Chapter Text

As a kindergarten teacher, Yeonjun knows it's not good for him to drown his sorrow in alcohol but tonight was special. A few hours ago he had went on a blind date with a man, average, and that's all he could think of to describe him. He is a very average individual, nothing special about him, up until the evening walk. A gush of April breeze went past them, making the man’s wig flies off his head. Full of humiliation, he apologizes and rejects Yeonjun in a hurry. Trying to cover his bald head, he left Yeonjun on a gloomy night all alone once again as always. Yeonjun, desperately needed a way to relieve his anger and suffering, came across a small bar. He went in and order a few drinks from the bartender and started small talk with the bartender. A few drinks turn into an excessive amount of drinks. A small talk with the bartender turns into a huge rant to the bartender. “Then suddenly a hairy rag came flying off his head! And it was his wig! And you know what! I'm not even mad that he is bald, I'm mad that he lied to me the whole time and left me all alone by myself. Him and I could’ve had a chance. I kinda like him too.”Yeonjun complains before chugging down another glass of whiskey. “Yes yes, you told me that three times already, I'm sorry you had such a hard night but it's near closing time.” The bartender huff out a breath when he had kick him out of the bar. A late-night drunk walk doesn't sound too bad, so Yeonjun decides to do just that not wanting to go home alone just yet. “Every men and women always look down on me! I don't need no men, they're all assholes!” he yells out. At the corner of his glassy eye, he saw a white cat laying on a staircase, connected down to a bakery. Yeonjun sloppily walked toward the staircase. Before the tip of his shoes could even touches the first step, his body falls toward the bakery. looks like even his body also can't stand him and it had given up.

Yeonjun had woken up from his dreamless sleep, a pain pounding from his head and a pain striking him at his back. He forces himself up and gets a glass of water, chugging it down like he never had. Today was a Saturday so he didn't have to work which he was thankful for. Sitting on the toilet, he try to recall yesterday. “what did I even do yesterday night? I'm pretty sure I had fallen down the stairs, but how did I make it home?! Whatever”he sighs before getting up and entering the bathtub. Yeonjun enjoys taking a shower. He could’ve became a famous author if he used his shower thoughts and story plots if he could remember them that is.

Yeonjun had decide the throbbing pain on his back was too unbearable to leave it as is. Getting ready to go visit the hospital he had on a black-and-white stripe sweater tucked in only in the front. A pair of light blue jeans and black converse that complement his long legs. Lastly, a black headband to add the cherry on top. Yeonjun’s fashion skill is way out of its league for a kindergarten teacher, well at least that's what his co-worker told him. Not wanting to take the chances into bumping into any familiar faces, Yeonjun had avoided his regular hospital and took a 27-minute walk to another hospital, which was ridiculous “Oh look it's Choi Yeonjun, that single virgin who had no life and no money! What is he doing here?! I bet he probably got dumped by a guy during his blind date, got wasted, and injured himself!” Just thinking about those nasty gossip makes his head hurt even more than it already is. Before Yeonjun enters the small hospital he took out his sunglasses to hide his face just in case. He walks over to the nurse who’s reading at the counter. The old lady looks up from her book and asks him if he is a new patient. Yeonjun answered yes, fill in some paperwork and walk over to the seating area, and waited.

Footsteps could be heard from Yeonjun’s converse. The nurse lady told him to go find room 553 that's down the hallway. Yeonjun scans his eye from left to right quickly, his foot trying to catch up. Eventually, he found the room. As he enters, a man, looking like same age, turns around in his office chair to face him. He was wearing a white coat with a white shirt underneath, and a name tag hanging from his neck. His blonde hair and black glasses makes him just Yeonjun’s type. With his heart beating quick, Yeonjun quickly turn his back to the doctor, open his mouth, but only a squeak had came out. Turning back to the doctor as if nothing happened. The doctor widen his eye in confusion, tilting his head a bit. He gestures for Yeonjun to take a seat in front of him. With an awkward smile, the doctor asks Yeonjun the purpose of his visit. “He is so cute!” Yeonjun thought before answering him. “Nothing really, it's just that my back has been hurting since this morning.” Yeonjun smiled. The doctor nodded and did some scans on him. Yeonjun took a sneak peek at his ID card. “His name is Choi Soobin, 22 years old, one year younger than me. I wonder if he is single. There you go again Yeonjun, crushing on the guy you just met. When are you going to change?” Yeonjun bit the bottom of his lip to block himself from thinking any further. “Fortunately it isn't some serious injury so you should be fine in a week. Just come back here tomorrow again for a final check.” Soobin said. Yeonjun snapping back from reality thanked Soobin. “O-oh thank you so much, Mr. Ummm-“ “Choi Soobin” Soobin answered back. “call me Soobin.” Yeonjun nodded with a smile and walk back to the nurse lady at the counter, handing her the paper, and left. Excited to be back tomorrow, all Yeonjun could think about is Soobin. Even though Yeonjun knew nothing about Soobin he feels like he might have a chance this time. Maybe go on a cute date together, make the most delicious food just for Soobin, and buy him the prettiest jewelry, if he could even afford it. Of course, they're just one of those scenarios Yeonjun thought about, listening to love songs made with the right vibe. Love is a weird thing to Yeonjun. He doesn't know much about it, it could happen anywhere anytime to anyone. But yet it feels wonderful. It‘s like when a lover’s cameras picture that focus only on you and no one else in the crowd. That one little green sapling you found after a rainy day, while the rest are covered in mud being stepped on. Love has always been underestimated, if not then why would parents fight all the time, making their children turn to love as a coping mechanism? The cycle repeats every single day,Yeonjun had seen it all.

