This is how we do it

Summary:

According to Dr. Gary Chapman there are five love languages: Acts of service, Receiving gifts, Quality time, Words of affrimation and Physical touch. I've written 5 short stories including the couples in my AU. Three couples appear once and one couple appears twice because I've been kind of obsessing over them lately.

Notes:

!!! Some chapters may contain spoilers for my story Bitter sweet symphony. So if you're in the midst of reading that, you might want to finish that first. However, you can totally read this without having read Bitter sweet symphony as well.
!!! The stories are not happening at the same time. So we might see a couple at a certain time in their life, while another couple may be in a completely different stage in life.

Chapter Text

QUALITY TIME

Arya & Gendry

It was one of those rainy, foggy days just before winter. He didn’t understand how some people liked rain or autumn or anything similar. Gendry absolutely hated it.

Spring was fine. It was starting to get warmer and despite rainy days, there was still a lot of sunshine. Summer was great. Great weather, great energy, holidays. Winter? It could be really cold but the sunny snowy days were worth it. Beside, was there anything better than skiing? Or hiking in the snow?
Autumn on the other hand… There was nothing good about it. It was dark, humid, windy, stormy and cold. There wasn’t anything to do. Not a single thing.

He put his legs on the coffee table as he mindlessly changed the channels. Even the damn TV channels were lame this time of the year. He looked at Arya who was scrolling her phone, doing nothing, most likely. On one hand, he liked how she could do anything, anytime. Multiple things even. On the other, that drove him crazy. She was rarely present. She always had to be doing ten things at a time and could never stay still.

As he was still trying to find something to watch, she disappeared down the hallway. Gendry yawned loudly and realized he was annoyed by himself. How could he be in such a bad mood over nothing?

“Can you get dressed in like… Five minutes?” Arya suddenly said.

He didn’t even realize she came back. He looked at her and she was dressed in her jeans and a blouse, a jacket in her hand. “What? Why are you dressed?”

“I asked the question first.”

“Arya-”

“Gendry, lift those smelly legs and let’s get going.”

“Where?”

“If you don’t hurry up, nowhere,” she replied. “Meet me in the car.”

As she walked away, he huffed annoyingly. What was she up to? He was in no mood for whatever crossed her mind now. She was spontaneous and he loved that, but not today. Today was a day for lying on the couch and doing nothing. However, he did what he was told because… He didn’t really know why. He had nothing better to do, anyway.

“Can you tell me where we’re going now?” he asked as soon as he sat in the car.

“Somewhere where we won’t be glued to our couch in silence,” she drove off. “It’s a surprise,” she smiled.

“A surprise?”

“Yeah.”

Arya was not someone who surprised people. Mainly because she was too direct and straightforward and could never keep anything in. “Do I get a hint?”

“No. Then it won’t be a surprise. Not to brag but we’re going somewhere and you’re going to love me for it.”

“Ok,” he said simply. Gendry didn’t really know what possible place she could be taking him for him to love her for it.

Later, she parked in front of the cinema and looked expectantly at him. “So? Have you figured it out?”

“That we’re going to the cinema?” He loved movies, that was true, but why was she making a whole surprise out of it. She could have just told him and they’d go.

“Gendry,” she half sighed and half laughed. “Come on. For real?”

“What?”

“What day is today?”

“Saturday.”

“The date!”

“Um… November 8th.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah…” he looked at her. Was he missing something?

“You’ve talked months about this and now you don’t know?”

“Months about what?” he asked. As soon as he did, it all clicked. The gone club. It was his favourite movie franchise and today was the premiere of the fifth movie. “Wait. The tickets were sold out.”

“Well,” she reached in the back and opened her bag. “I got two.”

“What?” He almost screamed like a child at this point.

Arya found it insanely funny. He was just staring at the tickets with his mouth wide open. “Do you want to stare at them or do you actually want to watch the movie?” she chuckled and exited the car.

Walking towards the entrance, Gendry was just insanely confused. “How did you get them?”

“I set an alarm at work and entered the page and I guess I was lucky.”

“I didn’t even get in.”

“I did,” she held his hand. “Well, is it a good surprise?”

“It’s more than good.” He was so excited about this. “It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

“I’m right here,” she chuckled, amused by his excitement. She was glad he was this happy. Arya always felt like he was so thoughtful all the time. She seemed to have always forget things and mess things up so she was glad this paid off. “And just to warn you… Don’t stuff yourself with popcorn because we’re going to that pizza place everyone’s been talking about.”

“You are full of surprises,” Gendry kissed her as they headed inside. For the first time, he realized, he didn’t even notice it was raining outside.

If you have any requests which couple I should post next or which love language, let me know! Always happy to read your comments, too! Oh, and PS: Not a native speaker, so sorry for any possible mistakes.
