Chapter Text
The night had deepened long ago with dawn now stealthily approaching.
In the heart of a city where its people are stirring themselves awake, a lone apartment remained silent and still. Its peace disturbed sporadically by the loud snores of its human occupant.
She is not where we will begin our story, however—
“Meow!”
—it is with him where we will begin it, rather.
Within the darkness, a tall crack emerges, colouring the apartment with its dim light.
Creeee—!
And what a sight to behold, indeed. From the sofa with its cushions torn and tossed all over, to the kitchen cabinets that had been sprung wide open… it seemed as if a hurricane had passed through the apartment.
Cree—!
Jerkily, the crack widened further. Nudged, of course, by our small feline friend: a patched brown-orange tabby whose jade eyes glowed ominous in the dark. A menacing, yet adorable creature. Once satisfied with his progress, he sits, turning his head from left to right. With his steady stance and air of confidence, one would think him a ruler surveying the ruins of his kingdom.
Or was he an architect admiring his work?
With a trill and a purr, he blithely lifted his hindquarters into the air while his front paws reached out as far as they could. As his bones and muscles cracked into place, a look of satisfaction appeared across his face. It was a stretch well earned, he felt.
Especially after a hard night's work.
“Meow!”
Now that his body has settled into comfort, he resumed his journey into the dark. His small paws padding gently against the parquet as he turned towards the room of his servant. What a mess! thought he when he leaped over one of the many knick-knacks on the floor, This must be cleaned immediately! What if we had guests over?
This comment was not without its irony, undoubtedly, for he had left a trail of dark prints in his wake.