Getting up was always a hard thing to do for Yeonjun and most normal people. He would sit in his bed for hours straight just for him to end up sleeping again. Today was different, as soon as the alarm went off Yeonjun sat straight up and off his bed to get ready. While changing, he did doze off for a long time, making him behind his schedule. The weather wasn't too cold or hot, the perfect weather to make friends and make a future partner. Yeonjun stepped into a bakery, the same bakery he saw a few nights ago. Yeonjun was hungry, he doesn't want his stomach to make noises when he is trying to get Soobin’s number, that would be embarrassing. As soon as he had stepped in, there he saw the blonde hair doctor hugging a short hair girl with a white headband on her head. Shocked, Yeonjun quickly turn around so they couldn't catch a glimpse of his face. In front of him was a basket of fish buns, so he decided it would be his breakfast today.

He caught a glimpse of dark hair in his favorite bakery section, red bean fish buns. It is not normal for Soobin to socialize with random strangers but something tells him to do it, plus how could anyone who likes fish bun be bad, right? Soobin let go of his sister, Arin. She pats him on the back before going back to work. Soobin walks over, grabs a paper bag, and stuffs them with fish buns. Before Soobin could spark up a conversation, he caught the man himself staring at him. His pretty lip parted like he has something to say to him, only his front tooth peeking out of his lip. They held eye contact for eternity. Soobin could see himself in the man’s eye. The man who started the eye contact ended it too. Covering his face with embarrassment, his ears started to turn red. “Yeonjun?!” Soobin said trying to hold back a laugh.

Yeonjun peaks through the crack of his finger, seeing Soobin smiling at him,Yeonjun uncovers his face. What if he thinks I'm a stalker now, Why is he laughing at me, what's so amusing with me also, did he just remember me? HE KNOWS MY NAME! Growing up,Yeonjun always find himself running away from his problem so much so that it had become a habit. Drinking is one way, straight-up fleeing away was the other, and right now Yeonjun feels the need to run away. But before he could, Soobin grabbed his hand gently, making him put down his thought of running. “Would you like to go together?” Soobin smiled at him again, this time brighter than any smile Yeonjun had seen in his 23 years on earth. Their eye was the shape of a crescent moon, dimple on the side of his cheek. Inside Yeonjun’s mind was just internally panicking. “Uh” was all Yeonjun could bluff out. “You have an appointment with me today anyway, plus we’re going the same way anyways, right?”

———————༒꧁𖦹☔︎︎𖦹꧂༒—————

Surprisingly the walk wasn't as awkward as Yeonjun thought it might be.

“Oh, you're a kindergarten teacher! It must have been hard then.”

“ Nope, not at all I enjoy playing with kids. It not just crying to be heard but also laughter, they're all truly cute. You should visit sometime.”

“yeah, maybe I should.”

“umm I know it's too personal, but I saw you hugging the woman back at the bakery and I was wondering who that person is to you.”

“ Oh! Arin, she's simply my sister and the owner of the bakery.”

“So she is not your girlfriend?”

“Nope, I am interested in men. Though I probably shouldn't be telling you this but, I trust you.”

Soobin knows that too much information for one conversation, but he wants Yeonjun to get the hint. Is this what people call love at first sight? He never really believe how someone could fall in love in the first few minutes they met, and now Yeonjun, his first love had changed it. Sadly it looks like Yeonjun didn't get the hint. They both spend their time getting to know each other but mainly Soobin was the one talking and Yeonjun quietly listens.

Yeonjun had planned on getting Soobin’s number but it didn't happen. Yeonjun had missed his chance, and now he had no excuse to go see Soobin again. With a problem Yeonjun can’t solve, he turns to his friends for advice. They all had the plan to meet up after work tomorrow anyway, he could just wait and bother his friends with it. Yeonjun thought about how to explain this sticky situation to his friends. If he told Beomgyu first he probably make fun of him at first but get really into it later. Taehyun on the other hand is clever but not as clever as Beomgyu when it comes to love advice. The best choice is certainly Beomgyu.

“ Hey Hey over here! Yeonjun here!” Both Beomgyu and Taehyun had arrived at the cafe before Yeonjun. He speed walks over, trying not to gain people’s awareness. “That was so embarrassing, why would you do that?!” Yeonjun sat down next to Taehyun, across from Beomgyu. “Why not, it's the best way for you to find us.” Beomgyu cheekily smiled at him.Yeonjun frown back at him.

