Work Text:
When Tsukishima proposed to Kageyama, he promised his setter that he would have the wedding of his dreams. They had talked about this before. They wanted something small, something simple, and something meaningful. It was going to be in a sectioned-off area in one of their favorite parks. They’d set it up in an elegant way with beautiful flowers and breathtaking decorations along the aisle. Tsukishima could already see it in his imagination, exactly what it would look like.
What he didn’t factor in were their self-appointed godparents. Once Suga and Oikawa got wind of their upcoming nuptials, the two crazy setters immediately got to work on planning everything. They coordinated with the florist, the event stylist, and even the tailor for their tuxedo measurements! It wasn’t long before they also started injecting their own opinions into the planning.
Don’t you think these baby breath flowers would look absolutely beautiful for the centerpieces?
What do you think about having a strawberry and vanilla filling for the cake?
Don’t get Tsukishima wrong, their ideas were great and everything, but their wedding was getting farther and farther from the initial vision the two of them had imagined together. But, Tsukishima could admit that having their help was infinitely better than managing everything themselves. Both he and Kageyama were busy with their jobs and just didn’t have the patience to deal with vendors and other suppliers. They didn’t have the time to call people to negotiate prices or ensure everything was done correctly. So they relied on their senpais instead.
The thing with relying on two very particular setters was that they wanted everything to be perfect. No creases allowed on the garments, no flyaway strands of hair, not a single stray leaf on any of the bouquets. So you can imagine how particular both self-appointed godparents were during the rehearsal dinner.
Suga glared at Hinata – the man of honor – when he started cracking jokes as he fidgeted in his place by the pretend altar. Oikawa tried in vain to flatten Yamaguchi’s – the best man – one strand of hair. They had everyone in the entourage practice walking down the aisle, making sure everyone took measured steps, in time with the music. They had everyone practice smiling at the camera, pausing for a demure pose, and taking their assigned seats.
‘Now remember,’ Suga insisted as he looked intensely at Tsukishima, ‘it’s one step, slight pause, two step, slight pause, three step, slight pause, fo-’
‘I get it,’ Tsukishima interrupted. ‘Thanks, Suga-san.’
‘You’re the groom, and all eyes will be on you.’ Suga continued, undeterred. ‘You have to take your time. So don’t walk too fast.’
Tsukishima nodded his head. They had already gone over this. He looked over to wear Oikawa was lecturing his fiancé.
‘You have to make sure you take slow, measured steps, Tobio-chan,’ Oikawa said. ‘Count with me…’
Tsukishima glanced at Kageyama who looked just as bored as he did. His eyes were glassy and his mouth did that slight little wobble that was a telltale sign of him repressing a yawn. Tsukishima chuckled as Oikawa berated him.
‘Are you even listening to me, Tobio-chan?? What did I just say?!’
Kageyama nodded violently. ‘Yes, Oikawa-senpai. I have to walk slowly.’
Oikawa sighed in exasperation. ‘Yes, but you have to count! Now, listen carefully…’

Today was the day. This was it. Months and months of planning all led up to this day. He hadn’t seen his fiancé since the night of the rehearsal dinner because their self-appointed godparents believed in silly traditions and wouldn’t let them sleep in the same room together. At this point, Tsukishima knew it was just easier to follow along than put up a fight. One thing he was looking forward to after the wedding? Not having to deal with the two setters anymore. He’d just be stuck with one setter – the one he chose.
He looked at his phone, hoping to see a text from his fiancé, but came up blank. He sighed.
‘What are you sighing about? It’s your wedding day, Tsukki!’ Yamaguchi exclaimed, entering the suite with Tsukishima’s newly ironed tux.
‘This is ridiculous! I don’t understand why I can’t see or talk to my fiancé!’
Yamaguchi patted his shoulder sympathetically. ‘It’s tradition to-’
‘But we don’t care about tradition!’
‘Okay, but if you don’t go along with this, Suga-san and Oikawa-san will have your head. They’re already stressed enough as it is today.’
‘But what if he’s panicking? What if he forgot how to tie his tie? What if he lost a shoe? Forgot to write his vows?’
‘Hinata is with him-’
Tsukishima snorted, ‘That’s not exactly reassuring.’
‘And Oikawa-san, Suga-san, and Akaashi-san,’ reminded Yamaguchi. ‘Those three will be sure to cover all the bases that Hinata won’t.’ He smirked at Tsukishima. ‘Admit it Tsukki, you’re not worried about his clothes. You just want to have your Kageyama-meter filled.’
Tsukishima grumbled but didn’t say anything.
‘Just a few minutes more Tsukki,’ Yamaguchi said soothingly as he helped Tsukishima put on his tux, ‘just a few more minutes until you see him.’
Tsukishima dropped his shoulders in resignation before he continued to don the rest of his clothes. After tying his shoelaces, he gave himself a once-over in the mirror.
Yamaguchi smiled approvingly. ‘You look good, Tsukki.’ He met Tsukishima’s eyes in the mirror. ‘You okay?’
Tsukishima nodded. ‘Yeah. Just a bit nervous.’
Yamaguchi laughed. ‘That’s perfectly normal. Everyone gets a bit nervous on their wedding day. Don’t you remember how I was shaking during mine?’
Tsukishima chuckled. ‘Because you were worried Hitoka was going to jilt you at the altar.’
Yamaguchi shrugged. ‘In my defense, I barely got any sleep the night before and I was operating on two energy drinks and three cups of coffee.’
Tsukishima shook his head. ‘Your poor, abused liver.’
‘Don’t worry about me, Tsukki. Today is your day. Yours and Kageyama’s. Everything will be perfect.’
‘Yeah because if it’s not, we’re going to have two very angry senpais.’
They both laughed as Tsukishima finished putting on the last touches to his look.

Everything was going perfectly. The sweet, melodic music that was playing as he walked down the aisle nearly made him tear up. He turned around and watched as some of their nearest friends followed after him. There was Yamaguchi his best man, his parents, Akiteru, Bokuto, Kuroo, and Lev as his groomsmen, paired with Suga, Akaashi, Kenma, and Oikawa as Kageyama’s groomsmen, Yachi as their flower girl, Kageyama’s parents, Miwa, and finally Hinata as the man of honor.
The music swelled as the curtains parted to reveal his fiancé. Kageyama was in a matching white tuxedo, holding a small bouquet of baby breath flowers in his hands. The moment their eyes locked, Tsukishima could see how Kageyama’s face lit up, and he couldn’t help the bright smile that was undoubtedly spreading across his face.
‘Kei!’ Kageyama said, loud enough to be heard all the way at the altar.
Then Kageyama was running. Running towards him. He was by Tsukishima’s side in seconds, flashing him a dazzling smile.
‘Sorry,’ Kageyama said, ‘couldn’t wait.’
Tsukishima ignored the muted chuckles of their guests. This was what he wanted. This was what this day was all about. Him and Tobio. Side by side, vowing to be there for each other forever.
He took Kageyama’s hand in his as he led him to the altar. ‘I missed you too.’
Behind them, they could hear the muffled wails of Suga and Oikawa. Only then did Kageyama seem to remember something. ‘Oh shit, they’re going to be so upset, aren’t they? Should I go back down and walk this time?’
Tsukishima laughed as he grabbed Kageyama’s other hand and turned him to face him. ‘Let them be upset, my King. Today is our day and I wouldn’t have wanted you any other way.’
