Chapter Text
Glimmer performs her nightly no knock raid just on time. You never bothered to lock the door in the three years that the two of you have been roommates, so why stop now?
“Guess the fuck what?” Glimmer asks, her speech is slurred, she most likely got drinks after work. She kicks off her shoes and makes herself comfy on your bed. “You gotta guess. For real guess.”
You scoot away from your desk and give Glimmer your full attention, its just easier this way. “You finally talked to Bow.” Glimmer had been pining after the guy since sophomore year of high school, never once finding the courage to talk to him outside of a friendly conversation.
“Yes and no!” Glimmer shouts, “I ran into his sister, Catra.” At your confused face she clarifies, “You know, my worst enemy! From our entire childhood?”
“How does this involve Bow?” You ask.
“Because he will be thankful that I didn’t murder her in cold blood. Lemme see your phone.” She’s already opening your phone and going through your Instagram feed. “Why do you already follow her?”
Before you can even think of a decent lie she’s showing you Catra’s feed. “She doesn’t follow you back, how embarrassing. She hasn’t posted since 2018, how pretentious of her.” And oh boy, do you remember Catra.
Catra, adopted sister of Bow. She had transferred to your school freshman year. Catra was your first gay crush that wasn’t a character from a book or a TV show. You never had the guts to ask her out, Glimmer and you had that in common. She was also the bane of Glimmer’s existence. The two girls hated each other from the first group project that they were paired up for. She was somehow even cooler than she was in high school. You were pretty much the same dork as before. Being a jock did not guarantee automatic confidence and swagger unfortunately, you were still the same dork as before. Granted, the girl hadn’t posted in a few years, you had no doubt that she was still just as bad ass as before. “-shit!” Glimmer pulls you out of your thoughts, “Oh shit…” She says again before locking your phone and throwing it across the bed.
“What?” You demand.
“Adora, keep calm, its nothing really.” Glimmer stretches her arms out, trying to play it cool, “I accidentally liked a picture from 2016.”
Immediate panic, “2016? Glimmer! 2016? That is so many years ago! She’s going to think that I’m stalking her or something!”
“Hey! She hasn’t posted since 2018, maybe she went off grid, delete the app.” Glimmer was probably right, is what you tell yourself. But what if she’s wrong? Which, historically, was definitely more likely. When you glance over at your inebriated best friend, she’s out cold, still in her work clothes. The hangover that she will endure tomorrow morning is revenge enough.
You pick up your phone and find the picture that Glimmer liked, it’s a good picture at least. A candid of Catra laughing, her hair was growing back after she had cut it short her senior year of high school, eyes scrunched up, her brown skin was a soft shade of pink from laughing. You always knew that Catra was beautiful, especially when she laughed or smiled, usually the laughter was at the expense of Glimmer, but it was worth the rant on the way home to you. You look at the little red heart in the corner of the page. You leave it there.

Ding!
Instagram: CatraMeowMeow liked your photo.
You try not to choke on your water when you see that Catra liked a photo from 2019, and not just any photo, a thirst trap that you meant to take down the next day but never did, because it had gained over 500 likes and half as many new followers. Sometimes you were vain.
Ding!
CatraMeowMeow sent you a direct message.
You briefly considered leaving the message unread for a day, maybe a few hours, maybe five minutes tops, but you were never known for your self control.
-Liking a pic from 2016, doing your monthly stalking of the rest of our graduation class?
Play it cool.
-Would you believe me if I said my dog did it?
-not at all.
-at least it’s a good pic
And with a sudden wave of courage you find yourself typing out,
-What about you? 2019?
And you actually do choke on your water when she responds,
-its a good pic, didn’t take you for posting thirst traps
-didn’t take you for someone who falls for them.
-like I said, it’s a good pic.
You put your phone down and walk away from your desk. Catra is flirting with you. You look at your friend asleep in your bed, snoring. Glimmer would definitely shit several bricks if she found out that you were flirting with her high school nemesis.
But Glimmer didn’t have to know.
