Chapter 1: Apollo

Chapter Text

raindrops shattered down on the dark street. night winds blew, tearing at all it could reach. the moon shone, perfectly full.

all of these things went ignored, they didn’t matter to the small flash of contrasting red making her way through the street. she hoped they’d stopped following her by now. exhaustion tugged at her muscles, begging her to stop and rest. she wasn’t safe though. she never was. pushing away the thought she dashed into a dark alleyway. this wasn’t where she was going but if they were following it was the best place to get them lost.

suddenly her feets grip on the ground seemed to loosen. she crashed into the ground. Another surge of pain rushed through her knees, hands and cheek. she didn’t have time for this. they’d catch her and they’d do as they always did with her kind-

no. This was not the time. not now. she blinked a few times to get the red liquid out of her eyes. the few drops that did fall mixed with the crimson leaking out of her forehead and dropping down on the street. panting she rose to her feet again, wincing as she put pressure on one of them. Then she continued on her way, past the buildings and over fences.

After what seemed like years she was finally there. her head felt light. she couldn’t go on much longer. She approached the run-down building on shaky legs, walking through the doorhole. a few planks were the only protection from the outside. The floor inside was only slightly drier than the street outside, multiple puddles formed where the roof didn’t cover. it was better than the street though. They were fine. The adrenaline was starting to wear off, pain and exhaustion forcing the girl to grab the wall for support. her lungs hurt, never seeming to be able to get enough air.

reaching into her pocket she was relieved to see only a few things had fallen out. This was enough for dinner at least.

“Red! I'm back!” she called into the dim room. the cracked windows let in just enough light that they could see even in the night. suddenly a bolt of numbed pain shot through her, the world seemed to blur. she managed to stay on her feet though, not without stumbling but it was better than falling. she touched her hand to the wound on her forehead, heart still racing.

looking at the hand when she lowered it again it was covered in crimson blood. 'Fuck. Red will not be happy about this.' she thought, still gripping onto the doorframe. Her brows furrowed.

Speaking of the devil the short reddish figure walked through the doorframe to the other room into the small empty room that more or less acted as just dead space. The holes in the wall and open space to the outside world made it even colder than the main room. Plus it was much too visible to outsiders. The short boy seemed to barely have registered the situation before frantically running to his sister's side.

His face was a mix of horror and confusion. She hated it, not only because of selfishness but also guilt. What choice did she have though? She looked away. "W- what happened?!" He exclaimed. Sure her coming home with open wounds wasn't uncommon but this was worse than usual. She thought of what to tell him to not make him worry. Or not worry as much at least. But she didn't have any more time. The world blurred together.

She didn't remember what happened next. There were yells. Her senses dulled and suddenly everything was encased in a dark nothingness.
