Chapter 1
Maya hated all of this the way she was being treated by her supposed friends she was sick of them talking behind her back. Her work life was hell and now her home life was just as bad, she’s never felt so distant from her wife she understood why Carina was hurt she didn’t tell her but she didn’t expect this. They have barely spoken in six weeks and when they did it always ended with one of them walking away.
Maya knew that this scene was too dangerous and Beckett was drunk yet again, but there were children inside she had to save them. Just as Maya was getting the last of the children out before she could react the ceiling fell down on her trapping her, the last thing she saw before she passed out was her wife’s face and in that moment she thought everyone would be better off if she was gone.
Andy saw it all and rushed everyone over to get Maya out of the rubble, it looked bad she just hoped Maya will survive Andy felt so angry that Beckett allowed Maya into the building without protection why didn’t she say anything if Maya doesn’t make it she knows she’ll never forgive herself.
Carina was getting ready to leave the hospital when she overheard that they were bringing in a firefighter and that it was bad, she had a really bad feeling that this was Maya, and before she could say anything Bailey approached her.
“Carina I was just coming to find you” Bailey started to say.
“It’s Maya isn’t it” Carina broke out as she could feel the tears coming.
“Yes, I just spoke to Ben and she’s stable but she will need surgery Owen is going to operate and I’m going to page Amelia, I know you’ll want to see her but I’m going to need you to remain calm I promise you we’re going to do everything we can to save your wife.” Bailey said as she helped Carina sit down.
“I, I can’t lose her” Carina cried as she held her head in her hands she can’t have their last words be angry, she couldn’t lose her wife she wouldn’t survive it.
As Andy and Ben rushed Maya into the hospital, Ben knew that they had to be quick, they didn’t want her to flat line again they came so close to losing her as a doctor he knew this was bad the helmet that they were can only stop so much.
“Andy what happened” Carina cried as she approached her.
“Carina I, I’m so sorry I we shouldn’t have let her go in alone, we knew that Beckett was wrong” Andy cried her best friend could die and it was all their fault.
“You let her go in with no back up how could you all do that, come potresti essere cosi stupido che faresti meglio a sperare che viva” Carina yelled as the chief walked through the doo with Sullivan.
“We were in another part of the building I should have spoke up when Beckett sent Maya to that part it was against protocol to allow and fire fighter to go in without someone” Andy said not wanting Carina to yell at her again.
“This is your fault you did this to my wife, you knew he was a drunk, faresti meglio a sperare che mia moglie viva, come puoi essere cosi stupido” Carina yelled she knew Sullivan knew what she said but she didn’t care she wasn’t going to let them get away with this.
“Captain has been relieved from his duties I understand this is an unfortunate incident but this isn’t my fault” Chief Ross said as Andy went to hold Carina back.
“My wife could die you don’t care so why are you here and you you’re just as bad as Beckett, what does my wife get for helping you still be a firefighter you conspired to get back to the top. Maya lost her captaincy because she saved a boys life she wasn’t a drunk or a drug addict stealing drugs while on the job and what does she get no fair trial, just stripped of her captaincy. She was never given a fair trial and you call your self a chief I wouldn’t want to work with you, you only care about yourself you put people’s lives at risk. You put my wife’s life at risk, the way you three have treated my wife these last six months you broke her, and she put up with it. I want to know why because she called you out she saw a opportunity and she took it, I didn’t think it was right for her to use that, but it’s not like she was lying you are sleeping together. You kept Beckett on to keep your dirty little secret you allowed him to humiliate and abuse my wife and if you seriously think for one second I’m going to allow you to get away with this you’ve got another thing coming. Now get out” Carina yelled.
“You have no proof of anything, and you can’t tell me what to do” Chief Ross said embarrassed that she was spoken about.
“No she doesn’t but I do” Andy said as she pulled out her phone and showed them the picture that her cousin sent her months ago.
