Work Text:
The day was finally coming to a close,
and you couldn’t help the disappointed sigh that slipped through your lips at the revelation. Yet another Christmas Eve has passed and you couldn’t believe it was following the same events that had followed a year ago today. With the last of this evenings guests beginning to file out, closing out their Christmas tabs that had to have ruined their pockets, you also take foot in finishing up the evening count in both alcohol and shimmer sales.
As sad as it was, reality showed that shimmer addicts were still present even with the holiday setting in, however you were pleased nonetheless with how much the alcohol sales towered over that of shimmer. It was a Christmas miracle really.
With that, you clean up the earnings, depositing them safely into the metal box that was usually kept behind the bar. After making a quick trip upstairs into your boss’s quarters, you’d soon be on your way into the chilling breeze outside, back to your dingy one-bedroom apartment where you’d spend the rest of your Christmas Eve alone as per usual.
Making your way around the bar towards the stairs you chastise yourself for your rather ridiculous problem. You were much to old to be so upset over something such as Christmas Eve. You’ve spent the holidays alone now for over a decade, one may even argue from childhood. You gripped the staircase railing in thought. So why pray tell, we’re you so upset this year? You should be used to it, honestly you should be grateful that you were even closing this early. It was only around 11:45pm, on regular business days The Last Drop didn’t open until twelve in the morning.
You were so lost in your self-quarrel you hadn’t noticed that you had already made your way to Silco’s front door. Reaching for the handle, you were surprised to find the door already swinging away from you. Revealing your boss on the other side of the door.
You couldn’t stop the surprised little “Oh.” from dropping as you stood almost chest to chest with the Eye of Zaun. Quick to recover, you hold the box that had been tucked under your arm towards the man.
“I apologize sir, I wasn’t expecting you to be leaving. I’m just turning in today’s earnings.” You’re almost whispering as the atmosphere seemed to turn heavy.
With no response you finally try to make eye contact with Silco. Keyword: try. Silco’s eyes seemed to be preoccupied with something above you.
“Sir?” You ask confused.
Following his line of vision, your own vision also becomes overwhelmingly occupied at the sight of a small plant hanging from the door frame. At the sight of the gleaming, red berries and long leaves that adorned them you could have sworn you felt your soul leave your body.
“Ah. Is that…?” You questioned, keeping your eyes glued toward the ceiling.
“Mistletoe.” He stated, rather dumbly.
It seemed Silco had the same idea as you, keeping his bi-coloured eyes trained on the innocent plant as though looking away may set off a trap.
You don’t know how long you both stay there, sights never leaving the plant. There’s a atmosphere growing around both of you rather uncomfortably. Finally you ripped your gaze away from the plant, only to find Silco doing the same. His eyes firmly settling on you. You could feel your insides squirming under pressure, but you made no mistake in moving. His damaged eye seemed to flare in confidence that was almost burning you just by looking while his right seemed to implore you for some type of information. Maybe an explanation. Which you obviously did not have.
“We…we don’t have to.” You stated simply, you could already feel the rejection creeping up through your spine. It’s not like you wanted to kiss your boss…right?
The silence was heavy. You almost begin to formulate a plan of simply dropping the box and making a run for it, before you hear the oddly soft in tone voice of your boss.
“Do you want to?” He asks.
It was an easy question. A simple yes or a no would suffice. Yet your voice seemed to vanish as your mouth moved uselessly. You press you lips into a thin line. Looking up at Silco imploringly. Searching for something to say, however you were only met with more questions.
Silco’s good eye was lidded and relaxed, nothing like the usual demand the eye had instilled in you in the past. His posture was inviting, and you couldn’t help noticing the newfound heat that radiated off of him. It was all too much. A siren’s song would be less alluring.
Soon, his hands found your waist, causing you to become completely enveloped into his arms. You weren’t sure where that metal box had runoff to as you pressed your hands to his chest, as though it was the most natural thing. You didn’t care really. Before any of the alarms had any chance of ringing, before you could unearth any doubts or chastising of any sort, Silco closed the space between you once and for all.
Lips pressing hotly against your own, all the worry simply dissipated through your body, as your arms slid over the tall man’s shoulders and around his neck. You clung on like life-support as passion filled you senseless and Silco continued to kiss you as if he himself couldn’t stand the idea any longer.
Pulling away was by far the hardest challenge you’ve ever been faced with in your life. You caught your breath as he followed suit. Locking eyes once more, Silco’s arms tightened around you, only to connect lips once more, turning your bodies into his office as he dipped you. You let out a care-free giggle. The type you could only describe as childish. The type of giggle that felt ridiculous and bubbly.
As the door to Silco’s office closed, you could only be grateful. You wouldn’t have to spend another Christmas Eve alone.
