Work Text:
The weather had begun to turn colder in Whitestone and Vex’ahlia had added on layers to keep warm throughout the day. The walls of the castle kept out the biting wind and the rooms with lit fireplaces were warm and comfortable, but the hallways held a chill due to the cold stone. When Vex had been little she had dreamed of living in a place like this. At that point in time, it was the imagining of a child who wanted very much to prove to her father and the other elves that she was worthwhile and important. She knew the meaning of wealth and it had made her shrewd in her business dealings. The part of living in a place this large was one didn’t often mention how at times the coldness bit a little more deeply due to the loneliness of it all.
Vox Machina had at last gone their separate ways after everything and Vex, for the first time in her life, was truly alone without her twin. Vex’ahlia had gone back to Whitestone with her husband and, despite not being alone, she felt the cold press of loneliness around her. She was the Lady of Whitestone with duties and privilege and it was everything she had ever wanted as a child.
Vex made her way down to the workshop where the warm glow of the forge was lit and the sound of Percy working could be heard. She leaned up against the doorway before moving into the room. Percy was lost in his work and was initially unaware of her presence. This suited Vex quite well as she enjoyed watching Percival work. He had his sleeves rolled up to his elbows and Vex watched with enjoyment as the muscles in his forearms tensed as he worked with the fine gears and metalwork. Her gaze lingered on his long fingers and there was a burning in Vex that was ignited. She distracted herself for a moment as her gaze was drawn upward to where he had mounted one of the guns onto the wall. A reminder, he had told her, he would not make anything that would harm again.
“Percy,” she said and he startled for a moment, before setting down his work and turning towards her. This was what the child in her could not have imagined nor have dreamed to want. It was not the title or the privilege that made Vex’ahlia happy, it was this man. Her husband, her partner. Vex'ahlia felt warm at the sight of him, the cold of loneliness banished by finding her person. “You missed lunch again.”
“Ah,” Percy pushed his glasses up his nose and rubbed ruefully at the back of his neck. “I apologize. Time got away from me, it seems. I could take a break now if you’d like?” He offered. Nothing had ever prepared Vex’ahlia for Percival. She had known what love felt like with her brother, but even with that familial love, there had always been an understanding in Vex’s mind that Vax didn’t choose her. They were twins and only had each other, but they had never had to choose each other. Percy chose her and she chose him. He knew her flaws and her fears and he embraced them, just as she knew his.
She smiled. “Yes, I think now is the perfect time to take a break.” She moved forward and straddled his lap with confidence.
Percy blinked for a moment. “You’re not hungry?”
“Darling, of course, I am,” she bent her head and kissed him deeply. His hands grabbed her hips and Vex ran her hands through his white hair. They broke apart and Vex deftly took his glasses off and set them on the workbench. They had learned that lesson a few times when things got carried away and Percy was in sudden need of new glasses.
“I love you,” Percy said earnestly, his blue eyes meeting hers and Vex felt herself drawn into him again in a bruising kiss because there was really no other way to respond. It didn’t take long before they were desperately disrobing each other and Vex regretted her many layers. Their clothes ended up in piles across the floor as Percy encouraged her up from his lap and to the makeshift bed in the workshop that had been used for this purpose too many times to count. The cold from outside could not reach them as they moved together.
Recovering, Vex lay against Percy with her head resting on his bare chest. She looked up at him and he looked just as satisfied as she felt. “I wanted to tell you something while we ate.”
“Oh?” Percy asked, running his fingers through her hair that for once was unbraided.
“Yes,” She took a breath. “I got some news today that I’ve been waiting for for a little while now. Percy, I’m pregnant.” His hand stilled in her hair and Percy blinked at her.
“You’re pregnant?” he breathed out and Vex nodded. “How long?”
“Not long, I missed my last cycle and I knew it was a possibility. I didn’t want to get your hopes up, so I had one of the clerics come and they confirmed what I thought,” Vex smiled, her nerves melting away now that she shared the news. “We’re going to have a child.”
Percy pulled her up to meet his mouth again and Vex found she could be even more satisfied.