“Oh and Carina may not be able to ask you both to leave but I can I’m chief and your causing my staff undo stress so I’d like you both to leave oh and I will be reporting this” Bailey said as she walked over to them.
“Ok we’re going, we just wanted to see how Bishop was” Chief Ross said wishing she hadn’t bothered coming now.
“It’s Deluca Bishop and you don’t get to speak my wife’s name, Bailey can I please go to the viewing room I promise I won’t interfere I just need to know she’s ok” Carina said as Bailey led her away.
“Ok, I’ll stand with you but you can’t stay long you need to let them work I’ve got a room ready and I can send someone in with you while it’s going on” Bailey said as they walked towards the theatre area.
“Si grazie, I’ll sit back out with Andy, I know Maya is in safe hands I trust Owen and Amelia. I’m sorry for yelling I just don’t understand why they would come here this is all their fault.” Carina cried, as they walked into the room she could see them working on her wife she just needed her to be ok their baby needed her to be ok.
As Ben and Andy sat there Vic and Travis walked into the waiting area, she couldn’t even really be angry with them because she should have spoken up for Maya she allowed them all to be cruel to her best friend.
“How is she” Vic asked as she went to sit next to Andy.
“I don’t know, so where is Beckett” Andy asked as she stood up and started pacing the room.
“The police breathalysed him at the scene he was arrested and the Chief suspended him I don’t think she had a choice. Where’s Carina I thought she’d be here then again she was pretty angry at Maya” Vic said.
Andy wanted to say something but she couldn’t she didn’t want to make things worse so she left the area to head outside, she really needed some air. She was happy that Beckett had been arrested he couldn’t get away with this.
“Vic you can’t be serious right now, Maya could die and you think this is funny, Carina is with Maya where else would she be, to be honest I really don’t think you two should be here right now, and I know I wasn’t fair to Maya either but what you two have been doing. I’m not doing this I’m going to get some air” Ben said as he went to walk away.
“Hey this wasn’t our fault, it’s not are fault that Beckett was punishing Maya she shouldn’t have tired blackmailing the chief Maya is to blame” Vic said she didn’t understand why people were blaming her.
“We all played our part, we didn’t speak up, and we never said anything as he had Maya run drill after drill. Was Maya even eating, when was the last time we offered her dinner when we were all eating, look how much weight she was losing. Look at the amount of times you spoke bad about her when you thought she wasn’t listening making jokes about her marriage, if this is what friendship is for you then I don’t want no part of it. When was Maya not ever there for all of you, the way you treated her wasn’t right. If I was you I’d leave before Carina comes back what with the way she’s feeling we all let her wife down and if you can’t see that then you’re all idiots” Ben said as he walked off he couldn’t stay a moment longer.
After leaving the hospital Chief Ross received a phone call and pending an investigation, she was being suspended as well as Sullivan due to complaints from other firefighters and what Beckett told the police. She knew she couldn’t use the their word against hers anymore as it was aired in a room frill of firefighters and doctors and nurses at the hospital. She never meant for anyone to get really hurt, but she was angry that Bishop tried to blackmail her.
Sullivan knew his career as a firefighter at station 19 was done, Carina was right the way he’s been acting, if Maya dies he knows he played a part in this. He wasn’t shocked that he was being suspended and he didn’t think he would be able to get a job anywhere else now. He should have stopped Beckett not helped him destroy Maya when she made one mistake she didn’t deserve this.
After watching them work on Maya for the last hour, Carina knew it was going to be a long process, she watched Owen pin her leg and her wife wasn’t going to like any of this not being able to run. Bailey walked her out of the room, when she could see that it was becoming to much for her, she felt so exhausted and broken. As she laid there with tears streaming down her face she couldn’t face the fact that the last words with her wife were spoken in anger and that she may never get the chance to say how much she loves her how much their unborn child will love their mom. Carina just needed Maya to come back to them so they can be the family they always wanted to be, because she couldn’t live without Maya. It didn’t take her long to fall asleep she couldn’t keep her eyes open any longer she just felt so lost and alone.
