Work Text:
Miko has been fearing this day ever since she wished that Ei would spend an eternity with her.
But she knows that nothing lasts forever.
Ei belonged to a wealthy and well-known family in Inazuma. She studied abroad to get a good education. Miko was the same, and coincidentally, they met each other. She didn’t know what she was in for when she met her, but it surely became something more than just being friends.
That’s exactly why she didn’t like it. Now that they were at the end of their last year in college, it meant that they would have to go their separate ways. Ei had to go back to Inazuma to continue her family’s business, while Miko had to stay with her sister.
Just the thought of it sends shivers down her spine. Her lips quiver violently along with it.
“Miko? Are you alright? You seem out of it lately..” Ei appears beside her and addresses her concern, her face—dejected.
Miko doesn’t know what to say now that Ei was there again. That she was by her side, but just in a few minutes, she’ll soon disappear, never to be seen again. The thought doesn’t really help. She was sure that she was close to having a breakdown.
In the end, she couldn’t reply. Only the noise of the rain’s pitter-patter from the windowsill resounded the room.
Though Ei seems calm, her eyes speak of her anxiety. She takes a seat opposite of Miko and her hands reach for Miko’s. She grasps them tenderly, wanting to comfort her.
Before Ei could say anything, Miko stands up and and pulls her along.
One thing, she was smiling now. It was deceiving, cause she swore that Miko looked like she was about to cry just seconds ago. She didn’t know whether to be happy too, or to keep worrying. Miko doesn’t often show it, but she can also feel sorrow.
She was hiding her feelings from Ei, that was the reason Ei’s mind got occupied. Miko had a soft spot for her, but this time, it was different. It didn’t feel like Miko anymore.
So she just let herself get pulled to the outside where the rain still poured. She wanted to know what was on her mind. The reason that she’s doing all this.
She let Miko lead her to the field, which was quite far from their dorms. Eventually, Miko let go and stood there frozen, a few meters in front of her.
Ei was worried that she might catch a cold. Out of everything that could worry her, Miko’s health was still most important. Whatever shenanigan she’s up to, it’s not good.
Then, in a span of seconds, Miko turned around, wrapped her arms around Ei’s neck, and let a passionate kiss tell Ei all the things that she’s feeling. All her worry, anguish and distress. Most importantly, the fear of being separated from her.
It was at that moment that Ei understood. She already knew what was bothering Miko’s mind. She returned the kiss as her hand climbed up Miko’s face and caressed it.
Miko pulled away suddenly which left Ei in a state of shock. Since they left minutes before her taxi would arrive, she figured that Miko realized what time it was. Still, she didn’t want her to back away just yet because of something so trivial, so she pulls her in again.
She didn’t stop until she was sure she got her message across. She wanted Miko’s worries to disappear, telling her that she’ll still be with her, and she’ll still be thinking about her everyday, like the usual.
It was like a language that only the both of them could understand, and Miko got the message. She pulled back, and finally let herself show Ei how vulnerable she was.
If it was any other person, Ei wouldn’t have noticed their tears rolling down their cheek, since the rain made it hard to notice. But since it was Miko, she knew right off the bat, and tried to wipe them all away while holding a very fragile Miko close to her chest.
“It’s okay, it’s okay.. I’ll be back - for you.” She places another affectionate kiss on Miko’s forehead, and her soothing voice tries to console her.
Miko tightens her grip around Ei’s waist. She wants to hold her even closer than they already are. So that she couldn’t forget it. The way Ei took care of her, and her gentle caresses. Miko never wanted to forget it.
She whispers her reply “I’ll be waiting. Take your time.”
