Work Text:
The final bell of the day rings and Kaoru quickly gathers up his belongings. He heads into the hallway and makes his way to his locker but stops abruptly outside of an empty nearby classroom when he hears two voices coming from the room.
“Hey Mako, what did you need to talk to me about?” It’s Kojiro’s voice that Kaoru hears and it brings a small smile to his face.
There is a pause and what sounds like some stammering before he hears the girl's voice again.
“I really, really like you, Kojiro. Would you want to go on a date sometime?” he hears her say. Kaoru’s smile quickly disappears and he's immediately riddled with anxiety. Despite this, Kaoru quickly leans up against the wall outside of the classroom door to hear more. He’s not quite sure who Mako is, the name not sounding familiar, but by the sound of her voice she sounds nervous.
“I’ve always thought you were super cute. And funny too! And I think we could-”
Before he can hear Kojiro’s response, Kaoru turns around and rushes to his locker. He quickly puts his things away and as he slams his locker door shut, he hears Kojiro approaching him.
“Hey, princess,” Kojiro says while leaning up against the row of lockers. “How was your last class?”
Kaoru ignores him and hurries right past him down the hallway.
“Kaoru, wait! Wait for me!” Kojiro catches up to him and grabs his arm gently, pulling him to the side of the hallway against some lockers. “Is there something wrong? Are you okay?” Kojiro’s voice is filled with concern for his boyfriend, worry written all over his face.
“I don’t know, why don’t you go ask Mako?” It comes out much harsher than Kaoru intends but can’t bring himself to feel bad about it.
“Huh? Mako? What are you-” From the look on his face, Kojiro realizes that Kaoru had overheard the conversation. “How much of that did you hear?”
“I heard enough,” Kaoru replies simply.
“Well, if you would have stuck around, you would have heard me rejecting her. And telling her I was already dating someone.”
“Oh,” was all Kaoru could respond with after a moment.
"You're not actually jealous, right?" Kojiro asks.
"Of course not," Kaoru replies quickly, avoiding his boyfriend's eyes.
Kojiro makes an exaggerated sigh and crowds Kaoru up against the lockers, tilting Kaoru’s head to force eye contact. Kaoru nervously glances up and down the hall, making sure they’re both still alone, before looking back at Kojiro.
“You sure about that?” Kojiro asks, eyebrows furrowing in concern. The only response he gets is Kaoru looking down while nervously biting his lip ring.
“I don’t want anyone else,” Kojiro continues. "You're the only one for me, Kaoru. I hope you know that."
“I know,” Kaoru mumbles. “Deep down, I know. Just sometimes…”
“I don’t care about that girl. Or any other girl. Or anyone else. Just you. I love you.”
Kojiro cups Kaoru’s face with both of his hands, gently rubbing his cheek with one of his thumbs. Kaoru brings up his hands to wrap around Kojiro’s wrists before slowly leaning his forehead against Kojiro’s.
“I love you too,” Kaoru replies quietly. Kaoru places a soft kiss on his boyfriend’s lips and can feel Kojiro’s smile through the kiss.
“Let’s go home,” Kojiro says while pulling back and linking their fingers together. “My mom is making carbonara for dinner.”
Kaoru’s eyebrows perk up at the thought of eating his favorite food.
“Well, let’s get going then,” Kaoru says before practically dragging his boyfriend down the hallway.
