Kaminari's a Detective?

Summary:

Kaminari got an internship offer from the ADA. Aizawa isn't a fan of Yokohama, but Kaminari takes the internship anyways.

...He runs into a bit of a problem with the Port Mafia and some amnesia around the Dragon's Head Incident.

OR:

Kaminari has an interesting Yokohaman backstory, and BSD happens to be in the same universe. Things change. (oh wow, who could've guessed?)

OR OR:

Yokohama drama gets aired to the world, and Kaminari is in the middle of it.

Notes:

Hellooooooooooooooooooo!
So, don’t mind me, just messing up the cannon for both series because I just got into BSD and I am faaaaaaaaaaar to lazy to read cannon material. That won’t matter though, I’m following the BNHA arcs loosely.
(More like one arc but still)

This will involve: chatfic, crack, family fluff, angst, backstory reveals, etc.
Also I’m really, really bad at writing romance/ships, so most relationships are going to stay platonic for now.

So in ‘Detective Kaminari’ we know that,
1) Kaminari is very smart
2) There is a backstory
3) Dazai’s basically his older brother
4) The poor U.A. students have no idea what’s going on.

I’m taking these things and running with them. I’m guessing that the original fic has been abandoned, so I’m gonna do a little bit from where it stopped.
Things this will include:
- Eri/Overhaul arc
- Kaminari dying a lot
- Backstory drama
- Going back to U.A.

Also I've changed a bit within what would've been already known because suspense

As i said in the summary, there are some things that the 1-A people don't know, such as:
where he's interning (revealed early)
who hes interning with (revealed early)
who hes encountered (revealed mid-story)
who he is (revealed late)
and some other little bits and pieces

Chapter 1: Bakugou mother-henning and a run-in with forgotten gods & memories

Summary:

Bakugou mother hens.

Dazai knows too much, so he stays off screen.

Denki feels family.

Chuuya feels lost familiarity.

Arahabaki is helpful, for once.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Chat: Worried chooks for a particular Pikachu and a mother hen.

Rock chik: I saw Kaminari today! He seemed fine.

Notes chik: Yeah! He seemed happy with the agency he was interning with, but does anyone know which agency it is? I didn’t recognise the hero.

Alien chik: I can track kami using the app – lemme check where he is.

Alien chik: uh… Midori? What do you know about yokohama?

Boomboom hen: WHAT DO YOU MEAN HES IN YOKOHAMA?

Stickler chik: Bakugou! Calm down at once!

Nedzu joined the chat!

Nedzu: Yes! Kaminari is interning with the Armed Detective Agency in Yokohama! I look forward to seeing what you think about it!

Nedzu left the chat!

Floaty chik: How about we go to the common area and Deku-kun can tell us there rather than over text?

Boomboom hen: FINE!

Notes chik: Okay! I’ll get my notebooks and meet you down there.

Everyone is offline.

POV CHANGE

Most people made their way down to the common room, the group consisted of Bakugou, Kirishima, Mina, Sero, Jirou, Yaoyorozu, Iida, Tokoyami, Ojiro, Midoryia, Uraraka, Todoroki, Tsu and Shouji.

Sitting on chairs and couches, they all got set up and were ready to listen until Todoroki bought down his conspiracy board. To ‘keep track of the evidence,’ he had said. Everyone was there, and they were listening to Midoriya.

Getting out one of his notebooks, Midoriya starts talking, “I’ll do Yokohama facts first. So, Yokohama is known as ‘the Quirkless city,’ but that is far from the truth. It had been known like this as there was a massive barrier shielding it from the world when quirks emerged. But many Yokohamans came out from the mutation period with something different to quirks, which are abilities.
“Abilities are far different from quirks. Abilities are far more likely to hurt the user, but they are more powerful. By a large margin. However, very few people have abilities, approximately one percent. Many Old Humans still reside in Yokohama due to its nature.
“The shield around the city is still running, but they are more lenient on who they let in- not by much.
“Yokohama has the lowest petty crime rate in the world but has the highest organised crime rate. There are no heroes or villains in Yoko-”

“WHAT?!” Mina shrieks, “NO VILLAINS? WHY AREN’T WE THERE?!”

Midoryia continues as if the interruption never took place, “the Old Humans of Yokohama are taken care of by the government. The ability-users are taken care of – officially by the Special Abilities Unit, unofficially by the ADA, or Armed Detective Agency. That’s where Kaminari is interning.”

Uraraka asks a question, “Why would they need an armed agency if there’s no villains, and how would Kaminari be interning there if it’s not a hero agency?”

“I’m getting to that.” Midoryia says, immersed in his explanation, “The ADA is made up of ability users, most with no official training, but they have some of the highest solved cases rates in the world. That aside, the reason why Yokohama is locked away and why the ADA is needed is simple.”
“The Port Mafia.”

There is silence for a few seconds, before the talking starts.

It goes on for a few minutes before Bakugou growls, “you idiots know nothing, Deku does. Let him talk.”

“Thanks, Kacchan! Anyways, the Port Mafia is basically the heroes of Yokohama.” He holds up a hand to silence the protests, “now, I know that sounds stupid. But the Port Mafia keeps everyone safe, which is why the amount of violence towards citizens not involved in the underground is close to zero, but in the underground, the Port Mafia are the ‘top dogs.’
“They’ve been around for hundreds of years, and their methods of dispatching enemies are quick, brutal, and effective. One example of this is the partnership of Double Black, or Soukoku. They appeared on the scene approximately eight years ago and haven’t been known to be active in 2 years. However, that just may be because they’ve not been caught. In the six known years of activity, they accounted for approximately three thousand kills, although the true count is suspected to be at least double that number.
“Not a single person was able to even guess at their identity. However, enough on Soukoku. The Port Mafia is currently run by Mori Ougai – but it’s been run semi-legally because all of Japan would fall if the Port Mafia decided war would be useful to them – but they’re so good that even though it’s common knowledge what they do, they can’t be charged because of how they cover their tracks.
“Anyways, in Yokohama, because there aren’t any heroes, there aren’t restrictions on abilities, you just need to know where it’s safe. Now, I’ll let you guys talk, then I’ll share my theories about Kaminari-kun.” Midoryia finishes his explanation.

