Roadhog thinks he is a bad person and anyone around him is bound to be hurt, and he wants junkrat to leave when he has the chance

Notes:

This is just a little angst as a treat, not super sad. Roadhog is in his feels and junkrat just wants to help.

Special shout out to my friends that encourage me to write angst, this is their fault lol

Work Text:

Junkrat had known Roadhog for many years, and over that time they've become extremely close. Though when they first met their relationship was purely business, Hog was his bodyguard, but eventually they become friends, and then lastly something more. While they had never labeled their relationship status, Junkrat didn't think friends cuddled and kissed each other.

They could read each other well, always knowing what was on the other's mind, so when Roadhog became even more distant Junkrat grew concerned. Sure, Roadhog was naturally distant, but this was different. The way Hog carried himself, how he spoke, everything. He planned on getting to the bottom of it, he isn't happy unless Hog was happy. No amount of explosive chaos could change that.

Junkrat had first just asked what was on the other's mind; he was met with a dismissive wave and being told to leave him alone, which wasn't new. Roadhog valued his alone time after all, but after being constantly pushed away, being told to go do something else and just leave him alone he knew he had to do something and soon. Hog had just seemed so sad, staring absentmindedly at what was in front of him, as if he was just spectating, or just so lost in his own head.

When Junkrat found Hog just seated on the couch silently he decided this ended now, going to Hogs side he sat with him, leaning on him.

“Hoggie, ye gotta tell me what's wrong.”

Hog startled slightly when Junkrat leaned on him, but relaxed just as quickly. He looked down to Rat, his brows furrowed slightly.

“None of yer-” he started, but junkrat quickly cut him off.

“Enough of that, you been saying it's none of my business for weeks now. I just wanna know what's wrong, mate.” Junkrat had a soldering tone in his voice, he was tired of Roadhog dismissing his concerns, when he only had pure intentions.

Roadhog stared at him, annoyed by the junkers persistence. Though he didn't respond, just meeting his pleading gaze with a cold stare.

“ ‘m not leaving until you tell me, hoggie.”

That was an easy enough fix in Roadhog's eyes, he got up and just started to walk away, planning on just brooding in his feelings the next room over. Junkrat jumped up onto his feet when the other stood up.

“Wait, that wasn't an invitation for ye to leave!” he said quickly grabbing onto his large wrist to stop him. Roadhog shook him off, sending Junkrat softly down to the floor with a thud. Junkrat whined loudly looking up to roadhog, who was still walking away.
“Why do you keep leaving me out!” he yelled, his voice laced with a hint of desperation.

He just wanted to help Roadhog to stop shutting the world out. It made him feel like there was a wall between them, and he knew, deep down, that was probably Hogs goal. Hoping Rat would give up, unfortunately junkrat never knew when to give up. Never.

“Will you shut up?” Roadhog responded with, his voice deep in his chest, gravely. He would never understand why Junkrat was so persistent.

Junkrat stood to his feet and hobbled over to the large man and looked up at him. Junkrat pursed his thin lips, eyes dancing between looking at all of hog, his tattoos, all of the little details in his skin, just to avoid the man's cold stare. It always made him feel put on the spot.He would always feel his mind suddenly run void of all thoughts when Hog looked at him so coldly.

“I just wanna know why you've been so distant, I miss you.” junkrat, his voice is concerningly small for someone with such an explosive and loud personality.

“You'd be better saving those feelings for someone else.” the large junker responded with, his voice a bit more gentle this time, but no one other than rat would notice the change. But that was okay, no one else needed to notice the change besides Rat.

“Now what is that supposed to mean?” he really didn't know what roadhog was trying to say. Who else should he worry for? In his world, Roadhog was the most important person, no one else mattered to him like his partner in crime.

“It means that I don't want you to worry about a big lug like me, not worth your time.” His voice had some bite, and edge he didnt mean for it to have.

“Now that's just stupid, mate. Yer always gonna be worth my time.” Junkrat replied, sounding slightly wounded by his partner's words.

Roadhog felt a pang of guilt, knowing he had hurt him slightly. Though from his perspective, it would save him a world of hurt later on. “Everything gets ruined sooner or later with me around, don't want you getting hurt.”

Junkrat was stopped in his tracks at that, through Rats eyes not being around Hog was a nightmare, worse than any other type of hurt. What would he do without the other? With no one to remind him of the things he forgot, to tend to his wounds when he was hurt. No one was willing to do that for him. Who would be crazy enough to deal with an explosive pyromaniac. He couldn't form a complete thought, yet his mind was still racing.

