Work Text:
Eleven was sleeping over at Mike’s house. She was the only one awake.
Mike had fallen asleep quite some time ago, so she was left with her thoughts, in the dark of her boyfriend’s room.
“I love you. I’m sorry I don’t say it more it’s not because I’m scared of you. I-I’m not. I’ve never felt that way. Never. But I am scared that one day you’ll realize you don’t need me anymore. And I thought if I said how I felt it would somehow make that day hurt more.”
El was thinking over those words, her boyfriend had told her over and over. Mike had said he loved her.
It sounded cute and nice but there’s that one part that sticks to the back of Eleven’s mind.
What did Mike mean by ‘you don’t need me anymore’? He couldn’t have been more wrong. El thinks she’ll always need Mike.
Eleven has regretted many things in her life. One of them was yelling at Mike, before she got arrested.
More importantly the ‘No, you don’t understand’ part of when he had told her he knew what being bullied made you feel like.
He had been bullied for most of his life hadn’t he and the other original party members?
Mike had understood what bullying was.
Yet El had pushed him away and continued to lie to him.
And friends don’t lie.
Nor are partners supposed to.
She should apologize, Eleven thought to herself. It wasn’t fair to Mike. He had things going on too, it wasn’t always about her.
So El decided to apologize in the morning, so she kissed Mikes head. And soon had laid down next to him before knocking the fuck out immediately.

The next morning Eleven woke up in her boyfriend’s bed alone.
“Mike?” She said, although nobody was in the room.
El stretched a bit before she started looking around the house for Mike.
She found him downstairs helping his mother with breakfast.
His younger sister, Holly sat the table.
Mrs. Wheeler was cooking some more eggs and bacon with Mike helping to cook Pancakes and Eggos. p>
When Mike had noticed her he spoke, “Morning El.”
“Morning,” She yawned again before sitting down at a table chair.
Mike’s father soon had said good morning and a simple bye to his family before leaving for work. Which he may or may have not slammed the front door.
Whenever Mike and his mother finished preparing breakfast, he and El had set the table before the four began eating breakfast.
“Where’s Nancy? Is she not going to eat?” El asked.
“She left to who knows where with Steve, Robin, Jonathan, and Argyl.” Mike answered before he started eating his bacon.
Eleven hummed in response.

After breakfast Mike had suggested for El and him to go meet up with the rest of the party.
Eleven was going to agree to meet up with the others, before she had remembered what she was planning to say to Mike, the night prior.
“Before we go, we need to talk.”
Mike frowned at that, worried at what his girlfriend was going to say. She might be mad at him again, over something Max had told El again.
“Okay, what’s there to talk about?”
“Mike, do you remember the argument we had before I got arrested?”
He nodded thinking he knew where this was going.
“But it’s okay now, right? I said I love you. Which I still do.”
“It is, I just want to tell you I’m sorry.” Eleven went on, “When you said you knew what it was like to be bullied you were right. I was upset and tried pushing you away.”
Mike sighed out, thankful this wasn’t going to be another disagreement.
“It’s okay, El. I should’ve done something when Angela had started messing with you.”
“I should have told you,” she felt a bit of the weight fall off her shoulders. El had wanted to say sorry for being mean, unfair, and for lying to Mike.
“Maybe, but it’s difficult to talk about. But promise if anything happens when you leave to California you’ll tell me?” Mike hugged El.
“I promise,” she hugged her boyfriend back. “I love you.”
“Love you too.” /p> Eleven and Mike were loved by one another.
