Work Text:
A crack of thunder wakes Kojiro out of a dead sleep. He hears more thunder rumbling in the distance and the wind howling, with rain pelting their bedroom windows.
Kojiro has always hated thunderstorms, especially at night. The uncertainty of not knowing what's coming, of the darkness hiding what's in the night sky. Unpredictable lightning flickering across the dark followed by loud thunder. Thunderstorms never fail to overwhelm Kojiro with anxiety, often making it impossible to fall back asleep. That was the case until he started sharing a bed with Kaoru.
Kaoru is sprawled out next to him on his back, long limbs hogging up the majority of the bed as always. Kojiro watches as he boyfriend breathes deeply in his sleep, a small snore escaping from his lips. He cuddles up next to his boyfriend, resting his head on Kaoru's shoulder and draping an arm and leg over him. Kojiro buries his face into Kaoru's loose, pink hair, breathing in the floral scent of the expensive shampoo that Kaoru insists on using while trying to drown out the sound of the storm by focusing on Kaoru's breathing.
Kojiro feels Kaoru stir awake before he's enveloped in Kaoru's arms. He feels his boyfriend's hands run up and down his bare back, trying to help sooth Kojiro's anxiety. After being together for so many years, Kaoru knows exactly how to comfort Kojiro during bad weather like this.
He feels Kaoru's hands travel up to his hair and feels his long fingernails begin to massage his scalp. This goes on for a few minutes, Kojiro's rapid heartbeat slowly returning to a normal rate as he concentrates on Kaoru's fingers in his hair.
After a few more minutes, Kojiro let's out a content sigh and places a gentle kiss on Kaoru's neck.
"Better?" he hears Kaoru ask, fingers finally leaving Kojiro's scalp and traveling down to gently sooth the back of his neck.
"Much. Thank you, princess," Kojiro replies before burying his face back into Kaoru's hair.
