Work Text:
Chan was in the process of watering the rose bushes when he looked over at the clock tower.
3:15pm.
He didn't know if he could wait fifteen minutes.
All day he's been thinking about the king,
They had been seeing each other in secret for a while now. Changbin was supposed to be looking for a wife, mainly for the kingdom's sake, but Changbin never really tried much. After the first two women threw themselves at Changbin, just for the riches and tittle, he gave up pretty fast.
Going through countless amounts of desperate and attention seeking women, Changbin quickly realized that he didn't actually have an attraction to any of them. He would be bored sitting there hearing the same thing over and over again. In the end, he kept finding himself at the garden, admiring Chan from afar. He adored the boy's beautiful and soft facial features. It was a complete contrast to his very well built body.
Chan remembers when Changbin first started talking to him. Changbin said he was addicted to being in Chan's presence. He didn't understand why Changbin enjoyed being around him so much at the time. Chan was so shy and timid, and had the worst habit of biting his nails. Although when Chan got comfortable or talked about something he was very passionate about, he could talk for hours.
These were just a few things Changbin loved about him.
Speaking of talking for hours, Chan wanted to talk with Changbin for hours right now. He really missed him.
The two unfortunately weren't able to meet yesterday. They both were extremely busy. It had absolutely shattered Chan when a servant had showed up without Changbin to tell him the king wasn't coming for lunch. He knew he didn't do anything and that it wasn't his fault, but it always feels like it. Just seeing Changbin at least for a few minutes always made his day.
Chan was just sitting there lost in his thoughts when he heard the clock tower chime.
3:30pm.
His heart rate picked up as he was filled with excitement knowing Changbin was actually going to arrive this time. a servant would usually show up 5 minutes in advance to tell him the king was too busy for lunch.
Chan began running around looking for something to occupy himself, he didn't want to seem lazy. There wasn't much to do anymore, he had done all his work thirty minutes ago. The idea of sweeping the path popped into his head when he saw the broom. He'll just do that until Changbin shows up.
Chan finished sweeping just in time. He heard the clicking of the king's shoes. There were two other servants walking a little ahead of him. One carrying the food and one to open the door. They made their way inside, going straight to the back near the rose bushes. The servant with the food sat the tray down on the table.
Chan didn't realize he had stopped sweeping. He was stunned by Changbin's beauty. Even though it was only one day they didn't see each, it felt like weeks. Chan did notice that Changbin looked beyond exhausted. He hated when Changbin's schedule got too full where he couldn't have lunch, he was happy that Changbin wasn't too busy today so that he could have lunch.
Breaking away from his thoughts, he walked to the back to put the broom away. Chan noticed there was much more food than usual when he passed the table. He heard Changbin dismiss the servants when they finished setting the table. Right when Chan closed the tool closet door, he felt arms snake around his waist. Changbin began to slowly kiss up his neck, going behind his ear.
"Today was a half day for me. I can be here as long as I want. As long as you want me here."
The warmth of Changbin's breath on the shell of his ear and his deep voice sent a shiver down his spine. Chan knew what he was implying, he could tell Changbin was still very tired though. He didn't want to push it. Chan let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in, after the King spoke.
With a hint of cockiness Chan replied.
"People might think things if you're here too long. You're still supposed to be looking for a wife, remember?" Chan hated bringing that up, it always hurt to bring it up.
Every fiber in his being wanted to be his wife. But he knew Changbin would never want to tell the public about what they are doing.
"They won't. I made an announcement this morning. I won't be looking for a wife anymore." Chan spun around quickly, he was perplexed on why Changbin would do that.
"Why? What's happening?"
"You'll find out later my love."
Hearing Changbin call him that had butterflies in his stomach. He really wished he meant it.
Changbin leaned in, softly rubbing their noses together before lightly pecking Chan's lips. Changbin then brushed his thumb over Chan's bottom lip. God he loves his lips, they were so pillowy, soft and full. Leaning back in he chased for another kiss. This time it was longer and had shared more passion.
If they could, they would stand there all day kissing. It was moments like this that they both cherished the most. The ones they never wanted to let go of.
Changbin broke the kiss and looked at Chan lovingly.
"I had lunch made for you. Come on."
Changbin then pulled Chan over to the table.
Having a better look at the tray of food, Chan realized the meal that was prepared for him was his favorite. Chan was really struggling to not fall even deeper for this man. He didn't even know Changbin would remember things like this.
Chan sat across from Changbin, feeling a bit overwhelmed at Changbin's efforts.
Changbin was head over heels for Chan and he absolutely loved the beautiful smile on the boy's face.
The two ate in a comfortable silence mostly, every now and then there was a bit of small talk. But really they just wanted to be in each other's company.
Once the two were finished with their meal, Changbin convinced Chan to lay near the rose bushes with him. Chan said no at first, not having anything to lay on. Changbin suggested his coat but Chan didn't want it to get dirty. Changbin didn't care. He cared about being closer to Chan more than anything. He didn't care if it got messed up, he could get it cleaned later.
"So why are we laying near the flowers again?"
"It's romantic, isn't it?"
"Not if something gets dirty."
"Shush, it's romantic either way."
They both giggled at the silly conversation. Changbin stared at Chan, looking into his eyes with pure love.
"What? Why are you staring at me? Do I have dirt on my face? See I told you this wasn't romat-"
"I love you Chan. I hope you know that."
Changbin waited for Chan to say it back. He really wanted to hear him say it too.
Even though it was only a few seconds, it felt like hours waiting for him to respond. Changbin softly placed his hand on Chan's cheek.
"It's ok if you don't want to say it back right now. But just know that I do love you. And I'll do anything to protect you and be with you."
Chan was a bit anxious hearing Changbin speak. He tried to blink his tears away, not wanting to ruin the lovely moment.
"I- I want to say it back, it's just.. I don't know if I should. I mean, what's gonna happen if everyone knows that we have something going on?"
"Nothing is going to happen, love. Who's gonna punish you or lock you away in a cell if they find out? No one. Because I'm in charge. I'm the king. I make rules, and none of those rules are going to take you away from me."
Chan was silently crying while listening to Changbin. He absolutely loves this man.
"Love you bin. Please never leave me."
"I won't love. I promise."
Chan pulled Changbin into a deep, loving and passionate kiss. He thought about how thankful and lucky he was to have Changbin as the love of his life.
The two of them laid there the rest of the day, sharing small sweet kisses, telling each other how much they loved one another. Chan even made Changbin watch the sunset while cuddling him.
