Night Rider

Summary:

Set during Keisuke's past but they are the ages of 19 (Takumi) and 21 (Keisuke). They live together in Tokyo.

Notes:

The vibe of Night Rider by Joji inspired the first paragraph (hence the title), plus my need for some more keikumi content. As I'm writing a slow burn its made me impatient, I just wanted the instant satisfaction NOW so I wrote some lil fluff :>

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The cold wind whipped his chestnut hair around as he held on tight. His arms squeezing closer to his lover's waist, desperate for some more of his body heat, his head resting just on Keisuke’s broad shoulders. His jacket clung to his back and his sleeves rippled at the fast traveling air. The motorcycle engine roared in his ear, and Takumi wanted nothing more than to be at home in his warm bed. But instead, in the bitter weather, he’s holding close to Keisuke as they drove faster through the busy streets of Tokyo, lane splitting to pass all the cars.

If it wasn’t for the way his bony fingers were practically freezing off, and his face being red with wind burn, Takumi probably would’ve fallen asleep. It was late, later than he would normally stay out with anyone. Although, if it wasn’t for his constant job and overtime, Takumi probably would be more of a night owl like Keisuke, but someone had to have a steady income for the bills. This night was an exception though, Keisuke essentially begged Takumi to go out for one night, just to get a break and Takumi stubbornly agreed.

“You okay back there?” Keisuke yelled over all the noises that entered Takumi’s ears. He only nodded against his shoulder, squeezing closer to his body. He watched as the neon lights and nightlife passed by, giving a slight glow in his eyes. Occasionally, their reflection would appear on the darkened glass of closed shops. It made him smile, as much as he didn’t like Keisuke’s involvement with the Bosozoku, they sure looked good together on his bike.

The engine droned at the downshift, slowing to stop at the red light. Keisuke switched the bike to neutral and placed his feet down. His calloused hands intertwined with Takumi’s as they rested at the center of his stomach. Takumi grumbled something inaudible as he rubbed his forehead into Keisuke’s jacket. It smelled faintly of cigarettes and exhaust. “I know, we’ll be home soon,” he cooed in response. The light changed quickly, Keisuke revved up the bike and sped off.

Several familiar turns were made down less busy side streets, and Keisuke finally pulled his motorcycle into the small driveway that their apartment houses. Takumi perked right up as Keisuke shut off the engine. He released his grasp from Keisuke’s waist, moving his foot from the foot peg onto the pavement. He lifted his other leg over the bike seat, careful not to touch the hot exhaust pipe with his leg. He didn’t even wait for Keisuke to set the bike on the kickstand as he practically crawled up the steps to their front door. Waiting for his boyfriend to unlock the door, he slouched on the cold metal railing, holding his hands under his head to warm them up. He gazed, eyes half-lidded, at the city lights. The light pollution faintly letting a few stars show in the lit up sky.

“Come on baby,” Keisuke uttered, standing with the door open for Takumi, who had zoned out staring off in the distance. “Hmm?” Takumi turned his head, stumbling his way into the apartment. Pulling off his jacket and shoes at the entrance, before basically collapsing face first onto the couch that sat on the right hand side of the room. It was a cute little apartment, one they could afford fortunately but it wasn’t necessarily easy to live in due to the small size.

“You can’t sleep there dummy, you will be sore. Trust me I’ve done it too many times to not know better,” Keisuke said as he pulled at Takumi’s arm, chuckling at the site of his sleepy boyfriend. He groaned in protest but slowly got up, Keisuke steadying him as they both walked to their bedroom through the narrow hallway. They both stripped off their clothes, down to their underwear, and Takumi lazily threw everything on the floor before crawling into bed. Keisuke got under the covers and Takumi immediately shifted closer to his boyfriend. He went to place his cold hands to cradle Keisuke's face, wanting to look into his lover's eyes before evidently falling asleep. Keisuke didn’t flinch since his face was just as chilled from the ride home. The city lights spilled into the bedroom, just enough to illuminate Keisuke’s soft blue eyes to which Takumi would’ve let himself get lost in if he wasn’t just on the verge of sleep. Takumi ran his thumb over Keisuke’s slightly dry lips before leaving a light peck on them.

Even though he enjoyed the break that night, he knew that he wanted more from his tiring life. He didn’t want to be living paycheck to paycheck while his boyfriend lost himself in the nightlife for the cheap thrills of dangerous speed. He wanted more than Tokyo and its threatening bright lights. He wanted to feel safe. And most importantly, he wanted Keisuke to be safe. He wanted to offer his boyfriend a proposition that’s been on his mind. He knew why he had joined the Bosozoku but he knew it was time to change. It was really only an escape for Keisuke but he eventually got caught up in it all.

“Keisuke…” Takumi started off, using the short burst of attentiveness that surged through him, hesitation laced his voice. His boyfriend's expression softened a bit more, waiting for him to continue.

“I want to get out of Tokyo. I want to be somewhere other than this apartment. And I have a suggestion. One night while I was waiting for you to come home, I heard the screeching of car tires far in the distance, up in the mountains. I checked it out and it turns out people are street racing. There’s teams and they all battle it out on the winding mountain passes. I want to try it out, and I think maybe we can get out of this spot in our lives doing just that. I’m not happy with my life and I see that you aren’t either, even if you don’t show it often. You can’t stay in this life forever, and if anything we can make a career out of being good racers. You already have the thrill for something more in life, so why don’t we redirect it.” Takumi basically let the words fall from his mouth, he felt better but Keisuke’s expression had changed in the dim light and left him uneasy. It took a bit for Keisuke to respond as he rolled onto his back to think. Takumi still stayed close to him, his head nuzzled in the pillow, close to Keisukes arm.

“Well, it might be hard for us to leave given my circumstances but we can definitely try it. It might be a good idea though, things have been getting serious with the rival territories. I’m glad you brought this up,” a hopeful tone rested in his voice as he replied. As a few silent seconds went by, Keisuke shifted his head to look at Takumi, who was fast asleep. His slightly disheveled hair and soft look on his face made Keisuke smile, his heart warmed in his chest. He planted a soft kiss on his forehead, before closing his eyes himself. His smile stayed on his face as he drifted off into sleep.

Notes:

Ahh so glad I wrote this! I've been wanting to write more about Keisuke's past too but never knew how to write it due it, imo, being a serious topic for me but I thought this was a good taste of it.

Might come back to this??