The talking starts up almost immediately, where’s Denki from? Is he safe? What is he? Who is he-

Bakugou starts yelling, obviously done with what they have to say and wanting to pass it onto Midoriya to hear his theories, “SHUT UP! LET US HEAR WHAT DEKU HAS TO SAY!”

“Aw, Bakugou I knew you loved us-” Sero gets an explosion to the face.

“Okay. So, I have multiple theories. I’m just going to list them.
“Number one, Kaminari Denki is from Yokohama. Either he knows or he doesn’t, but there was a big drama a few years ago.
“Two, his quirk... I'm not sure about this one, I don't know a lot about them: Abilities. They might be quirks, they might not be.
“Three, he was sent by the underground to infiltrate U.A. I doubt this one, but it’s still a theory.
“Four, he was sent by either the ADA or Port Mafia for one reason or another.
“Five, he was manipulated into coming here."
“Now, I understand this is a lot to process, but I also discovered something about the person he was with – Dazai Osamu.”

“What did you learn, Midoriya?” Todoroki asks, not looking away from his corkboard.

“According to the files, Dazai Osamu didn’t exist until nine years ago. Then again, with a lot of the ADA this is very common.”

“Hmm… yes, very interesting evidence…” Todoroki mumbles.

“Perhaps we just ask him?” Yaoyorozu points out, ever the voice of reason. “Kaminari has given us no reason not to trust him, and he has always answered. Or, of course, we could stage an outing for class bonding.

Iida, the only one with his head on straight immediately starts protesting the idea, “no! We cannot disrespect our classma-”

“Iida, it is not disrespectful if we only happen to be visiting where Denki is interning. Or, of course, the people on the rescue mission could tell us. If you went and asked your mentors to collaborate under the guise of ‘training’ and preparing teamwork, you could enter Yokohama with little-to-no problem and see what Denki’s doing from the inside.” Jirou suggests.

(quick a/n: I am unsure as to who on earth was actually involved in the operation to save Eri, so the people from 1-A that are involved are: Midoriya, Kirishima, Uraraka, Tsu, Jirou, Sero, Mina, Bakugou and Todoroki. The heroes planned for them to not have a big role at all, very few being on the front lines and mainly helping with clean-up.)

“On that note,” Todoroki says, “who is a part of the Eri mission? Just for clarity’s sake, so we know who’s a part of the plan. Those who aren’t on the rescue mission can help with reconnaissance.”

Midoriya, Kirishima, Uraraka, Tsu, Jirou, Sero, Mina and Bakugou raise their hands.

»-(¯`·.·´¯)-> Timeskip <-(¯`·.·´¯)-«

After planning for about four hours to an extent that Aizawa-sensei would be proud of, Midoriya stands up again and points at the now-full corkboard to explain the finished plan.

Yes, Denki loved interning at the ADA. Don’t get him wrong. He loves Yokohama and all the memories that he didn’t remember receiving coming up from the depths.
He loves spending time with Ojiisan, having lost all the memories of his time with his family -- he doesn’t know them, he never knew them, they aren’t his family now -- but he misses the company of his friends.

Until he meets someone, someone who called themselves Shōgo.

Shōgo has hair as red as the sun and eyes like the sea. Makes sense why his name is what it is. Shōgo is just a little bit shorter than Denki himself, and the ginger seems thrilled – ranting to Denki about someone called Mackerel (Denki doesn’t think that’s their name) and how he’s finally found his people.

Denki laughs at that. He likes Shōgo, he reminds Denki of himself. But Denki doesn’t miss the bulkiness on Shōgo’s belt, or the dangerous glint in his eyes. Denki knows Shōgo is a mafioso, and Denki knows that Shōgo isn’t his name.

But Denki is drawn to the man that feels like what he imagines family would feel like. So, he stays anyways.

Chuuya was unsure about what to feel about Dazai’s new ‘prodigy,’ maybe this was because he didn’t know much about him, and Chuuya hated not knowing.

This is what Chuuya knew about ‘Kaminari Denki’
- Kaminari was a hero-hopeful from U.A.’s problem class of 1-A
- Kaminari was interning at the ADA, after a unanimous yes from the employees.
- Kaminari definitely had an ability, not a quirk.
- Kaminari’s ability was centred around electricity.

Needless to say, Chuuya didn’t know much.

At all.

So, when he was alerted by Arahabaki to a familiar presence that he last felt six years ago, and that belonged to a body that was dead and buried under tonnes of rubble (he’s so, so sorry Hachi. Hachi never got to experience the world like Chuuya did, even though the ever bright and optimistic 7-year-old deserved to be free the most out of all of them. He had even cracked Yumeno’s walls and bought them down, Hachi was the sun, until it all got crushed under that. He didn’t even get buried; he never got a complete family –
stop panicking, Chuuya. Remove the imposter first.

Except… he missed a minute detail.

Kaminari Denki is Seiteki Hachi.

His dead brother.

Notes:

Well that’s done.

Also I do know the events of stormbringer, but that’s what makes this even more interesting.

Thank you for reading!

Next chapter should come before December, but it’s the middle of exams and its 3am.
