him closer to his neck. The other hand goes down to rest on the maknae’s tiny waist, rubbing circles into the other’s skin with his thumb.

Jungkook lets out one more tiny whimper, and pulls back. He looks down at Jin, who looks disheveled and completely dazed, and leans in once more. Instead of sucking again, he just licks at the puncture holes. Jin feels a slight stinging sensation again, but then it’s gone. Jungkook pulls away again, and then he’s caressing Jin’s cheek. They stay like that for a second, the two of them breathing heavily and staring at each other as they come to their senses. Jungkook pats his cheek and then stands.

Jin can’t sit up, he feels groggy, and he closes his eyes. His stomach flips and he groans when he realizes how heavy his limbs feel. He opens his eyes again and sees Jungkook hovering over him.

“Hyung-ie, are you okay?” Jungkook’s voice is small, like he’s embarrassed. “I think I took too much from you, I got carried away.” Jin groans again and forces himself to sit up, closing his eyes once more when he begins to feel dizzy.

“I’m okay, Jungkook, I just feel tired now,” Jin says. Jungkook nods, but he doesn’t move. “Can you help me get to my room?”

Jungkook immediately bends down and picks Jin up, but it causes Jin’s stomach to flip and he has to hide his head in Jungkook’s neck to ease the nausea. Jungkook apologizes, and slowly makes his way to Jin’s room.

They pass Namjoon’s room, and Jin looks up and sees all the members sitting on his bed. They all step out into the hall and look at the pair with their eyebrows raised, but only Namjoon steps forward and holds his thumb up. Jin nods and all their shoulders relax. They all step back into Namjoon’s room and he hears the door close.

They make it into Jin’s room, and Jungkook gently places Jin on the bed. Jin could cry at how sweet Jungkook is as he watches Jungkook make his way around the room. The younger man grabs a glass from the bedside table and steps out of the room, coming back quickly with it filled with water. He offers it to Jin, but he shakes his head. Jungkook sets it down on the bedside table again and heads over to the corner of Jin’s room, pulling out an extra soft blanket and an RJ plush. He cover’s Jin with the blanket, and he places the plush on Jin’s lap.

Jungkook stands awkwardly in the middle of the room, fidgeting with his sleeves. He looks around, trying to see what else he could do to make Jin feel more comfortable. Jin sighs, closes eyes, and raises his arm. Jungkook notices straight away because Jin feels his bed dip with the new weight, and then Jungkook is curled up on his side, his leg draped over his hips.

“Are you sure you’re okay, hyung-ie?” Jungkook asks quietly. Jin, still with his eyes closed, begins to run his fingers through the younger’s hair. He scrapes his scalp slightly, and Jungkook scooches closer.

“I’m fine, Jungkook, I’m just tired. I’ll be fine in a couple hours, I think. It’s like donating blood right?” Jin says. He hears Jungkook giggle, and he cracks his eyes open to look down at him. The other is staring straight at him, and Jin notices his eyes are red again. “How are you feeling? Still thirsty?”

Jungkook shakes his head, then he puts his head down on Jin’s chest and lets out a content sigh.

“I feel warm,” he says. He doesn’t continue. Jin closes his eyes again and relaxes against his pillows.

They know it’s something they’ll have to talk about. A new dynamic that they’ll have to explore, but for now, they’ll bask in each other’s warmth, dozing off to the sound of each other's breaths.

Jin smiles as he feels Jungkook’s heart beat with new life.
