Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter Text

Chapter One

Min Yoongi didn't expect much from the circumstances that he encounters everyday. No expectations, no disappointments. He was that kind of person. No, he wasn't a cynic, or well, maybe a little but only with regards to superficial shit like, he doesn't know, public displays of affection, probably? Or public displays of anything, he would shrug. But that's just really on the teensy bit.

Overall, he was just another Daegu boy gone to Seoul: wary but hopeful, cautious but keen, not really looking for love but would welcome it if it comes.

(Or so he thinks.)

So when he moved into the fully furnished Hybe Dorms (which was renamed because it was previously called Big Hit Boarding Houses or BHBH to which people later just lazily called BHs, bitches if you say it fast, because BHBH turned out to be quite a mouthful) for a price unbelievably cheap for being so near the busking city center, he knew not to raise expectations already.

'Hyung, it's so new and it's a fifteen-minute trip to our studio–well, eight if you're running–'

'I already paid the advance and this month's rent, Namjoon-ah,' Yoongi cuts off his enthusiastic friend's overselling of the place. 'You don't have to convince me further.'

Kim Namjoon pouts, which should look weird for a slightly buff 6-foot guy but boy, could he pull it off. 'But you still look so unconvinced like I'm conning you or something!'

'What do you mean? That's how he always looks.'

Both boys turned to see Kim Seokjin leaning against the doorframe, hands in his pockets. While Namjoon perks up at the sight of him, Yoongi just rolls his eyes.

'This is how you become when you've fallen victim to Jin-hyung's multiple cons , Joon.' Yoongi plops on the floor and starts zipping open his suitcase.

'Yah! And to think I even brought you tangerines as a welcome present.' Jin huffs. 'Where would you ever find such a, uh...Joonie help me out.'

'Hospitable?'

Jin snaps his fingers. 'Hospitable landlord!'

'I don't think being the owner's son makes you officially my landlord.' Yoongi points out dryly but gratefully takes the bag of tangerines, anyway. 'But for these, I'd consider.'

Jin shakes his head as he nestles next to Namjoon and almost immediately they're sealed to their own world like puzzle pieces. Yoongi doesn’t know whether to feel irked or relieved that the two Kims were finally together. It’s been a year and a half of idiotic pining and frankly, he would scream if he had any more of it. But then he gets PDAs like that and then he feels like screaming, too.

Instead, he sighs.

‘We’d better go, Jin-hyung.’ Namjoon softly jostles Jin’s head on his shoulder before the elder could even think of falling asleep. ‘Yoongi-hyung still has to unpack.’

Jin stubbornly doesn’t move for a while but realizes that they both know Yoongi and knows how he likes his space very much so Jin stands up and ruffles Yoongi’s hair affectionately, instead.

‘Yoongi-yah, call me if you need anything, m’kay? Joonie and I are just a few floors up but we’d very much like it if you don’t disturb us.’ Jin waggles his eyebrows suggestively and Namjoon buries his face in his hands shyly.

‘Get out!’ Yoongi groans but laughs at how easily Namjoon gets flustered when Jin was around, the lovesick fool.

‘No but seriously, Yoongi-hyung.’ Namjoon says, his ears still red. ‘Anything that bothers you, just holler. These walls are very thin, anyway.’

The Kims shuffle out of his space and his unit, shoving against each other and chuckling and it’s those tiny moments that makes Yoongi smile a little, knowing that that kind of affection exists.

He's still smiling softly when it dawns on him, what the hell does Namjoon mean these walls are thin?

*

'Maybe it's not that thin,' Yoongi mumbles as he peels off another tangerine. He's been shuffling around as quietly as he could around his own room because of what Namjoon said, anxious that he might be bothering his only neighbor.

Yoongi's chosen unit was the last room on the west side of the floor (the only privilege of being Jin's friend is that he freely chose it), which thankfully means that there would only be one neighbor that he's going to worry about if the thin walls happened to be true.

So far though, there hasn't been any significant noise from the other side so it maybe really wasn't that thin or that maybe his neighbor's just probably out.

Ahh, so much for a cheap place.

He could just plaster some soundproofing mats on the walls? He quickly grabs his phone to check if they were selling those stuff online.

He was in the middle of scrolling through some interesting reviews about a speaker when he first heard it: 'Hello, Yoongi-ssi.'

Yoongi immediately snaps his head up to spot the source of voice because it honestly feels like it's just in the same room.

But Namjoon isn't there. Seokjin isn't either.

What the fuck?

Yoongi turns to look at the wall his couch was resting against. But then shakes his head. No. How could his neighbor even know his name?

But Yoongi places an ear on the wall still, just to be sure. Scuffling. A creak. A purr…?

Yoongi didn't know cats were allowed in the dorms.

In the end, he shrugs, probably just his imagination, with all the energy he spent re-arranging his stuff, tiptoeing around plus composing songs until late hours the night before—yeah, he's definitely just tired.

There's really no actual deep crooning voice calling out his name endearingly, right?

Right?
