3 Doors down

Summary:

What happens when Bellatrix and Hermione are thrown into the veil together?

Chapter Text

Bang!

“Come out, come out wherever you are, Muddy.” Bellatrix Lestrange stalks her way into the death room. Surely the rest of those idiots will be there soon.

Where in the blast-ended skrewt is the little rat? It’s not like there are many places to hide in here.

“Diffindo!” A strong, yet young, voice calls out in the room. Bellatrix easily deflects the spell away from her.

A snarl forms on the Death Eater’s face. Out from behind a stone wall comes a girl, the Mudblood that Bellatrix is so keen to dig her teeth into. The Mudblood’s posture exudes confidence, but Bellatrix can smell the fear rolling off of the filth. The fear only amps up her predatory instincts and results in a low growl erupting from her throat.
At that moment, the rest of the Death Eaters and Dumbledore’s Army show up, all looking tired, but ready to fight.

“Hermione!” A red-headed boy moves to his friend, but Bellatrix is faster. A quick Knockback Jinx and the boy is our cold. Pathetic. A waste of pure blood.

“Anybody moves or interferes with me and the Mudblood will pay dearly. I want to duel her properly to see if she really is the brightest witch of her age.”

Her head snaps back to the girl in front of her, a grin stretched across her face. “Well? Go on. Aren’t you going to bow down to me, Muddy?” Bellatrix looks expectantly at the girl, who doesn’t move an inch.

The dark witch can see the defiant look in the younger’s eye. “Have it your way then. Confringo!” The spell flies toward the girl with speed and power.

“Protego!” The curse breaks Hermione’s shield, making the girl falter backward. Another curse, but the girl dodges it.

The surrounding bystanders, frozen, watch the battle between the two women. Spells shot across the room hitting wherever they land. Both sides of spectators have to throw up a shield or two to avoid being hit with flying debris.

Once Hermione manages to find a rhythm, the duel looks like a dance between good and evil. They both move around the area in front of the veil as some curses are lost inside the wisps of death.

Bellatrix can see that the Mudblood in front of her is losing stamina. A few more curses and the girl will be hers. Bellatrix shoots a well-aimed Binding Curse when the girl gives her an opening. Hermione falls flat on her face just a foot away from the veil.

The dark witch smirks and stalks over to Hermione’s stiff form. She crouches down and rubs the back of her hand against Hermione’s cheek. “I say you put up a pretty pathetic fight, Muddy. Imperio.” Watching blissfully as the filth’s eyes gloss over in front of her. Bellatrix lifts the Binding Curse and bids Hermione to give her a hug.

“There, there, Muddy. You’re much safer with me than those idiots.” Bellatrix begins stroking the back of her head, then pushes her away and onto the ground closer to the veil.

“Stop it, Lestrange. You’ve won! Now leave her alone!” She looks over at the voice. Of course, it is the self-righteous boy-who-lived.

“You’re right; I won, you stupid boy. I’m claiming my prize right now, but who’s to say I have any use for her. After all, she’s no better than the mud under my shoes. She should have less rights than a House-Elf.” The dark witch knows this will egg on Scar-face. Bellatrix points her wand at Hermione’s neck. “Do you want me to rid you of this cruel world, Muddy-kins? Hmm?”

Hermione replies lazily. “Yes, Mistress Black.” Bellatrix starts the Killing Curse. The wind is knocked out of the Death Eater’s lungs, violently thrusted back by a red spell into the thin white veil behind her, dragging Hermione with. If she is going to die, she will take Potter’s most valuable asset with her.
