Chapter Text
Doyoung was nineteen when he realized he was in love with his best friend.
Jaehyun had him by the arm as he dragged him through a crowd of underage drunkards. The music was way too loud for Doyoung's taste, the air smelled of cigarettes and alcohol.
"How about upstairs? Think it's probably quieter up there!" Jaehyun hollers over the music.
Wanting to get out of the place as soon as possible, Doyoung shakes his head, "It's fine, you hurry up and go have fun."
He was having an awful time already but he wasn't about to ruin the night for Jaehyun. The reason why he agreed to be here in the first place was because he was too weak against Jaehyun's pouty lips —ever since Jaehyun discovered Doyoung's weakness to his pouts in grade school, he's been using it to get his way.
"You sure?" Jaehyun hesitates for a few seconds, not letting go of the older's arm but Doyoung can see his desperation of wanting to join his other friends, dancing and having fun.
Doyoung snorts, "Just go have fun, you idiot!"
An hour later and Doyoung decides he's had enough of watching drunk kids dancing. He peel himself off the wall he'd made friends with and make his way through the crowd, again, to find Jaehyun —which was quite difficult with the clumps of kids dancing here and there all over the place, well more like drunk people just tripping on each other.
To his surprise, Jaehyun was nowhere in the living room, he was informed Jaehyun is actually upstairs. 'He went upstairs awhile ago,' Johnny —the 'he's a great captain, he laughs at my jokes' basketball captain Jaehyun worship for the sole reason he entertained Jaehyun's dry humor, honestly Doyoung think he's just another dumb himbo.
He find Jaehyun, down the hall in the upstairs, he's assuming is bedrooms, but Jaehyun's not alone.
Jaehyun, the innocent and sweetest boy he thought he knew was desperately eating the current hottest news at SMU's, Kim Jungwoo, face.
At the sound of his loud gasped, Jaehyun reluctantly pull away from Jungwoo's face, a little annoyed at the person interrupting him before his eyes focus on Doyoung and his annoyed expression drops then a boyish grin appears. He give a small nod towards Doyoung.
"Oh Doyoungie, sorry." Somewhat bashful, Jaehyun apologize before letting Jungwoo pull him in an unoccupied room and shut the door in Doyoung's face with a click.
Seemingly unable to move, Doyoung stay planted on the spot for a long time. Shocked and confused at what he just witnessed and the disappointment and jealousy nagging its way into his heart for the first time.
"Did you find Jaehyun?" The dumb himbo captain of the basketball team asked when he stride back down the stairs, alone, no Jaehyun with him.
He didn't answer, just glares at the taller man for sending him up knowing Jaehyun wouldn't be alone and definitely not ready to go home.
Johnny didn't take offense to Doyoung's attitude towards him, instead the taller man hands Doyoung a cup. Doyoung takes the cup and drown whatever was in the cup in one go, then made a disgusted face due to the bitter taste spreading on his tongue.
Doyoung thinks the bitter taste on his tongue reflects what he’s exactly feeling at the moment —an ugly and uncomfortable feeling he can’t make sense of.
Johnny snorts a surprised laugh, "Damn, Doyoung." —He takes the cup back and waits for Doyoung to follow him, but the younger continues to stand at the bottom of the stairs, blinking a few times then rubbing his eyes like that might help his crumbling thoughts and clear his vision a little.
"Oh fuck, don't tell me you've never drink alcohol before." The older cursed, almost panic in his voice as he hold out his hand for Doyoung to take. The younger stumbles into him instead, possibly tripping on air.
"Easy easy, I got you." Johnny reassures Doyoung with a kind tone, realizing the younger might actually be drunk.
The hand he held out for Doyoung snakes to Doyoung's lower back. Before Johnny could hold onto Doyoung, another hand belonging to a third person pulls Doyoung away from Johnny, making Doyoung tumble back onto a firm chest behind him.
One intake of sharp breath and Doyoung knows exactly who the person behind him is. It's Jaehyun, his Jaehyun. HIS Jaehyun is here, not upstairs making out with the cutest boy of SMU, Jaehyun is here. Feeling pleased and relieved, Doyoung turns glassy eyes at Jaehyun to convey his feelings, or at least that's what he was trying to do, instead he staggers further into Jaehyun.
—And Jaehyun's too busy to noticed him as his attention was directed at Johnny. The younger’s face hard and unimpressed.
Hands on Doyoung's shoulders, holding him steady, Jaehyun scowls at his captain, "Why did you give him alcohol?"
"Well shit, I’ve never met anyone who'd gotten drunk off one shot.” Johnny defends, giving Jaehyun a hard look. “Was just trying to help since he didn't look too happy."
“Thanks, ima head out and take him home." Jaehyun sigh, looping his arm around his friend's tiny waist and pulling him towards the front door; Doyoung's feet dragging behind them.
"I'm sorry," Doyoung mumbled out an apology once they're back in the little apartment they shared, "didn't mean to cut your fun short."
Jaehyun only snorts, helping Doyoung take his restricted clothes off and tucking the older into bed. "Sleep."
"No Woojae," the older continues to fuss and made grabby hands at Jaehyun, "I was really really really bored, then I found you with him!" Doyoung slurs his words and hisses out the word him.
Jaehyun chuckles at how cute his Doyoungie is. Face flush and words jumbles together as he tries to convince Jaehyun.
"I'm sorry you had to see that.” He apologize again, this time he means it. Doyoung only stares in silence, then shifts in his bed and motion for the younger to climb into bed with him under the covers.
Dimples appearing on the apples of his cheeks, Jaehyun discard his clothes and slides into bed next to Doyoung. In a fuzzy state of mind, the older snuggles into him and said, "Don't do that with him again, I don't like it. You're mine."
Jaehyun only hums at the older’s possessiveness, his smiles widen and as he throws an arm around the older man, inching himself impossibly closer to Doyoung, he whispers ‘Doie’ like a lover’s secret, like a man wandering the great wilderness finally coming to rest, like a soul finding it’s purpose, like it was the meaning to his life.
—Then he presses a kiss into Doyoung's fluffy hair, he said his goodnights and chase after Doyoung some more in his dream.
