“I’m telling you, you’re looking too much into it!” Mizuki insisted for the fifth time. “Will you stop making us retake selfies? You look pretty in all of them.”
“I look anything but pretty.” Ena spoke while shaking her head, scrolling through the pictures they just took with a disappointed face. “Let’s try again.”
“Come on.” Mizuki scoffed. “How many have we taken already?”
“That doesn’t matter if I don’t like any.” Ena’s eyes didn’t leave the screen. “Look at my face here! I look terrible!”
“You do not. Let me see.” Mizuki extended her hand, patiently waiting until Ena reluctantly gave her the phone. “How can you say you don’t look good? Look at this one,” She selected one of them pictures. “And this one.” Another one. “Look how cute your smile is here!”
“It looks scary to me.”
“Ena.” Mizuki sighed. “I’m not kidding, you do look great.”
“That’s easy for you to say, you always look good.” Ena retorted while snatching her phone from the other girl’s hands, not thinking too much about the words that just left her mouth.
With a wide grin on her face and a long hmmm, Mizuki rested her head on Ena’s shoulder. “Do I?”
“Huh?” Ena asked without looking at her.
“You said I always look good. Do you really think that?”
Suddenly becoming aware of what she said, Ena awkwardly cleared her throat, praying Mizuki didn’t notice her cheeks becoming warmer. “Obviously. I didn’t say it just because.”
“Well, whether you believe it or not, you always look good too.”
“I wish I saw it that way.” Ena made a frustrated sound.
After several seconds of silence, Mizuki took a deep breath, and as if she had regained her energy, she gave Ena one of her big smiles. “Why don’t you let me take the pictures? It probably doesn’t sound like that makes a difference, but we don’t lose anything by trying.”
Ena gave it a thought, but there wasn’t much to consider since Mizuki was right, what was the harm in trying? “Fine. Here.” She said while handing her phone to Mizuki again.
“Great. Now, come closer and forget the other selfies, think of this one as the first.”
“I’ll try.” As Mizuki asked, Ena moved closer the other girl until their bodies were touching, posing in various ways and making several faces until Mizuki was done.
“Okay, I think I’ve taken enough.” Mizuki put the phone in front of Ena so she could see them. “What do you think?” She asked expectantly.
“These are…” Ena spoke as her finger scrolled through the images. “Good.” She concluded with a little smile. “I like them. Take some more.”
Ena’s excitement after all the frustration made Mizuki’s chest feel warm. “Sure, come here.” In a swift motion, one of her hands sneaked around Ena’s waist to pull her closer once again. Ena’s throat made an almost inaudible choked sound, surprised by the gesture, but she didn’t complain and instantly smiled for the pictures again. Since she was so focused on looking good and cute, she didn’t see Mizuki’s next move coming. As her finger’s clicked the screen to take one last selfie, she was fast to kiss Ena’s cheek and capture the moment.
Completely caught off guard, Ena squeaked, her red cheeks now being more prominent. “What are you doing?!”
Not surprised by Ena’s reaction, Mizuki covered her mouth with a hand to avoid giggling more than she should. “You always get all blushed when I do that. It’s cute.”
“It’s not. And stop laughing!” Ena’s attempts to sound serious failed miserably, and she knew that. She couldn’t be mad at Mizuki for doing something she liked so much, but admitting she did before getting flustered first was another story.
“I’m not laughing.” Mizuki said, still with a clearly teasing smile on her face.
“Yes you are.” Ena crossed her arms with a frown. “Can you take this seriously?”
“I am taking it seriously.” Mizuki showed Ena the new selfies. “See? These are adorable, I won’t hear otherwise.”
“You’re…” Ena’s frown disappeared the moment her eyes met the screen. “Right. They’re awesome.” Ena took her phone back to take a closer look. “How come I like the pictures you take but not the ones I take?”
“Maybe it’s my hidden talent,” Mizuki spoke as she flipped her hair. “Making you see yourself how you are. Incredibly pretty.” She added before giving Ena’s cheek another peck.
Instead of getting flustered again, Ena smiled this time. She locked her phone and turned her head to meet Mizuki’s eyes. “Thank you for helping. And putting up with my grumpiness.” She added with a tiny smile.
“I don’t put up with you, silly.” Mizuki moved Ena’s hair away from her face so she could kiss her forehead. “Just believe me when I say you’re cute and pretty, okay?”
Ena responded with a little nod. “Okay.” Her hands moved around Mizuki’s neck. “I could say the same to you.” While it wasn’t the case in that moment, there were times in which Mizuki wasn’t the most confident about her looks either. But Ena was there to remind her what a beauty she was every single time. “You’re beautiful, Mizuki.”
Mizuki didn’t have time to react to that before Ena’s lips were on hers. One of her hands remained in Ena’s waist while the other moved to her hair, her fingers gently stroking her brown locks.
Both of them were smiling when they pulled back. It was funny, in a good way, how just a little kiss could make almost any problem they were thinking off disappear from their minds. Just the comfort of knowing they loved each other no matter what was already enough for them.
“I have an idea, come here.” Mizuki grabbed Ena’s wrist and stood up from the bed, walking towards the room’s mirror. “Stand here and open the camera, we’re taking one last picture.”
“Okay.” Ena did as Mizuki asked, a bit confused.
Mizuki then hugged Ena from behind, resting her chin on her shoulder, their faces being so closer she could feel the warmth growing in Ena’s cheeks again. “Ready?”
With a nod, Ena put her best smile, a genuine loving one, and took the picture. Without even looking at it, she already knew she was going to post it online with the caption: Couldn’t ask for a better girlfriend.