“You don't want me around anymore?” was all Junkrat could say, it was all he could get from hogs statement. Hurt wouldn't even begin to describe what he was feeling. He looked up to Hog, trying to read his expression, for any clue of what Hog wanted.

“I don't want you getting hurt.” Roadhog said again, because he didn't want to leave. He wanted to stay with Rat. He wanted a future, and in a perfect world Rat would be in it, but he knew this world wasn't perfect.

Junkrat shifted, uneasy. He felt a strange twist in his gut, something he couldn't identify. It made it even harder to think.

“Mate, you're worth all the hurt.” His voice was uneasy, wavering as he spoke. His mouth felt dry, like he was still spending hours upon hours under the brutal australian sun. He fiddled with his own hands trying to collect himself. “Not gonna leave you behind.”

“I'm a monster.” Roadhog gruffed out. He was responsible for putting so much hurt in the world, and while he knew he was damned to a life of crime, maybe, just maybe he could prevent one of the few people he had cared about from suffering more. It might be worth it then.

“Wha- now when did you get that idea in yer head!?” Junkrat grabbed one of Hogs large hands and held it gently. Craving the warmth of his touch. It reassured him, even if in the moment roadhog was the one making him unsure.

Roadhog didn't try to pull away from his touch this time, and he looked away from Junkrat, he could stand to look at him right now. “ S’ for the best.”

“Now that's just nonsense, we're a duo, mate! Things are always better when it's Junkrat and roadhog. Whatd i do without my bodyguard?” junkrat spoke lightly, in a failed attempt to lighten the mood. He just wanted Hog to feel better so they could get back to their old shenanigans, robbing banks and blowing up whatever they pleased. Moments like this, when things felt all so real? It was hard for both of them to be vulnerable, in the out back it was a dog eat dog world, and feelings were seen as a weakness. The weak died in a place like that.

“You’d be safer. People get hurt with me.” Hog still wasn't looking at Rat, though he gently squeezed his hand, “you've been hurt enough.”

Junkrat frowned and reached his metal hand out slowly before gently cupping Roadhog's face, he turned his face so they were eye to eye. “It's not your fault people get hurt, sometimes… sometimes people just get hurt, ain't nothing you can do about it.”

The large junkers' eyes flicked away from the others, looking to the floor. He couldn't find what he wanted to say, so he just kept quiet. Though he did lean into the others' touch just slightly.

“Besides, even if I get hurt around you, you'll always patch me up. I need ya around, even if ya think i don't.”

Junkrat gave a smile, his thumb rubbing the others cheek when his hand was leaned into.
Hog huffed a little, he wished the other wasn't so good at persuading him. He wished a lot of things, he wished his home wasn't a legitimate biohazard, that so many people he had cared about hadn't died, that things went back to normal before the omnium, that he could keep everyone he wanted safe. Though he knew that it was too late, and now he was just wishing Rat to leave him behind. Even if he didnt want it. That Rat wasn't the brightest, but damn could he be the voice of reason sometimes, even if he wasn't trying reason at all.

“Ya mean so much to me, couldn't get rid of me even if ya wanted, Hoggie.”

Hog gruffed a little and gave a singular nod, “yeah.” He tried to turn away from the other when he felt his face start to heat up.

Junkrat laughed softly when he saw it, “Are ya blushing?” he asked, pulling the others face to meet his own, smushing his face into Hogs cheek giving him a smooch.

Gently pushing away Junkrat he huffed, denying that he was, in fact, blushing. He felt his chest flutter a little. No one had ever made him feel like this before, no one had made him feel special, that he was more than a cold hearted killer. He knew Junkrat felt the same. They were both out casts. They saw a killer and an explosive maniac, and while both of those were true, they were surface level observations. the two of them looked past that. They had looked deeper and found people, and those people were named Jamison Fawkes and Mako Rutledge. Even if no one else cared, they had each other, and in a cruel world sometimes that's all you need. It wasn't much, but what more could you want with a relationship like this.

Mako turned back to Jamison and and his beefy hand through his thinning hair before slowly pulling him in, placing a tender kiss on his lips. The gentleness in the touch makes Jamisons stomach flip flop. He eagerly kissed back, it was sloppy, but Mako and learned to love his partner's poor kissing skills. It just added personality.

“I love ya, Mako…” Jamison said sweetly.

“Mm, love you.” Mako responded with, before snaking his large arms around him pulling him into a gentle embrace.
