“All these flashback scenes are going to be silent, so you can say whatever you want. But try to stay in character, OK?” Simeon had decided to film these himself, so it was just you, him, and Solomon out in the park. Solomon had cast a spell to light the scene as if it were human world daylight. Seeing a Devildom park awash in sunlight took some getting used to.
You started with some easy scenes - walking hand in hand, filmed from in front, filmed from behind, talking and smiling at each other, and Simeon seemed pleased with how they came out.
“You two have really good chemistry on screen. I’m kind of sad now that we didn’t put it in the story!”
Solomon chuckled softly, and you exchanged looks that expressed quite a lot of unspoken sentiments. On screen wasn’t the only place the two of you had good chemistry, but you’d been trying to keep things a secret until you’d decided where your relationship was headed. For all anyone else knew, the sorcerer and his apprentice simply spent a lot of time working on spellcraft.
A lot.
A whole heck of a lot.
“I want a couple of kiss scenes. I don’t know how many or which ones I’ll end up using, so can we try a variety? I hope you don’t mind too much…”
“I am a consummate professional, Simeon. We’ll do whatever it takes for your creative genius to shine in this production.”
Simeon’s arms dropped, the camera hanging slack. “You’re not mocking me, are you?”
“I wouldn’t dream of it,” you swore.
“She means it, Simeon. We both want this film to be a stunning success!”
Simeon’s remaining doubt was obvious by his expression, but he brought the camera back up and pushed the button to begin filming. It hadn’t been as difficult as they’d thought to find one he could learn to use easily, and he was excited to be able to do this himself. He had some trouble zooming in and out as you and Solomon did some test kisses, so he gave up in defeat and announced that the shots would be done without it.
He picked his position and directed the two of you to gaze into each other’s eyes and do a quick, tender kiss that he could splice in without it being the whole focus of the scene.
“Got it, Simeon,” Solomon assured him.
“Action!”
“Cut! No, Solomon, if you’re going to run your fingers through her hair, do it so you don’t block her face. Try again. Action!”
Solomon was trying to look adoring, but you could see the mischief playing in his eyes.
“Cut! Don’t twist around like that! We need to see the kiss, not the back of your head. Action!”
Each time, Solomon did something to deliberately mess up the shot.
“Cut! No tongue! Why do I even have to tell you this???”
“Cut! It’s supposed to be a short kiss!”
“Cut! No dipping! You both went out of frame!”
“Solomon! I know you’re enjoying this, but be nice! Let’s do it right for poor Simeon,” you chided him.
“I just want to try all the different ways of kissing you…”
“And you shall, but not right now.” You gave him a poke in the ribs for emphasis, and he conceded with a sigh.
At last, Simeon got the kiss he wanted, but he had one last idea.
“OK, you’re gazing off into the distance, thinking of your future together. Solomon, stand behind her and wrap your arms around her waist.” He told you to place your hands on his, and wait until his cue to look up over your shoulder at Solomon and him to look down at you.
In that moment, you had an idea.
As Solomon smiled at you, you took one of his hands and guided it down to rest below your navel, pressing it against the soft round of flesh.
Solomon immediately reacted as if he had actually just discovered he was going to be a father, pulling you around to face him, hugging you, lifting you and swinging you around, then going in for one final kiss that lasted until Simeon shouted “Cut!”
“I don’t know what inspired that ad-lib, but you two were amazing! It’s perfect for the story, because Solomon’s character is even more likely to have snapped when his lover was killed knowing she was also carrying his child! Brilliant. OK, off to edit.”
Simeon dashed off with that sufficing as a farewell.
“I was really afraid he wasn’t going to like it, but it just seemed right at the time. I’m impressed that you picked up on it, Solomon.”
He suddenly looked as if his thoughts were very far away.
“Solomon?”
“Oh, I’m sorry. It just…for some reason, it seemed very real to me, and I think that’s…how I would have reacted if it were.”
You were too taken aback to say anything. In a moment, you’d gone from “not sure we’re ready to tell anyone” to “how do you feel about starting a family,” and it was a lot to process.
“I know you’re surprised. I don’t want to pressure you, or push your boundaries, so I didn’t say anything. But you’ve come to mean so much…no, you’ve come to mean everything to me, and I’ve had those thoughts.” He flushed with embarrassment and looked down at the ground. “I won’t speak of it again. I don’t want to make you uncomfortable.”
You were finding it difficult to speak, but finally managed to squeak out, “Maybe we should talk about it?” It was definitely more of a question than a statement.
Solomon took your hands and spoke the enchantment that would teleport you directly to his room in Purgatory Hall. This was no time to have to explain to Luke or Raphael why you didn’t want to stop and chat with them.
“I thought you hadn’t quite decided where this was going,” you began, once the two of you were settled on the sofa.
“I didn’t want to frighten you away. I was trying to wait until you had decided where this was going to go.” His brow creased with worry. “Please tell me I haven’t frightened you away.”
Your heart felt so full that the last thing you wanted to do was run. You reached out and traced the outline of his magnificent hands with your fingertips before edging them underneath to clasp them both and hold on tightly.
“Solomon, I’m the mere mortal here. I couldn’t even imagine you feeling that way. I’m the one who’s been holding back to keep you from fleeing in terror!”
He looked at you. You looked at him. Suddenly, your matching fearful faces became ridiculously funny, and you broke out in simultaneous giggles. Giggles turned to guffaws, until Solomon leaned in and kissed you in a way that definitely would have ended up on Simeon’s cutting room floor.
Even had it been chaste enough, which it wasn’t, it went on for far too long. And then it became even less chaste as Solomon continued to press forward until you were completely underneath him. Then roaming hands began slipping under clothes, removing them and tossing them aside carelessly. The leather sofa was less inviting than the bed, so Solomon invited you to the bed, and you followed without hesitation.
Solomon worshipped your body so thoroughly that you became lost in it until he’d built you up to such a hunger that you begged him to take you. Nothing existed but Solomon. You saw only his face. You felt only that place where your bodies connected, the exhilaration of his attentions bringing you to that place where you exploded in a blinding light of pleasure. His release inside you followed soon after, and, as always, made you feel as if you were his entire world as much as he was yours.
In the peaceful place that followed, you basked in the admiring gaze of your beloved sorcerer, tracing the pact marks on his arms and torso as if meditating through a labyrinth.
“You know, I never had a family that was like the one I’ve wanted since you came into my life. I thought it wasn’t important.” You stopped your hand to lay it over his heart, and he hummed his contentment. “I want to make a family with you. Even if it’s just the two of us. Whatever you want it to be.”
“Oh, I think that eventually we can branch out, but it could take a lot of practice!”
You giggled as he pulled you on top of him and began assaulting you with kisses on your neck and shoulders, repeating “Practice, practice, practice…” and you started to get the feeling that he was interested already in more practice.
“So, I guess we can tell everyone that we’re a couple now?” You nodded your agreement with a broad smile, moving your hips over his just enough to elicit a gasp from him. “Can we tell them that we’re…going to get married?”
It didn’t matter that this wasn’t the traditional romantic proposal from books and movies…what mattered was that it was exactly what you wanted to hear from exactly the person you wanted to hear it from.
“Yes, Solomon. Let’s tell them that. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
For now, though, you spent the rest of the night with him, talking about feelings, hopes, and dreams…
…and practicing.