“Why did you call us here today anyway?”

“I met this guy a few days ago-

“Oop here we go again”

“Hey let me finish, I am being for real this time.”

“Sure like you haven't said they like thousands of times already”

“Be quiet, I'm talking”
“So a few days ago I was drinking late at night, walking home, and I slipped down a staircase. I woke up at home somehow and my back was aching. I don't want anyone I know to see me at the hospital, so I went to a small hospital pretty far from home. I met this really cute guy named Choi Soobin.”

“ Woah same last name as the both of you”

“He was the doctor that examined me. He told me to come back yesterday for a final check-up. Yesterday I went to a bakery and saw him. He invited me to walk with him to the hospital since we are going the same way anyway. We talk about stuff, and I miss the chance of asking for his number.”

“Wait what did you guys talk about?”

“Oh, it wasn't anything important. He just told me how the bakery owner was his sister, stuff like that.”

“Okay, then what do you want us to help you with?”

“Find me an excuse to see him again.”

——————༒꧁𖦹☔︎︎𖦹꧂༒———————

Yeonjun went home exhausted, but he was happy. He, Taehyun, and Beomgyu had made up excuses for him to see Soobin again.
They planned for him to go visit his sister’s bakery and if lucky, possibly he could see Soobin there like the other day.
Yeonjun attempt to try and find Soobin at the bakery was a massive failure. Yeonjun went there almost every day for 5 months now, but he was never there, so he had given up on the hopes of getting Soobin’s number. He even tried looking Soobin up, but nothing came. He ask the nurses there, told him they can’t give out information like that. Yeonjun is prepared for this situation, and that's why he had a backup plan. The one he didn't want to use but anything for love.
Late at night, Yeonjun was back at the bakery stairs, determined. His last plan was to injure himself and go see Soobin for help, and he did. Without hesitation, he jump off and tumble down the stairs. “This should get me there.”Yeonjun chuckled. With a whine, he picks himself up and walks home.
Yeonjun woke up with pain aching throughout his whole body.
Yeonjun you crazy bitch. Doing this much for a guy? You still got shit to do.
With any movement he did, his pain gets stronger. Before leaving for the hospital, Yeonjun messages himself with the word “bye-bye” and left.

Sadly he wasn't able to see Soobin. It was an old man that treat him this time. He sadly sighs, pushing the hospital door open to go home. It was around 7 pm by the time it ended, normally it wouldn't take so long but it was a busy day for the hospital plus the old man did work slowly. Yeonjun waited nearly two and a half hours in the waiting room. Three hours for the visit to finish. Yeonjun did wake up late in the afternoon so he wasted his whole day just to not end up seeing Soobin. He feels truly disappointed. He thought he could maybe finally have Soobin's number after multiple attempts. Outside he saw Beomgyu and Taehyun. “you worried us! Why did you send us a text and not answer us the whole day?!” Taehyun said while Beomgyu busily check to make sure he was okay. “I made myself fall down the staircase to see Soobin, but I didn't even see him.” Yeonjun never cry over some guy he don't know much about. But now, with his tear threatening to seep out of his eye, he cries to his friends about how much effort he put into everything just for it to go down the drain again.

“Come on, I promise you there are still thousands of guys out there perfect for you.”

“You said that to me last time too, stop lying. I hate liars.”

“You could still try again, it's only been 5 month. Let's go get some ice cream to cheer you up, alright?”

Come on Yeonjun what's wrong with you these days, you've been through this loads of time suck it up, buddy.

“Can you guys stay with me tonight? I don't want to be alone.”

On their way back there were just silent. Nothing to say or think, just the sound of footsteps. It was better for Yeonjun to let Soobin go anyway. If they were meant to be together, maybe he would have seen Soobin weeks ago. Yeonjun then suddenly stop, they were in front of the staircase again. “You must have made lots of memory with this stair, haven't you?” Taehyun spoke out. Beomgyu notices them stopping and stops walking too. “Do you want to let out your feeling? It's not good to keep it all up. Maybe practice confessing to that stair, that could help.” Beomgyu gently rub Yeonjun’s back to comfort.
“Sure why not, worth a try.” Yeonjun huffed out, taking a few steps closer to the stairs.

“Oh! Yeonjun -sii left his phone here.”

“Yeonjun? My shift is over, I can take it to him. I'm sure he didn't walk far.”

“Really! Thank you Soobin!”

Soobin put on his coat and started to jog in the direction the nurse point out.
I didn't know Yeonjun came in today. Why did he come here anyway? Is he hurt again? I hope he’s okay.
The more Soobin jogged the more he thinks about Yeonjun, that's until he saw silhouettes standing in front of his sister's bakery stairs.
“CHOI SOOBIN I LIKE YOU!” Yeonjun cried out. Beomgyu yells back at Yeonjun to ensure him he's doing well. “Yup just like that, continue!”

“PLEASE GO ON A DATE WITH ME!”

“It would be my pleasure”

“Hmm? Beomgyu don't pretend to be Soobin right now.”
