Chapter Text
Ok so I'm just going to preface this by saying that I love stands and the whole idea of them! They are a creative way to incorporate fun new gimmick and approaches to fights.
Because of the special ability that they have you can have a lot of variety with fights that make things interesting. I also think that stand designs being linked to not only their users energy and spirit but also special songs that hint at abilities and themes! Oh I absolutely adore that all BUT I found myself after going back and rewatching the first two parts and I find the fights more interesting!
Even though stands should make the fights more interesting with the special abilities that only stands can preform, to me I'd have to disagree the action sequences in parts one and two just feel more important and impact full?
Like sure I absolutely geek out when the stands do their punchy thing but it feels a bit almost boring sometimes? Like the creativity kinda is gone the excitement is gone? It's like oh yknow how are they gonna defeat the enemy, punchy ghost punches. My grievance many apply to punchy ghosts where the main abilities is punch hard, it just kinda isn't as fun or interesting as stands that requires more interesting set ups. Like star platinum, I love star but he has other abilities sure! Star finger the ability that can extend Star's range that's interesting but he really only used it like twice? (I think) in the early episodes, and I know star is very precise as well as fast... well that's about it stopping time is a cool ability but it's as well utilized in the same way get close to punch, or move away!
Giving an example while Josuke's Crazy diamond is very similar to star with the fact that it's a punchy ghost with I believe a similar range, but he uses Crazy diamond in interesting ways using the fixing abilities not only to heal but to escape situations in interesting ways and defeat enemies using the environment around him to his advantage. Like using the rubber glove to catch Angelo's stand I found that really interesting... oh, I kinda went on a tangent but parts 1 and 2
Firstly I enjoy part 1
I find part one to be my third favorite part, I enjoy it. I find it isn't unnecessary dragged out if that makes sense it, we are introduced to the characters quite quickly and get almost straight into the conflict between Jonathan and Dio. I find Jonathan to be an interesting fighter and he does show blatant disregard for his own safety to prevalent to what he sees as righteous. Risking his life for others safety makes him feel like a true hero, it only makes you want to cheer him on even more especially when he is quite innocent gentle and honestly naive sometimes always looking for the good in others being his ultimate downfall.
Speedwagon I might get hate for this but, while Speedwagon is integral to the overall storyline of jojo thanks to the Speedwagon foundation, Speedwagon doesn't do much and I find his commentary a bit distracting sometimes. Overall he's not a terrible character I get why he is there but overall he really doesn't do too much, other than tag along after he shoots Dio in episode 3.
William Antonio Zeppeli, is a quirky character but then again most of the Zeppeli's are quite eccentric, don't really have much to say about him I'm quite neutral about him.
I find the most interesting character in part one to be Dio brando! I'm going to go off on a tangent again but it's relevant, during lock down of 2020 I had nothing to do being bored out of my mind I don't know if I had heard of jojo before or if I had it really clicked in when I saw it on Netflix, that- that was what I was thinking about but nonetheless I picked it. And honestly I found it interesting of course but I kept watching because I was honestly fascinated with Dio as a character, If I'm honest I think it was probably because I thought he was quite goofy and hot- which he his but looking back at phantom blood dio is a lot more methodical and deliberate, keeping his cool and thinking things through a lot more then part three dio. While they both crave the same thing and act like you would expect dio too, I think the fact that dio could stop time made his ego inflate more then it already was and he became more cocky and lost his temper easily flying his need of ridding the joestars building up a deep anger. If I'm honest he is just more unhinged his power complex and egomaniac view made him just feel weaker in my opinion and maybe I'm wrong and he was exactly like that in part 1, but I'd beg to disagree even if he displayed some of those which he definitely did, I think he was more level headed and seemed more competent? I mean the lengths he went through manipulating everyone around him, driving Jonathan crazy torturing him right under everyone's noses. He surely felt more competent more precise and definitely more cold and malicious, even though he doesn't kill directly most of the time his way of manipulating others as well as his cold hearted nature made him a much more exciting antagonist in the first part as well as because you see a lot more of him.
Dio while still being of influence plays much more hands off in part three which honestly I find him a fun villain so my first time watching part three felt like a bit of a let down when I found out he was barely in it apart from shadowy scenes of him talking, and I'm aware the closer they got to dio the more you saw of him but I mean him directly interacting with the main cast.
Anyway moving onto part two! After rewatching part two in early September this year I can't help but say I absolutely adore everything I forgot how much I loved all the characters? I feel like I'm going to say this again but the first time I watched jojo after finishing part one I was like oh yeah ok starting part two dio is going to be here and I think that when he wasn't there I found myself not enjoying and appreciating everything that part two had to offer since I was hung up on that!
But after rewatching part two, in September this year I couldn't help but absolutely mesh with all of the characters for as serious as it was at times Joseph as a protagonist just provided so many funny moments and honestly really interestingly choreographed fights, because of his nature. When fighting he will toy with the enemy and trick them, fighting a mental battle as well as a physical, my favorite fights are gonna have to be between him and santano and him and AC/DC it's really a good mix of both serious and more goofy banter even if it's just Joseph doing the talking.
While it was nice to see Joseph in part three he felt like a different character when It came to everything except personality, like I'm aware he's older but his fighting is extremely different and during my first viewing I thought he wouldn't use his hamon at all? I thought like oh is he too old? No Lisa lisa was fifty and she was a hamon user, and I'm aware hamon is mostly effective against vampires but it does still effect people as well as the world and environment, especially water and blood I just feel like hamon was a really interesting concept in both parts 1 and 2 and seeing it basically discarded is kinda sad.
But oh boy if you read this let me know feel free to leave your own opinion I'd love to discuss ♡
